Jabal Jais on Islamic New Year - 21 September 2017

Recommended Posts

The Islamic New Year is supposed to be falling on Thursday, 21 September, so lets take advantage. Plus with the weather getting better it will be only cooler on top.

The RAK mountain range which always are few degrees lesser than the other areas. Get ready to enjoy some of best snaky curved road making up to the to this grand Hajar mountain range. With last time's experience we can reach close to the top to enjoy the view from both sides of the mountain and enjoy the sea view. This drive will offer plenty of photo opportunity for the shutterbugs, so make sure to carry your best camera and long range lens.

Plan is to start late afternoon and finish whenever we feel we have had enough to escape the heat and yet have our holiday dose of fun and adrenaline. With this timing we will also eliminate the usual rush at this newly developing tourist site. So please be on time, as we are really pressed on time so if you are late then you have to catch up by yourself.

If anybody would like to bring along snacks, drinks, BBQ, playing cards, music box or any means of entertainment and fun is most welcome to join.

What can I say? Late for my own trip and now late to come out with the trip report. Bad habits are very easy to fall in to and very difficult to get out of.

To continue my heartfelt thanks to Gaurav Bhai, Basit Bhai and Saleem and their families for the patience. Reaching the top of Jabal Jais we saw a lot of changes and the number of people wanting to enjoy cooler weather on top, I had a chance to play a game with my family to guess what the weather would be on top. At the base of Jabal Jais the temperature was 39 degree, my guess was 34 degree, my sister in law was the winner with 31 degrees. That was a whole 8 degree cooler. that is amazing. Gaurav bhai's watch showed 24 degree when we finally left at 11 pm.

I would like to thank Basit for helping me with the BBQ, mother's are a blessing and the masala she used to marinate the chicken for BBQ has always gained praise from everyone. Sohini bhabhi also got loads of vege-burgers which were delicious and filling. The best aspect of this outing was loads of time to relax and sit around to enjoy the weather and chat.

I would like to thank 1 and all for the patience and an amazing time which my family thoroughly enjoyed.

After a super exciting fun intermediate drive I would like to propose a relaxed night drive for all level of drivers to enjoy. It's time to self-drive your 4X4 to venture through the desert safely with offroad experts. Its time to enjoy an evening drive and in fresh sand dunes to challenge your senses and 4x4, with the best offroad enthusiasts in UAE.
As the summer has arrived we will be having night drives now, so let's thrill all your senses. This drive will also enable us to gear up and learn important aspects of desert driving in the nights, as it would be easier for newbies to join in night drives after this nicely paced drive.

Get ready for real mountain exploration drive, without the tarmac road and still reach some awesome viewpoint on top of Hatta Mountain range that span from Hatta Dam to Wadi Shawka. I have done this route almost 10 years ago and just found the old waypoints for entry and exits. If they are still accessible then we are in for a great surprise as drive up to the top will test your mountain climbing skills, 4x4 handling, low gear power, braking and starting on a steep incline with slipping stones and sweaty palms.
Plan to start from Al Munay area on Sharjah-Kalba road and detour towards Qur and then start climbing up and reach to the top and have some amazing views of UAE on one side and Oman on another side. We plan to end the descend near Buraq dam and visit that place if water still there.
I also have plan B and C, in case if an above plan fails and that's why I'm calling it an exploration drive.
      When: 14 Dec 2018
Meeting time: 1:00 PM, a convoy will move sharply at 01:15 PM
      Where: Al Munay's Mosque
      GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/sUpbcCpQo492
Level of a drive: Fewbie - Intermediate  All level
Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance

Jabal Jais, is a mountain on the border between Oman and United Arab Emirates, with an elevation of 1,911 m (6,268 feet). The highest point of this mount is located on the Omani side, but a secondary hill (in the same mountain) west of this peak is considered the highest point of the United Arab Emirates, at 1,892 m (6,207 feet) above sea level. With forecast of rising temperature (35 degree) and to start the UAE summer chapter, we plan to look for morning drives now. And what better place to start other than the RAK mountain range which always are few degrees lesser than the other areas. Get ready to enjoy some of best snaky curved road making up to the to this grand Hajar mountain range. If current ongoing roadwork on top permit, we might make it to the top to enjoy the view from both sides of the mountain and enjoy the sea view. This drive will offer plenty of photo opportunity for the shutterbugs, so make sure to carry your best camera and long range lens.
Plan is to start early and finish early to escape the heat and yet have our Friday dose of fun and adrenaline. With this timing we will also eliminate the usual rush at this newly developing tourist site. So please be on time, as we are really pressed on time so if you are late then you have to catch up by yourself. We plan to come down before the Friday prayer timing so that people can pray in neighboring mosque below.

As the weather is getting better, let's have an easy fewbie level drive from Lisalli fort to Qudra lake and end up with a relaxing get-together or bbq session if anyone like. The beauty of this area, the wide open dunes, and with the occasional sighting of wildlife like gazelles and oryx are all reasons to set your pulses racing. The plan would be to meet up at 2:00 pm as per the below link and then head out to have some awesome fun through terrain that will leave you wanting more, and we will end it with a good spot to sit around Qudra lake and have a BBQ session with chats about the drive, general talk and share some jokes.
      When: 20 October 2017 at 2:00 pm
Where: First Emarat Petrol station on Dubai - Al Ain Road after Outlet Mall.
