Should high speed cars have governor by default?

Just read this shocking news that in Sharjah alone more than 1200 motorists clocked above 200 km/h speed in 9 months, so imagine this count for all UAE must be more than 10,000 at least a year.

Fining 2000 AED, or giving black points is meaningless if someone life is gone because of these adrenaline junkies.

The top most street legal speed in UAE is 120-140 km/h:

  1. So how about all car comes with speed governor (limiter) installed and set at 160 km/h by default.
  2. Speed governor should be installed in all drivers under the age of 25 years.
  3. Speed governor should be installed after the first high speed radar violation recorded.
  4. Speed governor installing will get 50% discount on insurance or vice versa (pay more if no governor).

If you like to drive at high speed in autodrome or yas circuit then get cops permission to disable governor for that one day and enjoy your car at high speed w/o risking the other people lives.

What other options you guys think will discourage such abuse of public roads in UAE......?

Do you know almost all modern cars have speed limiter and rev limiter installed from factory. That is other thing that they are set at 250 km/h or above for suiting autobahn driving and not UAE road limits.

I agree to first two suggestions, but point 3 is useless as people doing these high speeds are clever enough to know the fixed radar locations. Point 4 is again useless, as couple of thousand dirham discount or overcharge for insurance premium will not deter this crime from filthy rich boyz.

Points well noted, but today I saw a Land Cruiser on the Sharjah-Dubai highway. From standstill to maximum 30 km/h was the scenario and that guy was swerving from one lane to another at times missing the other cars by a very small margin. How can you restrict that.

It is not about putting restrictions, its about inculcating courtesy and common sense in the drivers.

Its a matter of habit and although habits are hard to change, specially bad ones and takes time to change the driving culture in any place, but proper education, plus some punishment like serving those people who were effected in car accidents should be taken care of for a month or so by these rash drivers. Let them see and exchange stories of the evils that haunt those who disobeyed laws and thought they were in control of every situation because they managed to escape a couple of close shaves.

Today its only fines and black points, and confestication of vehicles which can be released if you pay a higher fine.

Today you can get rid of some of your black points by buying white points.

Today those effected by accidents are taken care of by nurses appointed by government hospitals and paid by the sale of number plates in Dubai.

Where are the kind of punishments that will educate these people to understand what we can see now, here on this forum?

Education and patience is the key, and punishment that will educate, not the current fine structure.

Just my 2 fils.
