2009 Peugeot 607 review

Recommended Posts

In an age where car models rarely last longer than five years, the 607 is verging on antique status. It first went on sale in 1999 and had a facelift in 2004.

Nevertheless, it retains fans among the great and powerful – French president Nicolas Sarkozy used the executive saloon to ride to his inauguration in 2007. It’s also used as a taxi in many countries across Europe, which maybe dents the image a little, but adds to its reputation as a smooth and practical machine.

Despite its plastic surgery five years ago, the looks are a little dated as we head towards 2010. That said, it’s highly specified. Just the one version is available here, powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 engine found in the 407. That means it gets 211bhp, which is transmitted to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The 607 also features electronically controlled suspension, which can adjust the hardness to either a comfort or sporty setting at the push of a button.

2009 Peugeot 607On the outside, standard features include 17-inch alloys with integrated tyre pressure sensors, an electric sliding sunroof and high intensity xenon headlights. Front and rear fog lights are also standard.

Inside, luxury is the name of the game. That means full leather, dual zone climate control and automatic headlights and wipers, which turn on by themselves when it gets dark or rains.

Other features include a JBL sound system and Bluetooth hands-free phone connection, electric heated front seats and cruise control. The boot can be opened electronically and there’s a ski hatch from the boot to the rear seats if lengthy items need transporting.

2009 Peugeot 607Safety features include front and rear parking sensors attached to a visual display on the car’s screen. The car’s hazards will come on in the event of an emergency stop, aided by ABS, electronic brake distribution and electronic stability control, all of which help to keep the car stable during extreme manoeuvring.

The 607 is big, and aging – it’s probably due for retirement very soon. However, it is luxurious and spacious, and represents a lot of car for the money. If being at the cutting edge of technology hold no interest for you, then you may find what you’re looking for here, but there are plenty of newer cars available and it’s hard to find a reason to ignore them.
