Pajero - Getting Unstuck with Traction Control

Recommended Posts

Thank you for sharing that @Frederic, yesterday we learnt how to use a difflock if you don't have it as an option in your car, from @Rahimdad and today this wonderful piece of information from you. You guys are too good 👍

A very innovative solution Mr. Newton. And when you think about it makes perfect sense. Will try it out on one of the drives. Now only what we need is a Pajero to get stuck. Shouldn't be too hard 😂

When driving in sand, we always recommend to disable the traction control on every 4x4, and this goes for the Pajero as well. How to disable it can be found in below advice:

Now when it comes to getting stuck, we found out that the traction control can actually help you in recovering yourself, because when it's engaged it will cut the power to the wheel that is spinning, and that is exactly what we want during self recovery.

So if you have a kill switch, or you just pull the relay like described above, give it a try by putting it back and restarting your car whenever you get stuck and want to crawl yourself out. Give a little bit of gas and keep turning the wheel FULL left FULL right.

We made a demo below:

This trick will work on any 4th generation Pajero, but be aware that traction control will disable again when you engage your rear difflock. In the case of our demo car this was a 2008 3.8 Pajero without rear difflock (Qatar model). This will also work fine on any 3.5 Pajero.

So the next time when you get stuck, try to enable your traction control and practice to see if you can get yourself out by using the blip-blip method (gentle throttle in bursts up to 1500rpm) and full left full right turns. You will see on the dashboard that the traction control will automatically cut the power to the wheels that are spinning.

How does this work with model with rear diff lock!? Will it even work? @Frederic

Hi @Gaurav Soni yes this will also work, but not in combination with your rear difflock activated. So you could do like this:

1) First attempt with traction control OFF and rear difflock OFF

2) Second attempt with traction control OFF and rear difflock ON

3) Third attempt with traction control ON and rear difflock OFF

The problem is that Mitsubishi disables your traction control automatically when you go in 4Lo with Rear difflock ON.

Because of this, some guys in Australia designed a double-functionality killswitch that would enable you to engage your rear-difflock AND traction control at the same time. That would be in theory the most interesting feature for self-recovery.

Thanks!
This is interesting! I have been doing some study on the Toyota crawl mode and this nifty mod may turn out to be close. The driver has to take the role of the pressing on the pedal just enough !

will see where I can find these sweet switches in 🇦🇪? Any ideas? @Frederic

@sri ganesh this was ordered online on the webpage you shared in your post. They have a dealer who will either post it to you or you can pick it up in JLT, Dubai.
You can message him on FB messenger link on the webpage.
No wire cutting. It’s plug and play. May need to lengthen the loom wire depending on which location on dashboard you install the switch.
