@varunmehndiratta if you are going for a Merc forget about the C series, look for an older and more reliable S Class. They are loaded with options you can't even imagine and they are as smooth as silk to drive. I think upto 2014 models were pretty reliable and came with options where you can control the front passenger seat from the rear for extra comfort in the back. You can get a good one for under AED 100k so you can save a few for the maintenance cost. I would recommend you take it to a Mercedes specialist which are plenty in town and I am sure it would not cost you as much. I do agree with @Gaurav bhai and his personal recommendations for the Lexus GS series, if I am not mistaken the LS series is also pretty good. I am not a big fan of the IS or ES models as IS is entry level which is more for youngsters, and ES is mostly focused by companies like Uber and does not come with a lot of driving comfort as it seems to be meant for driver services. I am not a big fan of Infinity either. If going for the Audi, avoid the Q7 as any work you need to do you need to remove the whole engine which itself costs so much, the Q5 on the other hand is more popular as it is easier to work on and thus does not cost you as much in labour.

Thanks Rahim Bhai...surely can't go for 2014 model...will have to sleep in garage for rest of my life...🙂 A brand new Jeep for myself and 6-7 year old for wife is a recipe for disaster....,😄

Based on above GS looks like a real winner. LS is expensive and on your point for IS, I am still a youngster Rahim Bhai...😃😃

Stay away from S-class like a PLAGUE.

They are superb for royal people but when they are 5+ year old, they drops the price like a melting ice as each component is priced for half a million dirham car and many used S-class are sold for dirt cheap as the owner cant afford to buy parts more than the cost of the car.

Close friend of my bought S600 for dirt cheap and after 3 months sold for even cheaper price as some maintenance issue arise which was costing him to spend half of the car cost.

Just got the call from a garage, they are offering 14k for my IS300... 2008, base option with fabric seat, no flashy sunroof etc.. 185k done... Seems okay? It's in perfect form, just needed to change starter solenoid so sent to garage. Tyres are around 20k (1.5year old) done and insurance/registration due in Aug... If a decent deal will go ahead and look for new....what do you think?

He is ready to pay the cost of solenoid replacement as well on top...so around 14500-600, effectively.

I think you should get at least 20.000 for that car. If i needed a car now i would jump on it for that price.

  • 2 months later...

Hi All

Just wanted to share after around 2 month or so of contemplation and assessing multiple options - Sonata, Accord, Lexus IS, GS, Merc CLA 250, BMW X2, a bit contrary to advice 😉 have just booked a Volvo S90...

Got a decent deal on 2019 T5, momentum model around 30k done and with 2.5 year warranty and service contract .. so decided to close on it.

Had rented a few cars - Sonata, Accord, S90, none other was able to provide the comparable ride experience . Merc CLA was too small to even be comfortable for kids, X2 lacked the features was just about BMW tag and Lexus with 2ltr engine was not even half as fun as my previous 3ltr

The luxurious space and the features in S90 were just too much to let go (will miss the sunroof but then perhaps would be good to go naked with my Jeep soon 😀)... None of the others were offering anywhere close to it in this budget.

Thanks for your support and advice. Just that sometime heart speaks louder than brain. Keeping fingers crossed...good part is they have possibility to extend service contract at 3k for 2 years after expiry of same.
