Walkie Talkie Static and Interference

The short antenna will be more than suitable to transmit within convoy distance (further than that should be avoided anyways)

This comment about antennas leads me to a question: I've noticed that in some cases, when convoy spreads over a long distance, say for example a 10 to 12 cars convoy, the last positions may experience a broken reception of messages transmitted by the leader of the convoy.  I suppose this is exceptional and not the norm, so I was wondering if there is any recommendation about antennas or anything else that may help?  (😂 mods for 2-way radios! )

Thanks in advance!

Our resident radio guru is flying atm, let's wait to see what he adds.

In the meantime, I got a once longer, capable, flashy, antenna for Motorola MT777 but it didn't do any magic. Installing the external antenna on a car comes with a hassle that it also needs to plug in a hand-held device all the time.

The only thing I can think of with my limited radio knowledge, its the wattage of the device that defines the capability of dispersing long-range broadcast. So 10 Watt Kangda will be better than 5 Watt Motorola or Baofeng. The second reason is the dune formation, if you are in low-lying dunes, coverage will be crisp, but if you are in tall dunes coverage will be very limited.

Let's root for each other & watch each other grow.

In a uniformed world, the Lead + CF + Sweep would connect their BaoFengs to this BingFu 12.5” external antenna for an added 8 dBi gain over stock antenna. This way, the 3 most important positions are always audible to other drivers 😁

Let's go for the overkill and have a drone tethered to CF with an antenna always above the height of the dunes 😆😂

Except the desert will have some antennas dispersed throughout the desert the idea is good. I remember having a magnetic mounted flag pole on my car. It was good for something like 20 drives and once I went down a step really hard I haven't seen the magnetic mount or my flag since then. Actually I think the present set up of having cheap radios suits me. If I didn't hear a transmission and needs to really understand it I will ask for a retransmission. Regarding SQL I had a conversation with @Frederic long time before and tried his recommendations but to be truthful none of these settings in Boefeng works and doesn't make much difference. The earphone for the radios works for me better than the speakers it comes with.
