@pramod  Welcome to Carnity Offroad Club !

You have probably come across lots of information on this drive topic, the website, and might have a lot of questions on how to prepare yourself for your first offroad drive with us. Rest assured we have covered all the essential information already in many topics, tutorials, and we will be guiding you through every step along they way to becoming a confident safe offroader.

The first thing i'd like to ask of you is to briefly introduce yourself:

1) Which 4x4 are you driving/bringing to the drive ?

2) Do you have any prior offroading experience? If so please specify.

3) Does your vehicle have front and rear towpoints and are they in good condition ?

Furthermore, we have made an amazing Absolute Newbie briefing video which really helps in getting you to understand the first basic essentials, so please watch it with full attention:

MUST WATCH: NEWBIE VIDEO BRIEFING

For your first offroad drive with us you will only need a few offroad gears:
- A pressure gauge and deflator so you can deflate your tyres (available in Speedex, Ace, Dragon Mart).
- A compressor to inflate your tyres (the compressor at the Last Exit ADNOC has been defective for the last few weeks)
- A fully serviced vehicle with front and rear towpoints, and a spare wheel that is usable in case needed.

In case you have more offroad gears you are of course welcome to bring it along.

After this drive, you can start joining Newbie level drives and for that you will need the following gears:

- An offroad flag.
- A Two-Way UHF radio that can be programmed to our Carnity channels.
- A full size shovel.
- Pressure gauge and deflator.

Please do not hesitate to ask your questions on this drive topic. We have many specialists on the forum that will be able to help you out.

DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED

image.png.abf21cf3db8a1dc30931fff6409a8427.png

We are having a nice convoy with lots of capable cars, and a very strong support with @sertac being my sweep to keep an eye on the convoy.

Please make sure to bring a tyre deflator and pressure gauge. We will be deflating our tyres when we arrive to about 14-15psi to make sure the car is "floating" on the sand instead of digging in it.

For the ones that have a radio, we will be using Carnity Channel 1: 446.00625 Mhz.

We have spare radios for the members that do not have a radio yet.

Please arrive on time 06:00AM SHARP or preferably a bit earlier. Most people on the drive arrive 15-20mins earlier so they have ample time to deflate and put their flag on.

Make sure you and your passengers are wearing a mask when you are outside the vehicle, this is a strict rule and makes sure we can all keep safe and according to the government regulations.

In case of emergency, you can reach me on 056 504 2632.

See you guys tomorrow !

DRIVE REPORT

Leading an Absolute Newbie drive is always an adventure, and seeing the smiles again after a few hours of dune-driving makes it all worth.

We started off with deflating, and stressed on the importance of getting it right. There is only a little bit of air pressure difference between 14 or 18psi, but the result can be felt immediately, so it was good to experience this and practice it right. Nevertheless after a few hours of desert driving the pressure will slowly creep up again, so it's good keeping an eye on it from time to time.

The entry point brought us almost immediately into the long range dunes, where we practiced some minor sidesloping and made some nice loops. Firstly because it is fun, but also because it teaches you all about steering control and the use of momentum.

The two Pajeros behind me, with @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader doing an amazing job as second lead, and @Abilash Madhavan getting the hang of his capable Pajero, were in pursuit of my little blue, that has spent a week in the workshop and i was glad to finally take back the steering wheel.

@Santhosh kumar Rajasekaran   driving the mighty Range Rover, is not the easiest vehicle to learn, but you did well and kept a cool head, even when the engine starting throwing some errors and @sertac had to do some diagnosis with his magic OBD box.

@Gavin Hill and @Chris Meir were excited to hit the dunes, and you guys both did amazing. Gavin, i hope your initial fear of getting the Hummer H2 stuck in the sand has been replaced with the confidence and knowledge that the key thing is momentum at all times, especially when driving a big mighty V8. You both did a cracking job !

@Rajesh Anchan and @Bala Krishnan both brought their Prados to the drive, and both drove really well !

The same applied for @Dinesh Dembla and @pramod who brought the legendary Landcruiser. Well done guys !

@Thomas Varghese you were in the back of the convoy and that is always a little bit more difficult because of the churned up sand, but you were also lucky to receive the wonderful guidance from @sertac who did an absolute amazing job today. Keep up the momentum and don't be afraid to wake up the beast that a Xterra is. You will be surprised once it wakes up :)

Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot.

UPDATE FOR NEXT WEEK: BECAUSE OF THE LIWA EVENT THERE WILL BE A LESSER NUMBER OF DRIVES ON THE WEEKEND OF 4 DECEMBER

For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum.

  • Learn to deflate your tires and checking them precisely
  • Learn to fix a flag on your car
  • Learn to program and fully charge your radio

Also like I mentioned during the debriefing, join the Carnity Whatsapp Drive Notification to get the latest updates on the drives, so that you can RSVP on time for the next weekend's drive.

Please have a look at below topic which describes the tools needed for every level. There is a separate tutorial inside which explains which radio we recommend and how to program them: (Please do not buy the Baofeng 888S spare radio we gave you, as these cannot be programmed without a special cable and software).

Please have a look at below grading structure that explains various off-road levels:

See you guys soon in the sand again !

Hello Team,

It was a nice get together and enjoyed every bit of it!

Both Fredaric and Sartaj were amazing. The brief at the start was excellant and took away the nervousness. The tips coming in from Fradaric on when to accelarate, when to decelarate etc., were top notch and  helped a lot in not getting stuck. Sartaj put in his expertise whenever needed. The machine Pajero was amazing as well responded to all the needs, never thought the stuff we did was possible with it! Last but least, the team was great and kudos to everyone!

And to anyone who still havent decided to do this, it is an amazing experience which we need to go for. Afterall, no point in keeping your 4x4 as a showcase!

Looking forward to the next!

It was really wonderful to be a part of the group learning to negotiate the desert. Thought I knew how to drive but today my skills were upgraded to start trying the loose sand as always I was driving on Tarmac. All the time after having the XTERRA I look at sand dunes and wished to ride up them but was wary without having some guidance and to tell the truth I got some very valuable guidance today. @sertac was very helpful and I really love the way he rescued me in times of need. Hopefully once I finish the full course will drive with him and @Frederic in the desert off to glorious sun rises and sunsets. The rest of the team I wish them good luck and hope to meet them in the next drives and learn dune bashing with them together.
