when i get a petrol fill up it shows that it is full but the needle goes down faster then it should this is the first time it has happened have i been cheated or there is something wrong with the car as i don't think the fuel is leaking i tried to smell but no smell

if petrol needle showed full, that means it was full. There is no way petrol attended can cheat that.

Note your fuel km and if some significance drop, then get it service (if its due) or get it check with some pro guys.
