Within hours of the announcement, for example, Nissan Middle East sent a tweet which read: "#Petrol prices are set to rise in the #UAE? No problem! Drive the all new #Hybrid #Pathfinder."But despite being cheaper to run over time, many electric and hybrid cars come with a higher price tag than their fully combustion-engine counterparts. Some small versions currently available in the UAE have a starting price of Dh76,000.

Are you guys seriosuly thinking for alternate options? Any first hand experience here with Electric or Hybrid vehicles?

Electric cars are a great option for many people in countries around the world not just because they are better for the environment, but because they can save their owners a fair amount of money. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, earlier this year electric cars on average cost $3.74 to travel 100 miles, as opposed to $13.36 for conventional cars. Those savings are quite considerable in the long-run but only if the user has easy and regular access to charge points, otherwise they won’t get many miles for their dollar at all. They’ll get zero, because the car would run out of battery charge halfway along the Abu Dhabi Highway and leave its owner stranded.

May be all we need is little push toward new technology and then realize how cool these new electric cars can be.

I was reading few days back on fb that tesla launched new electric car that is capable of doing 0-100 in 3 seconds, I mean when we first hear about electric cars we used to cry and crib about it's speed, then mileage per recharge and now price. This is never end crib, unless we learn to accept and move on.

A  fastest accelerating electric vehicle in the world was recently released by a group of German students. The car was clocked from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 1.779 seconds!!!; the previous record stood at 1.785 seconds. It only had a 134 hp electric motor to do the job, drawing juice from a 6.62 kWh battery pack.

I think we still have a chance to grow our fuels like many other countries .... Yes BioFuel like E85 & E60 which is 85% and 60% Ethanol respectively and the remain percentage is unleaded gasoline.

These biofuels are higher in octane and lower CO emission. and after all the early automotive industry was using Alcohol as fuel and was diverted to petrol later.

And many countries are growing fuel crops with sea water and sewerage water which maximize the benefits of recycling that waste water into fuel.

and most of manufacturers modified produced cars to run with biofuel and badged "flex fuel or bio" even conversion kits available and suitable lubricants also available.
