The 2010 Taurus is an all-new family sedan from Ford, launched in the region at the start of 2010.

It is the sixth generation model to bear the famous Taurus nameplate and replaces the Ford 500 as Ford’s new flagship sedan.

The front-wheel drive car boasts of a dynamic exterior, plush cabin and lots of useful equipment. The standard Taurus is powered by a 263bhp 3.5 litre V6 engine which is mated to a choice of two new six-speed automatic transmissions, one with SelectShift manual shifting capability and paddle shifters (available on SEL and Limited variants).

The Taurus rides on 19 or 20-inch wheels and includes many innovative features such as a Blind Spot Information System and an integrated Cross Traffic Alert, which warns drivers of oncoming vehicles which the driver might not be able to see.

Radar based adaptive cruise control and a collision warning system also feature on the new Taurus and make the car one of the safest in the segment. Other available features include keyless entry with a keypad system, auto high beam and rain-sensing wipers, as well ass the SYNC voice-activated phone and entertainment system, massage seats, power rear sunshade and a premium audio system.

The Taurus also has a sporty variant dubbed the SHO, which is due at the end if 2010. This variant features a more potent 365bhp, 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The SHO Taurus features all-wheel-drive, a mildly stiffer suspension, larger wheels and a rear lip spoiler.

Ford boasts of 0 to 100kph time of just over six seconds for the SHO, which is rather good for a car weighing nearly two tonnes.
