Any idea on changing Catalytic Converter to an aftermarket one on the Xterra.

Mine was deleted from the garage without informing me when gave to check the engine in March for misfiring. Now due to the cat delete my exhaust sounds like i am riding a boat 🚤 :(

I found Catalytic Converter for Xterra online but the OEM part number is not the same:

Part number from Nissan(Arabian):
Driver Side: 208A2EA21B
Passenger Side: 208A3EA21B

Part Numbers Supported by the aftermarket Converter:

Driver Side: 208A2EA20A, 208A2EA20B, 208A2ZP50B, 208A2ZP50C, 208A2-EA20A, 208A2-EA20B, 208A2-ZP50B, 208A2-ZP50C
Passenger Side: 208A3EA20A, 208A3EA20B, 208A3ZP50B, 208A3ZP50C, 208A3-EA20A, 208A3-EA20B, 208A3-ZP50B, 208A3-ZP50C

Pat yourself on the back. I’ve never seen a boat driving in the desert 😜

That mechanic should be sued for removing parts without your knowledge. I’d be going ballistic if someone did that.

Is the Sharjah scrapyard an option maybe ? These things are probably mighty expensive.

If the sound is your main concern, you can maybe approach a exhaust specialist and see what they recommend. Maybe a small additional muffler can do the trick.

Hi @Nivin

As far as I know catalytic converters being removed and whole pipe system changed in the world of motorcycles especially super sport to increase performance by increasing Horse power few increments ( which make difference in race events ) and for sound as well to become louder and deeper ( safety : hey bike is here ! )

however on road and as far as I know RTA are strict for that and I am afraid they may not pass the machine )

regarding cars I would assume it’s critical to be present .

I agree with @Frederic and @sertac

It’s costly  and Sharjah scrapyard would Be not bad option to look for the parts needed . I know one guy in Ajman might help finding a solution for you .

good luck

cheers And drive safe 👍🚙🌷

That Mechanic was lucky enough that he left the country before i get the car after engine overhaul 😅

I am gonna try scrap yard tomorrow to check if i can get one clean. Couple of exhaust shops i had visited were giving the option of aftermarket ones which costs from 300-500 each.

A question, does a catalytic converter help reduce the noise? I thought the noise reduction was the job of the muffler.

@Srikumar they made a hole on my stock Catalytic Converter and since then there is this noise from the cat.

Good question. I assume that the honeycomb chamber creates a kind of muffled noise.

I Agree . the muffler will reduce the noise by 30% .I am not expert , but I know it when I wanted to make some modification to my sport motorcycle on the pipe system , and when I came to know about RTA regulations I just changed the muffler only but not the catalytic converter.

i don’t know for cars how it works , long distance , some times double mufflers !

Ask the garage where your old cat is. Some of them sell for up to 1,000 dhs for scrap because of the platinum and palladium inside. I would be looking for my money back.

They do suppress noise and they do stop flames from shooting out your exhaust.

If you want to remove a cat and go straight pipe you need to be aware of the type of O2 monitoring system on your car. If you only have an upstream sensor, you can remove it safely. If you have upstream and downstream sensors, it will throw the engine light and the fuelling will be off unless you delete the downstream sensor from the map on the ECU.
