Pajero. Bash/skid plates. Lift.

Can you explain what do you meant in this point @Gaurav? ''yes it increase the rigidity but if you are playing car crushing games.''

To put things in perspective, I have driven my stock Pajero with stock bash plate for 8+ years and had occasional bending scenario (once in 2 or 3 years), which can easily be hammered while oil change. Just after I installed the winch, my stock bash plate wasn't fitting so I went for a custom made bash plate. Installed in winter and coming summer my car was overheating on road due to absence of ventilating holes.

@Dagdag Sofiane chance of you hitting rock causing an oil leak is next to none in sand, unless you drive like a Dakar rally champions at 100 KM speed in the rocky terrain. If you as a driver is cautious on rocky terrain and drive slowly and sensibly you really don't need such heavy fabricated armour, it's simply an overkill and brainwashed with fabricated sales stories with 0.00001% scenarios.

I have even climb Jabal jais (unpaved in olden days) and several other mountains and wadis with stock bash plate and never had any incident. All my incidents were purely based on my high speed stupidities where I supposed to slow down and I didn't.

This is the car crushing games, I meant as a metaphor.

@Srikumar @Frederic @Wrangeld @Shiju Manuel do you have an opinion on the bashplate design below? Shopping around with other club members we have noticed most designs finish under the front bumper line whereas this one comes up over the front of the grill? Would this potentially negatively impact the nose in the likely (in my case) event of nosediving off a dune onto it?

Hi @Lisa Pemberton i agree with what @Gaurav mentioned. my advice will be instead of making the plate bend to cover the from area, you can have it little bit widen (as per the below drawing) will be more useful when hitting on the dune or what ever bushes in the off-roading. I recommend to use maximum 8mm plate only, 10mm plate would be very heavy and its dangerous when its hit on the ground. And its recommend to use original stock skid plate same bolt hole to fix the new plate rather than making so many holes underneath to fix the new plate. And at the end its all about your choice and preferences what kind of modification you would like to do it on your car.

3. Front bumper trimming - 50 AED

@Frederic, @Lisa Pemberton, @Dagdag Sofiane we have another option here, do not cut it straight as marked in no.1 in the picture. Instead of that you can cut it like no.2 in the picture. So we can cover all the cables inside and everything is safe. There is a metal clamp behind it and they will cut it and screw there.

Well done @Sinol For your bumper (2011 upwards i think) you can indeed not make a straight cut as the bumper is slightly differrent in design. On the 2008 model this was possible.

Hi all

nice pictures and work , although I am not a fan of modification ( body , engine , suspension lift , spacers ... etc ) as this may prevent renewal of my comprehensive insurance next year !

however some modifications is inevitable to some vehicles

what I did for my stock X

1. Replaced the high way tires to A/T tires

2. Minimal trimming front bumper  mainly to the side , may help increase approach angle.

3. Bash plate 10mm thick for the radiator protection as it’s the weakest point in Xterra ( but 8 mm agree would be ok )

4. In the process of sorting how to Kill the ABS while keeping the 4 wheel drive “alive “

I believe suspension lift will entail spacers to balance the center of gravity . However the bearings will be half life Short cut even with the best spacers installed, at least now not going for it .
