engine is spluttering

after getting the automatic wash done the engine makes a spluttering noise which only happens initially nut dose this harm my engine and can someone tell me how the water enters the engine as i never let them clean it

Water cant get in engine if hood is closed. What must have happen is went little bit inside thru exhaust and then exhasut was making spluttering seems like engine is coughing. Its ok, its normal. Just to be sure in next wash tell guy to plug the exhaust pipe with wood or newspaper and see if it happens again.
