Hi Frederic, Good morning and thanks for your message.

1) Which 4x4 are you bringing ?

I drive a Jeep wrangler rubicon 4 door.

2) Any prior offroading experience ? If so, where and when ?

Have driven with some friends 6 or 7 years back when I used to drive a prado. Have recently bought the wrangler and it will be my first time with it. The intention is to learn driving the right way.

3) Are the vehicle's front and rear towpoints available and in good condition ?

Its a brand new car so all is in order.

I have gone through the video. Need to buy the radio. I can go to dragon mart buy it today. any recommendations on the model/make ?

Thanks for your reply @Rajiv Sodhi

With regards to the radio, we can provide you with a spare radio for your first drive, but if you were planning to go to Dragon Mart today i can recommend the following models:

1) Motorola or Crony MT777 model (+/- 130-150AED).

2) Baofeng UV5R (+/- 75AED).

You will find plenty models, but make sure it's a UHF model and the frequencies can be changed/programmed. (not the screenless models).

In below topics you will find all information related to the radios, including the programming frequencies.

Dragon Mart Off-Road Gear Shops - Off-road - Carnity.com

Carnity Two-Way Radio Frequencies - Off-road - Carnity.com

See you tomorrow !

My name is Juan-Peire du Preez.

I am South African and have been living in the UAE for 5 years.

I am keen to learn more about desert driving techniques.

Please see my answers to your questions below:

1. 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4 door.

2. No prior off road experience.

3. Yes, the front and rear tow points are present and in good condition.

I also have a question:

I might not have all the equipment needed in time for tomorrow's drive.

I will try to see if I can find everything I need today, otherwise I will join the drive another day.

Can you tell me if the compressor in the link below is sufficient?

Buy Xcessories Big Grunter Double Cylinder Compressor + Xcessories Tire Gauge (0.5-4 Bars) Online in Dubai & the UAE|ACE (aceuae.com)

Thank you

Thanks for the quick reply Juan-Peire.

Don't worry about the equipment. For your first drive with us you would only need a pressure gauge. The "Xcessories" brand compressors are not that great unfortunately, but should last a couple of drives until you get completely hooked and then you can upgrade to something more robust (inflating 4x4 tyres from 15psi to 35psi takes a serious toll on compressors).

Some info on compressors in below article:

Thank you for your feedback Frederic.

Let me get the basic equipment and then I will join the group.

I wouldn't want to cause any disruptions.

I will remove my RSVP for tomorrow and join you in the future!

Thank you for your assistance.

@Rajiv Sodhi @Kamal Dhanwani

It was a pleasure to meet you on Friday and i was really impressed with both your driving !

Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7:00 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot. If you miss a spot, put your name on the waitlist asap. Generally, by Thursday with dropouts everyone does get a spot if they have waitlisted.

For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum.

  • Learn to deflate your tires and checking them precisely
  • Learn to fix a flag on your car
  • Learn to program and fully charge your radio

Also you can  join the Carnity Whatsapp Drive Notification to get the latest updates on the drives, so that you can RSVP on time for the next weekend's drive.

Please have a look at below topic which describes the tools needed for every level. There is a separate tutorial inside which explains which radio we recommend and how to program them: (Please do not buy the Baofeng 888S spare radio we gave you, as these cannot be programmed without a special cable and software).

Please have a look at below grading structure that explains various off-road levels:

See you all soon again in the sand .!

Thanks Frederic, it was a pleasure indeed. The absolute newbie drive was great. Got to learn a lot from your knowledge and experience. The briefing is long but certainly worth it. I did takeaway a lot from it. Your passion for what you do is evident.

Thanks once again for your patience with us absolute newbies. Hope to drive with you in one of the newbie drives.

  • Thanks (+1) 1
