Hi Ali,

That all sounds great. We will check the tow points again when we see you, but maybe get them checked during the week if you have a chance. The vehicle is fine for the drive.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

Hi Richard, @Wrangeld

Apologies for not introducing myself earlier today.

  • Jeep Tj 2005
  • I've never driven off-road before, although I have been a passenger a few times
  • I've got what look like towing spots to me on both the front and back (image attached) with an inner diameter of 4cm

Currently viewing the videos as homework, as for the tire deflators, can i not just poke my key into the valve and just test with the gauge (totally understand if it's necessary but laziness compels me to ask nonetheless), i saw them at ace the other day though so i can pick them up before the weekend.

Looking forward to it :D

P.S. since you've got a TJ as well, do you happen to know what i do with overdrive on during the drive? Do i turn it off when overtaking a ghaf tree? how do it work?

Hi @Arman the TJ is a great machine and the hooks are fine.

Leave overdrive on. You'll  be driving in D on 4HI the whole drive, unlikely your engine will get above third gear during the drive.

As for deflation, yes, you can stick a key in the valve as you suggest, but 4 tires will take around 20 minutes like that. Better to spend the 5 ADD on a tool to remove the stem and spend 15 seconds per tire. It's a lot less tiring to use this method than stand by each wheel for 5 minutes.

See you Friday

Richard

@Aravind Padmaraju I have signed you out of this drive because you have already driven one drive with Carnity and this is an absolute newbie drive. I see you signed up for another Newbie as well.

Hope you have a good drive in Friday.

Richard

Hi @Hisham Masaad

Welcome to Carnity and great that you signed up for the Absolute Newbie drive on 13th. I note that you did try to sign up for a drive with Ale and were disappointed because we had not yet had the chance to see your driving in action.

For safety reasons, no matter how experienced, we ask that every driver that that has never driven off road with Carnity to attend an Absolute Newbie. This allows the Marshals to assess drivers and their previous experience.

  • Please share your vehicle details - Make, Model, Year. - I know it is an FJ. What year and model.
  • Do you have any prior off-road experience? - You said you have attended a course before. Which one?
  • Confirm your vehicle has front and rear tow hooks / eyelets.

Even though you may well ahve driven with a different club or structure, the Carnity appraoch might be different so we are that view the introductory videos (links above) before the drive. Please also make sure you have with you a tire deflator and tire guage. You will need these. If you have a offroad flag as well that would he great. Based on your prior experience, no doubt you have these already.

We will end the drive near to a gas station where they have a compressor, however, if you have your own bring it along as it may be quicker than waiting in line.

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday and for more detailed discussions.

Regards,
