  2. Dear all, The car in question is Mitsubishi ASX 2013 model (oman) Having issue with AC, and the issue is that AC works in normal mode with standard v good cooling, but sometimes randomly (specially day time), it trips off and doesn’t trip on again…. If I turn it off and then turn it ON after 10 15 mins.. it starts working fine again…. Mechanic checked and said gas is OK… So what could be the problem??? I discussed with one of my frend, he told me that his Sonata was having similar problem and that was because his evaporator used to get ice on it, and when he turn on ac after 5 10 mins, his car ac used to work fine. Can similar problem be with my car? And how to check ice on evaporator???

  3. Check your idle control valve as a first step. It might need either cleaning or replacement.

  4. Underpowered imho. We should ask @Barry if he could throw in a Clio Williams engine or RS engine in it. Would make a nice little project 😂

  5. @Srikumar Thanks for your reply I was having same light blinking problem 2 years back and upon checking, my mechanic diagnosed that the AC gas was low which was refilled at that time, now after 2 years gas is still at required level/ quantity but now the problem is some different, as I mentioned in my main post..... For me the main problem is finding a good reliable and honest mechanic here in Muscat, because when I was in Sharjah I had a very good and reliable mechanic which I am still unable to find here...and dealership is always v v expensive....

  6. I had this same issue on my Pajero and the cause was a slow leaking compressor. After working for a few minutes the AC light would start blinking. After an immediate restart the compressor would work for a while before it started blinking. Since the leak was a very minor leak from the compressor I was able to top up the gas from time to time and used the leaking compressor for a further year. But finally, I changed the leaking compressor and the issue has been resolved.

  7. Except for a Mercedes G Class and Land Rover not sure which European car makes a proper 4x4. As for Koreans don't think they ever made a 4x4 with low range gearing

  10. Thanks for the explanation and as per your previous experience, you should be fine in Sweihan fewbie level drive and you are more than welcome to join tomorrow. However, if you face any difficulty or if we spot any danger then you can join any of us as a passenger to get the first-hand feel of Sweihan

  11. @Gaurav Thank you . I've been driving offroad for 2-3 years from 2012-2015. During this period I've also marshalled/sweeped various Absolute Newbies and Newbie drivers during my college years at Heriot Watt University , Academic City. I have driven in different deserts of UAE such as Area 53 , Pink Rocks , Fossil Rocks , Margham , Badayer , Al Faqa , Al Faya Devil's Plunge. I believe that such a drive in Sweihan will help me get back in touch after 2015. Incase I feel that I'm not fit for the drive mid-course , I'd be glad to stop the drive and head home , since I wouldn't want to slow down the pace of the entire convoy.

  12. Sweihan is a serious terrain but we are doing a fewbie drive and not Intermediate drive, so as an exception I can allow you based on your previous offroad experience. Can you please explain a bit more in detail for how many drives or years of offroad experience you have?

  15. For a person who afraid from maintenance cost should be stay away from any car like this. All BMW owners around me spending some money to their car time to time. It is sensitive car when you compare with Japanese horses. I dont think Porsche will be a huge difference. I am hearing they are reliable but anyway you might need to change bushes arms because of the age it wont be cheap.

  16. Get this information verified by at least 3 different sources. When I had Cayenne, my colleague's friend had it too and the stories were totally different. Can't recall to be honest but X5 also has a big drama on every visit and make them cry. @Nuke you still remember ......?

  18. For me it has to be that every car park in Dubai is full of abandoned Ferraris and Lamborghinis. I’m always getting messages from people at home asking how to buy them.

  19. How about this "fact"- Electric cars will replace all fossil-fueled cars in 20 years.

  20. Remember you are talking about 10 years old car in either case and being a German luxury segment expect a high maintenance cost on both vehicles. That's why you are getting at 1/10 of its face value. I was in similar research a few years back and Cayenne better reliability wins as per online research. Then I start seeing few X5 and Cayenne and saw the repair bills from owners that outweigh the Cayenne option hands down. It was based on 5-6 cars viewing for X5 and Cayenne in Dubai. X5 all owner had several sheets of bills from AGMC during the warranty and just after the warranty period, whereas Cayenne owners had very little repair bills. I myself had 2006 Cayenne Turbo from 2012 till 2015 and the only thing I remember spending for repair was one of the headlight cornering light failed, that forced me to change whole left side headlight unit. It was maintained at Nabooda throughout and if I remember correctly cost approx. 2000 for minor service and 4000 for major service. I think these service rates are pretty standard for most of luxury SUV in the UAE, as I'm paying a similar rate for my Range Rover now.

  21. Every offroad convoy has to follow these rules to keep moving the whole convoy safely at all times: Follow the car in front of you all the time. And also follow the path taken by that car (STRICTLY), until you learn to lead. As an occasional exception, if you see the car in front of you struggled or churn up the path, it is advisable to drive little left or right and then follow the same path again. Keep 5-10 cars distance all the time. Keeping it too close you will risk an accident and keeping it too long, you will lose the path. If you cannot see the car behind you, please stop and notify on the radio so that the leader can stop until they all catch up. Stick to your convoy numbering at all times, if changed due to some situation fall back to the same order as soon as you can but safely. If convoy is not moving due to some stuck / refusal, please be patient and stay safe at your designated position. No playing, side sloping or any breaking the convoy activities will not be tolerated. Radio communication is PRIME, listen and respond to it promptly all the time. Convoy positions Leader: The first car who leads the drive and everyone has to follow the leader instructions precisely with respect. Second lead: The second car in a convoy, who drives behind the leader and avoid or fix any unforeseen situation as it may happen. Everyone in the convoy needs to follow the "second lead" path like a magnet - at all times. Sweep: One or two cars at end of the convoy to help and recover stuck vehicles or advise the correct path after the refusal. Flying Sweep: This car can be anywhere to do the sweep duties of recovering stuck vehicle or coordinating the convoy movement.
