Afternoon Intermediate Desert Drive - The Scorch Trials (P.1) - Dubai - 30 Jul 2022

This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and strictly follow these guidelines.

MUST READ AND TOTALLY AGREE:

Drive Details

Level:  Intermediate and above

Meeting time: 3:30 PM (SHARP - Without any exceptions)

Meeting Point: Dropped pin
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ATc8SASUigiP8xo28

Action Plan:  My most vivid, earliest, memories of my going in the desert are...heat, heat, more heat (and some dust). Unless one is going into an artic desert (yes, there are some), that's what everyone expects from a desert: to be hot. Coupling this with my distaste for early morning wake-ups, here come The Scorch Trials - summertime afternoon desert drives, as hot as they can be. The reward will be the a beautiful sunset, and a slowly cooling temperature, before heading out to a nice dinner with your loved ones.

Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance.

What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face mask, rubber gloves, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Approximate finish time: 7:30 PM (with the possibility of a 30 minute extension to reach the exit)

P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.

LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE:

  • Limited to 10 cars maximum. RSVP will close on Friday - 12 PM.
    • If the RSVP is full and you wish to join, please mention your name on the drive thread to add on the waiting list
  • Latecomers will be returned back - without ANY EXCEPTIONS.
  • Members without RSVP will be returned back - without ANY EXCEPTIONS.
  • Members that do not confirm the terms of the COVID requirements will be removed from the RSVP list.
  • Please withdraw your RSVP, if you aren't joining, so your spot can be taken by others.
  • Repeated no-show members after RSVP will have their account suspended for a month.

PLEASE RSVP ON THE CALENDAR

Due to the recent rain and cooler weather conditions its be seen how much we are going to be scorched in the desert. Hopefully we won't be doing a pond or river crossing inside the desert.

Dear Desertnauts

while the weather seems to have gotten in the way of a scorching trial this weekend, we'll still do our best to enjoy the cooler spell among the dunes. We don't expect this drive's theme to change into The Big Chill. So we'll warm up by crossing from Solar Park to Little Sweihan, we'll bring up the temperature of the drive a notch, by navigating the soft, tall and tight dunes of this triangular shaped formation just north of the eponymous AD area, and will keep the drive hot by speeding through the Faqa plateau, before reaching our exit.

The convoy, truly quite an experienced one, will line up as follows:

@Zixuan Huang - Charlie in Second Lead

@ASAD. at #3

@Waqas Parvez #4

@Davie Chase at #5

@Simon Dawood #6

@Thomas Varghese at Center Forward

@Vaibhav will be #8

@Zed #9

@Daniel Yang at #10, and

@Chinthaka Ruwan in the Sweep position.

The radio channel will be chosen before starting the drive. In the meantime, enjoy the evening, and stay cool.

Dear @Ale Vallecchi the professor in desert driving, I am honored to be the center forward in your convoy for tomorrow. Considering @Davie Chase being a support team member acknowledged by @Carnity I can forfeit this position to him if you and he wishes to. I'm not shying away from responsibility and know perfectly how to support the convoy with your guidance when needed. I'm comfortable in driving in any position you assign me to. If you still feel I should be the center forward I would be glad to assist you and the convoy.

Hi @Thomas Varghese. Thanks for your considerations. As you know from past drives, and considering the couple of drop-outs we've had, I'll try to mix up positions, so that as many members as possible will have the possibility to enjoy different roles/places. See you tomorrow.
