Cleaning Catalytic Converter

I have a peugeot 207 2008 model. All along the car has been maintained by Peugeot service centers for almots 150,000km. Recently had gone for 160,000KM service and after this I have lost the car pick up and power. The silencer noise sounds as if it has leaked. I have the intermittnet Anti-pollution Fault sign. The workshop says I need to change my cars catalytic converter..which is atrociously expensive. Has anyone used any catalytic converter cleaning methods..? Is there a better workshop where I can get a good second opinion about my peugeot?

its not possible to clean the converter it has to be replaced with the O2 sensors.

first make sure that is indeed the cat converter that needs replacing
