how can i clean the gear as recently the kids had dropped their powder candy on it and when taken to the auto wash guys they havent done a good job. can i remove the gear and clean it i have a 2008 LX 470

What you are referring to gear is a gear lever. Even if you drop 50 kg sand and 200 liter water nothing gonna explod the gearbox or gear mechanism. However it might choke the gear lever to shift. Thats it.

You need detail cleaning guys like in awir opp side road of car market few shops do DETAIL cleaning in 250 aed and take one full day. Give then 50 aed and ask them to detail clean the gear lever and they will open few plastic part until they can reach safely and clean all candy residue. No sweat.
