How to read sand dunes formation and texture?

Didn't want to start a new discussion topic on this, and this seems like a good place to drop it in. If you're out and about this afternoon in Dubai, there's a pretty heavy sand storm that at some points reduced my visibility to 50m.

My question though is - is there a concept of "fresh powder" with dunes just like there is with snow-covered mountains. Having spent some part of my life in extremely cold climates, I would look at snowstorms as the perfect opportunity to head out to the slopes the morning after to find some "fresh powder".

Does the similar concept apply in the dunes?
Or does it make driving more treacherous with more pockets of soft sand after?

Definitely this:

Truly a good one to refer to no matter the experience. Re reading it once more by the eye of the experienced is totally different than when I did during my early sand driving . Thanks @Frederic
