Raised air intake (snorkels) do you really need one?

But the logic in here not for water passes. For getting cleaner air from top. Sometimes when you are driving close there are many sand and dust coming from front car.

Having said that, it makes a perfect sense to move air intake higher to avoid low flying sand, however, in almost every car it's been placed in the front fender and concealed with loose plastic and most of the time it faces backward to avoid such low flying sand.

Last year I and Rahimdad spotted a wrangler with air intake from Injen and it was kind of snorkel but not with long tube protruding higher than the car, instead it has small rectangular box stuck on side of the hood (neatly), facing backward means its sucking air from halfway up and also not getting impacted with long tube travel.

It's not needed here, the 0.5 hp you gain from CAI with it is lost with the massive restriction of the snorkel.

Cold air intake has almost 10 - 15 hp gain if done effectively, it's been proven on dyno's

The rule of thumb is 1 additional HP for every degree drop in temperature but I was talking about the snorkel as some people also claim CAI boost from it.

And unlike Sheep the Land Rover Defender comes with a much more cooler looking solution
