  1. Hi @Emil, welcome to your off road family. We are pleased to have you onboard. This week the drive is intended for the level of Fewbie and above thus I will not recommend this drive for you. However we would be happy to accommodate you as a passenger to get a flavour of the desert. We will be posting a Newbie drive for the week to follow, you may sign up as a driver there. As far as it goes with the mods, I recommend that you first attend a few drives before you decide what mods are necessary for you. The Nissan Patrol is very capable stock and no mods required so early. By the way is it a Y61 or Y62. Sorry new shape or classic shape? If you decide to come as a passenger please advise your location so we can determine if one of the participants can pick you on their way. Worse come to worse you can bring your vehicle to meeting point and you can park your car there, we can pick it up on the way back. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

  2. Looks as if this car had been purchased for swapping of parts and therefore the dashboard is missing . A lot of people do this to restore their old vehicles as they get the same price of scrap and if purchased individually it falls pretty expensive.

  3. Hello All, I just joined the club today. Pleasure to be introduced to you all. Having lived in UAE for the last 10 years, exploring the desert was always beyond my thoughts. Reading the comments from the last drive you had on the 2nd sounds very interesting and definitely excited join if given a chance. I am very new to off road driving except that 2 years back I got stuck in the sand while going for the desert carols. After which I saw some of the youtube videos to understand some of the basics. Not sure if a modification is required on a Nissan Patrol to drive in desert. Tyres were replaced 2 months ago (Basic Tyres). Having gone through the list of mandatory equipments required for desert drive, I shall go to ACE and find them this week. Event on the 9th looks slightly professional and not sure if you will accommodate an amateur. Else, I shall wait for the next newbie event. Thank you, Emil George.

  4. Sorry but I don’t buy into it. Point 1, any fuel tank is never safe. And I for one would never trust a carbon fibre tank. Carbon fibre is strong but it’s only as strong as the resin holding it together. Have you ever seen a carbon fibre panel after a crash? It explodes into thousands of tiny shards. It’s basically glorified fibreglass. Point 2, it is clean but it’s not clean to produce. Yes hydrogen does burn clean as I already stated but, it’s the current process of manufacturing hydrogen that is unclean. What’s the point of a clean fuel if you make pollution to create it? Point 3, exactly, there is no infrastructure. Where are you going to go to fill up your hydrogen car? Do you want to have to drive 100 miles to the nearest station every time? Inconvenient is the word. People want to fill up on their commute home, not travel to do it. What if you run out? You’ll need a recovery truck to get back.

  5. It will be a unforgettable day in my life. As a new bie and very new to the carnity club , i have reached the Tawi Nazwa shops area with a ton of questions in mind. Whether it will be safe or not ? How i will drive in sandy conditions ? What i will do i got stuck ? Is it going to damage my car ?,,,,etc. But after having the first briefing it self , i was getting my confidence by seeing that things are handling in a very professional manner and the leaders are being gentle and approachable to any questions in my mind. A special thanks to MR @Rahimdadand Mr @Gaurav for making me and my friends comfortable to start with. The drive was absolutely stunning and a experience which i was waiting for many years. Not only for be but also my friends also were enjoyed it very much. The bond between the members are remarkable and by seeing that i am proud to be part of such a good team. Thanks a lot to @EmVarlet@Asif Hussain@Atif@Julien V@Frederic Nuyttens for all guidance and help. Looking forward more trips together. @Gaurav,As you mentioned , will participate in @Rahimdad newbey Survey as well with comments. Jay

  7. How do you even end up sideways on a flat straight track. Only in a Jeep!

  8. Talking about resetting the adaptive shift, most cars have it. Like mentioned in the thread earlier, since my car is practically a bmw. Holding the pedal down with the key in on resets it, nothing gets messed up. You are a mechanic, you should know this.

  12. Hello Rahimdad, Thanks for your quick reply and so nice of you to accommodate us. Can I bring a friend along with me? We can drive to the meeting point to avoid the hazels. Else, we stay in Silicon Oasis. Just understood the vehicle is called Y62 (New shape). Regards, Emil George.

  14. Can apply these three to electric cars and they fit like a glove.

  15. Doesn't seem like a RHD to LHD conversion. It's pretty bad and i am wondering what the plan was by gutting this car's interior. I don't wanna burn my fingers on this one, although it would make a pretty nice JDM project. But then again if i drive around in Al Quoz i constantly find myself falling in love with the abandoned wrecks...

  16. You can drive around for a decade in manual mode and nothing will happen. The ECU only learns in automode. Have you figured out a way to reset your trans ECU yet? And even then the ECU will average out your driving style and set shift points according to that. So unless you are lead footed most of the time a reset will still not help much.

  17. Just to update on this issue, I recently changed my phone (same brand as earlier - Samsung), and the bluetooth function in the Paj works fine now. Thank God I didnt change the car system. 😃

  18. @Rahimdad Thanks for reminding that I didn't login for a while lol. @Jeh Bro they are quite cheap like any other car, I have 2006 x5 v8 4.4 If u r buying a pre owned car just make sure u get it computer diagnosed before buying not the rta passing. It gives u clear idea what u r buying. I have owned x5 for 14 months, nothing has been repaired other than break pads, break booster or refill of ac gas. Running strong roaring on road. If u r OK buying used spare parts it will turn cheaper than Japanese repair. Sounds funny but truth. My duster used to cost me a fortune even for regular repairs as compared to x5. Only thing is petrol is little on higher side. I am not a fan of saloon cars much so won't comment on 3 series but 5 series v6 is a good car. Rest x5 is never meant for off roads so don't try and screw your car it's very powerful lion on road but risky for deserts. U will love this ultra performance machine if u own. But on a verdict if saloon ,mercs are a more affordable option in long run. All the best

  20. Hello. I really appreciate that drive. I was more confident, and refusals are not issues, you just have to make a turn, and start again. I would like to thank all the team for their kindness and their professional help, and Atif for his canteen. I would like to say more but my english is a bit unsure. See you next time.

  21. Wow, maybe seems a but short now, but it was an amazing drive. The best part is all met in good time. I would like to thank @Gaurav bhai for putting ink to paper as there is so much knowledge to share that if it's not in writing some important information might be lost. Also this document will help all members as they grow within the club and post their own Absolute Newbie drives. After a quick deflation we were off with total of 8 cars. I am impressed with the newbies as some difficult area which I felt would be somewhat of a challenge was very well managed by them. As we approached close to Pink Rocks we noticed a Nissan Patrol crested and along with @EmVarlet I headed to the rescue. When we arrived there they were actually struggling with a pop-out. At this point I called @Gaurav bhai for help. After trying to pop the tire back in on the crest we asked them to bring the car down. As the brought the car to level ground we continued our efforts. The best suggestion came over the radio as @EmVarlet headed back to the group waiting for us. My hats off to @Asif Hussain, @EmVarlet and @Atif bhai to take responsibility and take @Frederic Nuyttens , @Julien V and @Jayakrishnan around instead of waiting for us. After useless efforts to pop the tire back in, we left our tools with them with a suggestion to take the tire to Tawi Nizwa shops and get it fitted and return us the tools after the drive. At this point we headed back to the group with smiles on everyone's faces. Within very little time and no trouble we were at our beloved Pink Rocks. We each had a go to reach the top and was approached for help by a dune buggy which had broken down. The person was a gentleman to agree to my request of having snacks and leaving in about 30 minutes and waited patiently in his buggy. At this point @Atif bhai opened his canteen and we shared different snacks from all which was absolutely fantastic. To top it off was the tea from @Atif bhai which was amazingly refreshing. At this point we packed up and helped everybody out along with the buggy. The gentleman was extremely thankful and we had a debrief, inflated and left with the exception of @Gaurav bhai, @EmVarlet and @Asif Hussain who continued to take advantage of the excellent weather. Thank you all for joining, sharing your experience and memories through your pics. Special thanks to @Asif Hussain for excellent video.

  22. Well, to be honest, Emanuel asked us few times to take newbies for short spin but we were hoping to fix that strangers pop-out in 10 minutes. Things got real ugly when we realized that they have already moved the car quite a lot on a popped out tire to remove the seam from both sides and rubber lost its shape. We finally left them with our tools to let them figure out on how to pick the spare wheel lock as fixing the popped tire was FUBAR. For the testosterone, we have seen and detest those who can piss further contest so many times that we like to enjoy the Friday without any 6 days politics or usual rivalries or peer pressure on who can spend most on cars and mods / gears/gadgets etc. @Julien V and @Frederic Nuyttens please post your pictures in gallery section always, as after every drive we create an album for that drive and images in the gallery are stored on a permanent basis. https://carnity.com/gallery/category/94-absolute-newbie-offroad-drive-pink-rock-02-nov-2018

  23. It was a lovely drive and the flexibility of the senior team to quickly reschedule based on the events was a clear proof that this is an off-road club of members that genuinely care for each-other and take up responsibilities when asked. @EmVarlet @Asif Hussain took us newbies out for a wonderful drive while @Rahimdad and @Gaurav did what they do best: help others and spread the community core message of leaving no-one behind. Thanks guys you both gave us full confidence and guidance ! What i really admire in this off-road club is the family style approach and the lack of testosterone and braggers as you will find in many other clubs. Surely the senior team members of the club attributed to his massively and i want to thank them for that. @Atif thanks for the cafeteria "Prado" style @Gaurav thanks for taking my manual-tranny-granny up to Pink Rock, i had a blast and your knowledge is priceless ! @Rahimdad thanks for just being you, a wonderful and gentle guy that i hope i can continue to learn so much from ! On the the next one !! Great video @Asif Hussain !!

  24. Most cars have a way to reset the ecu, like in BMWs you fully press down the gas pedal, turn ignition to position 2 and hold the pedal for 10 seconds and then switch off the ignition wait for a minute or two before restarting the car and the ECU should have reset. Look around and search the web for a way for your Pajero.

  25. @Barry also advise if removing battery terminal for few minutes to hours can help ECU forget the old settings? I read somewhere, but don't know if its true.

  26. Do you have O/D off button on gear lever neck on the left side? Press that, it will show an orange OD off light at the dash and delay your shifts to kick in above 3k rpm, that gives more of a sporty feel. I have that in my Pajero and I do use that option in offroad only, on the road I prefer quicker shift for a more comfy ride unless I'm racing. Not sure about Adaptive Shift control in Pajero's, isn't that all auto transmission have that these days and learn the driver style to offer the required driving experience. Few months back I was using my wifey trailblazer for a month as a daily driver and in the beginning it was so sluggish and less responsive and after a few days it turned into a monster to show where that 290 hp were hiding

  27. What if you keep your original radio and get external bluetooth system. https://uae.souq.com/ae-en/bluetooth-multipoint-speakerphone-handsfree-car-kit-with-sun-visor-clip-black-7536208/i/

  28. There is a trick you can try, not that I advocate it. Turn the TPS on the throttle body around a few degrees and it can alter the shift timings. It will cause a fault code to come up when you scan the ECU but it won't do any harm. But be aware, putting it back to its original place can be a pain in the ass if you don't mark it before you move it.
