How to open the upper dashboard console for 2004 model Pajero.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys the upper glove box console lid has got locked and isn't opening does anyone have any idea on how to open that. It's only a press button lock which has got stuck I guess. Did any of you have the same issue in their Pajero before.

You’ll just have to get ignorant with a big screwdriver and pry it open. As long as you don’t damage the dashboard, you can get a new glovebox lid from scrap.

Those buttons mechanisms are notorious for getting stuck. What helps sometimes is to hit it from the front with a rubber mallet or something soft. Once it’s open some WD40 will do the trick.

Or maybe try WD40 on stuck position too and spray from the thin pipe on top or sides of those buttons and let it soak for 10 minutes. Sometimes we can't see those minute openings where WD40 can seep into and do the magic.

Hi guys after a lot of research and development @Eric Pereira found the solution to opening the lock.

there is a locking system inside the panel which needs to be opened by drilling a hole. Used the drill bit which is used to drill hole in bumpers for parking sensors works just right as shown in the picture below. After doing that the lock was visible and we managed to open it.

Incase you feel that the lock doesn't look good you can swap it with the below glove box lock as seen in the below pic.
