2010 Ford Fiesta review

The Fiesta supermini is one of Ford’s best selling models globally and its entry-level model in the Middle East.

Currently in its sixth generation the majorly revamped Fiesta was launched in the region in 2009. Despite being a budget hatchback the European designed Fiesta boasts of a dynamic and sporty exterior and an upmarket new age interior which is likely to go down well with budget car buyers.

The Middle East gets the five-door version with a choice of either an 81bhp, 1.25-litre engine or a 95bhp 1.4-litre unit. Available in three trim versions – base Ambiente, Trend and Titanium – the 1.25-litre unit is available only on the lower two variants and comes only with manual transmission. The Fiesta with the bigger 1.4-litre heart sells more in the region as it is available with a four-speed automatic transmission and can be had in the Titanium trim.

Though the equipment list is not long especially on the Fiesta Ambiente, the Titanium comes with power front windows, air conditioning, start button, leather steering, ambient lighting and projector headlamps, as well as a CD/MP3 audio system with USB and front fog lamps. Options include 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rear power windows, automatic headlamps and wipers and a rear spoiler.

The layout of the interior especially the dashboard is very futuristic and the quality of materials, fit and finish are good too. Because of the Fiesta’s compact dimensions the rear seats are low on legroom especially with the front seats pushed back.

Standard safety kit includes dual front airbags and ABS while the Titanium version comes with additional front seat side airbags and knee airbags. Electronic stability control (ESC) is optional on the Trend and Titanium models.
