Starting issue has three things that you need to diagnose yourself.

Fuel, Air, Fire.

Fuel: Check fuel filter and pump, easy way to check floor the car and see if response is instant and great then it cant be fuel issue. Also drive on highway at 120-140 and see car runs smooth then fuel is fine.

Air: Check air filter is clean and Air flow meter is good.

Fire: Check spark plug is good, HT lead is fine, Coil pack is fine.

I am having trouble starting the my Peugeot 307 SW - 2006 model. The battery is just 4 months old. One mechanic says that there is a problem with the starting motor. Any other suggestions? Anywhere I can get a second opinion?

when this happened once in my car the mechanic said its the alternator had to be replaced.
