2010 Jeep Wrangler review

Recommended Posts

The Wrangler is the iconic Jeep known, loved and trusted the world over.

Though it’s extremely far removed from the WWII-era original Willys Jeep, it’s still one of the most capable off-road machines around. It unashamedly sticks to its roots of being a hardcore 4×4 for tackling deserts, wadis, mountains and anything you might put in its way. Although it’s designed to perform well off road, this latest version is much better on road than its predecessors.

There are two body styles on offer, the two-door Wrangler and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited. Both are essentially the same machine, though the four-door model has an extended wheelbase which gives it much more interior space. If you don’t desperately need the extra space on offer by the larger Unlimited, we’d go for the smaller and lighter two-door version. There are still seats in the back, though it might not be as comfortable back there as it would be in the Unlimited.

As an off-road model, the Wrangler doesn’t really do too much in the way of creature comforts – but that’s the whole idea. A Wrangler should spend its weekends up to its axles in soft sand only for it to be hosed out on a Saturday evening ready for the working week.

Power is provided by a 200bhp 3.8-litre V6, which has plenty of low-down torque to ensure the Wrangler can pull itself out of the trickiest of situations. True off-road enthusiasts will specify the six-speed manual gearbox which is available via special order, though most weekend warriors will be happy enough with the standard four-speed automatic.

If you’re serious about your off-roading, then the Wrangler should definitely be on your shortlist.
