The Q5 is a compact crossover SUV from Audi and is pegged under the full size Q7.

The five-seater Q5 is based on the Audi A5’s platform and made its Middle East debut in the second quarter of 2009. At initial glace the Q5 appears like a shrunken Q7 because of the similar fascia, side profile and rear.

Also, like the Q7, only the petrol engine Q5 models are sold in the region. These include a fuel-efficient four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged unit with 211bhp and a 270bhp, 3.2 litre V6. Both engines are mated to Audi’s S tronic automatic transmission.

The Q5 competes primarily with the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK. Since its launch the Q5 has become a hot seller because of key attributes like good build quality, agile handling, practical dimensions, a premium cabin and top notch safety. In addition features like quattro four wheel drive and hill hold assist give the Q5 the ability to tackle mild off-road terrain.

Being significantly lighter than the Q7, the Q5 offers better acceleration and handling albeit at the cost of inferior insulation from the road surface. Standard kit includes xenon headlights with washer, three-zone climate control, alloy wheels, leather steering, electric front seats, cruise control and an Audi sound system with Bluetooth. Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, head airbags and rear side airbags (optional) along with ESP and has earned the compact SUV a five-star Euro NCAP crash rating.
