brakes are sinking.

I pressed the brake and in the start i felt that its got loose it easily goes down then after some time i started feeling that it just sinks down the floor. i had to stop the car and ask for recovery. Missed work today just to make sure that changing brakes will solve the problem? before i go the mechanic because i cant spend too much this week

can someone tell me what happened
