Dear Absolute Newbies

@Nishant Mulani @Saddaquat Tanvir @Aisha S @Abdelhamid Elbasossi thanks for signing up to the Absolute Newbie drive. We will publish the meeting point within a day or two. In the meantime, can you please share with us, the following.

  1. Your car. Is is modified in any way? Do you have the required clearance? If there are low hanging spoliers or air dams, there is a risk that they can be damaged so please take this into consideration.
  2. How much 4x4 experience do you have?  Please share with us if you've been out in the sand before, or if you had any other off road experiences.
  3. When did you get your front and back tow hooks inspected last? You'll not be able to drive unless your tow hooks are in good condition, so it's worth getting them checked before any disappointment.

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday for the drive.

Please also make sure that you watch the instruction videos here in this feed and you that before arriving you understand how to disable your electronic safety devices as far as possible (ABS/EPS/Airbags) and look through the manual to get a good understanding of how your 4x4 gears work.

Morning, the car is a Toyota Landcruiser GXR 2019 with no modifications. I have driven once, via a lesson arranged by Toyota 2 years ago in the desert, the clearance was good underneath.

The tow hooks, I presume were tested in the last service. In the last 3 years they have only been used once, and that too was in the desert.

I need to purchase a Compressor, can you recommend any good trusted ones?

thanks

Daq

I have have a 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero 4 door no modification. Hooks have been inspected and used recently. I drove in the desert 4-5 times already in the last 4 months

Looking forward,

Paolo

Hi Daq,

There key issued for a compressor are the speed of inflation and reliability. Look for something that is rated at around 150PSI otherwise it will take a lot of time.

Many of us in the club have Chinese built 'Camel' double chamber compressors that you find in Dragon Mart. This should cost around AED 250 depending on your negotiating ability. They are great, until they are not and it's always a gamble.

Single chamber compressors are less expensive, but take much longer to inflate. You can pick up a basic one for around AED 150.

Don't buy the inflators advertised on Facebook as magic inflators. If it's not attached to your battery during inflation, it's not going to last inflating one tire, never mind 4.

From a traditional 4x4 store you will find more expensive compressors that will in the end be more reliable. Top of the range is and ARB

The drive location has been updated.

As mentioned by Richard, it's mandatory to go through the Newbie Briefing Video. Few more updates about the drive would be provided tomorrow.
