Pajero RD lock setting

Nice and simple. Does anyone ever use the RD LOCK (3.8 model only) setting for any desert driving scenarios, the most obvs being getting 'unstuck' in sand.

Yes the Rear Diff Lock is very useful for getting yourself unstuck. Once you are stuck, engage your 4LO, and activate the switch. You’ll hear a humming sound for a few seconds as a small built-in compressor will lock the rear axles together. Once the light stays on it’s activated and you can try using gentle throttle in short bursts to see if you can get the car to move.

Do not ever use it while driving, as it could result in a broken axle.
