2010 Ford Edge review

The Edge is Ford’s premium mid-size crossover, which unlike the slab-sided Flex offers a more butch SUV like styling.

In terms of size the Edge is smaller than the Flex and does not have the same interior space or seating capacity as the latter. Unlike rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse the Edge only has two rows of seating and can accommodate up to five adults only.

The Edge imbibes Ford’s new family look with the upright three-slat chrome grille, which along with the blunt nose and chunky headlamps create a SUV-like intimidating fascia. On the inside the Edge feels more like a sedan.

The 2010 Edge is available in three trims – SEL, Limited and Sport – all powered by a sole 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 265bhp and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Edge comes with front wheel drive as standard but a useful all-wheel drive system is available as an option on all variants. Built primarily for the tarmac and not the rough the Edge is reputed to offer crisp, sedan-like handling matched with a pliant ride.

Useful features available on the 2010 Ford Edge include Ford’s SYNC entertainment and communication system, a voice-activated navigation system and a large panoramic roof. A power liftgate and 20-inch chrome wheels are optional.

The Sport trim comes with a unique 20-inch painted alloy wheels, sport exterior kit, unique leather seats and steering and sporty aluminium inserts on the inside. Standard safety equipment includes ABS, front-seat side airbags, side-curtain airbags and stability control.

Ford unveiled the next-generation 2011 Ford Edge in February 2010. It features new powertrain options, revised front fascia, wheels, rear bumper with LED taillights along with a revamped interior. At the time of going to press, there’s was no news on when it would arrive in the UAE.
