  2. Hello I just thought i would add to this. After my recent servicing and works on my 2006 Pajero, i experience the same symptoms (Central light blinking after short amount of driving). After searching through the threads to find a solution, I found the problem which was a very simple fix. The vacuum hose had come loose. Just thought i would add to this thread so we can compile easy to understand solutions for this common issue.

  3. Drive in Wadi Shawka, Dam, Track, Camping, Hiking, Cycling, Weather, Location, Photos, Videos, Reviews and Feedback from the travellers who have visited before. Wadi Al Shawka offers many adventures in one place from offroad trails to outdoor sports like cycling, hiking, canyoning etc. Wadi Shawka in Ras Al Khaimah is covered by Hajjar Mountains from all side and the valley is filled with rocky terrain, farmland, water pools, wildlife and plenty of parking and camping spots. Wadi Shawka is a perfect place for having a family picnics, bbq and get-together in nature. Wadi Shawka is about 1 hour away from Dubai and Sharjah and approx 2 hours 30 minutes from Abu Dhabi. Drive to Wadi Shawka Dam: You can drive any car there as it has a flat track path with a mix of tarmac road till Shawka Dam. https://goo.gl/maps/srTTLCiZtn72 25°06'20.1"N 56°02'33.2"E - 25.105587, 56.042553 For offroad adventure, Wadi Shawka offers two levels of route: Drive in Wadi Shawka - Easy (only for 4x4 and SUV): Instead of going straight towards the Shawka Dam, you can take right towards the Canyoning parking and follow the gravel track for fun and adventurous drive to reach right behind the Shawka Dam. You can enjoy the beautiful views of the mountain and water together with plenty of shaded area for fun and picnic, bbq and games. Careful during the rainy season. Wadi Shawka Weather: Wadi Shawka temperature is slightly lower than the city temperature by 2-5 degrees. Maybe a lot lower if you can find a good shade under the trees. Wadi Shawka Entrance Fees: There are no charges to visit or using public areas Timing: It is open 24/7, 365 days, but to enjoy nature daytime is better. Wadi Shawka Camping: You can camp anywhere safely, but be careful of wildlife especially after dark. Essentials: Outdoor clothing and closed footwear, Online GPS is a must for driving (offline is even better), carry plenty of water and food if you plan to stay outdoors for long hours. Keep it clean: Don't litter anywhere, because trash cans, plastic and glass kill wildlife. Emergency: If bitten by a snake or a Scorpio take a picture or remember the colour and size and rush to the nearest hospital for a specific antidote for that species. 4. Yes with Nitrogen, if you intend to keep it with Nitrogen. Else it will eventually just become normal air filled tyres. Regarding the pressure it depends on the condition of your tyre. Normally for good tyres you can keep it at 35 psi, but with worn tyres and summer approaching I would suggest reducing to about 32-33 psi

  5. It is hard to know exactly without know the specific Pajero Model but this extract from the Pajero maintenance manual is useful I would suggest to do the following: Replace timing belt (if any) Replace spark plugs Replace spark plugs cables Replace transmission oil Engine oil: SAE 15W-40 will do the job (fits temp range from 0C to 50C) Transmission oil (assuming is automatic): Type: NL: Dexron 2 30-40 seconds is too much time - the average time it takes the oil pump to distribute the oil is 10-12 seconds but the oil is designed to stick to the surface for a long time and there are spaces in the engine that will prevent the oil from slipping off from important (moving) parts of the engine. Having the AC on or off would make no difference at all.

  6. Brilliant article ! *Al Qudra Lakes are a nice getaway, but can get extremely busy on the late weekend afternoons and evenings. Beware to take your GPS with you because as it gets pitch dark and as all lakes look similar it's very easy to get lost. Most of the trails are easy to drive on, but i've come across quite some areas where people got stuck, especially in the sandy parts between the road and the side entrance of the lakes. Many people that drive towards the lakes have zero to none off-road experience so you'll see many people getting stuck with 7 people in the car and no deflation done. * The Love Lakes are definitely worth a visit, especially on weekend mornings between 9 and 12 when it's still calm and peaceful. (ssssst... don't tell the others )They are easy to reach if you drive all the way up to the Last Exit roundabout, go left and follow the road direction Al Lisaili. Keep going straight for at least 3 roundabouts and then take a right where you will see the sign boards that will lead you to the parking of the Love Lakes. (most of this road is a sandy trail that goes parallel with the High Voltage Lines), it is a road that any SUV can tackle. Even 2WD would work but is of course more risky. Warning: Google Maps shows another lake called "Love Lake", but this is a wrong pinpoint: https://goo.gl/maps/nABTVGaT87q This location is NOT the Love Lakes, so do not look at the reviews of the disappointed people. *The Bicycle track has different lengths depending if you stay parallel with the main roads or go into one or more "loops" in the track. There are several loops within the track. Avoid taking these loops at night or when you ride alone; there have been reports/rumours of cyclists getting lost, or accidentally crashing into a gazelle or oryx. Some of these loops are close to the Maktoum Solar Park (24.740259, 55.322964). Novice cyclists could go on the Saturday morning breakfast ride that starts at the bicycle roundabout parking at around 6AM (depends on the season), they drive up to Bab Al Shams for breakfast, and then drive back. There are 2-3 groups with different average speeds. I would avoid using these tracks for a leisure ride with kids and the misses, as you'll be shouted at constantly to move over by the wannabe Lance Armstrong types . As we go camping often; the areas below the Maktoum Solar Park are fantastic and quiet. But don't venture out alone and go at least with 3-4 cars, and keep the nice spots for yourselves

  7. Make a guess, post below and then watch the video. I purposely didn't embed the video to kill the surprise, so don't complaint. Ideally you should keep your tire pressure at 30-32 PSI OR 2.0 - 2.2 Bar. https://youtu.be/pP6vnIuod_s

The drive will be around the Fossil Rock area for the newbies, big red is far off for newbies to manage from this area. @Javier M depending on the convoy size this drive will be split between newbie and Fewbie. 2 convoys. You will have the choice to join either one.

  9. I believe Wadi Shawka & Shawka dam are different places. I had been to shawka dam in peak summer in 2016 on my fortuner. I just followed google map. When google map said "you have reached your destination". I was surprised, thought my google maps needs update or had some calibration issue. I looked around and found it was just like a deserted area nothing else. Saw one pathan gentleman and asked him bhai ye shawka dam kahan hai(Brother, where is the shawka dam). His response was. Sir aap jahan apni gaadi le ke khade ho wahi dam hai (Sir, the exact place where you are with your car is the dam only). I looked around and found some water marking in red which said danger level etc. then it was confirmed that the place where i was standing was inside the dam. @Gaurav bhai is it advisable to take 4x4 route or other sedan / suv route if im planning to visit.

  11. Best 5 things to do in Al Qudra Lake. Enjoy Love Lake Dubai easy access. Explore Al Qudra Desert with gazelle and camping under the stars including the BBQ. Al Qudra Lake is the best example of man-made lakes in the middle of Saih Al Salam desert, which is a part of the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. You can enjoy the best sunset in the desert with a waterfront view and surrounded by wildlife in serene and beautiful lakes. Qudra lakes is a house of beautiful birds and wildlife from flamingo, ducks and swans to Oryx, gazelles and desert fox if you venture little deep in the Qudra sand dunes right behind but with a proper 4WD vehicle and not in sedan or SUV. Al Qudra Lake Al Qudra lakes have been designed in such a way that you can easily reach them in any type of car from a flat track (not tarmac). You can spend time next to these beautiful Al Qudra lakes, set up a picnic layout, put your chairs and enjoy Karak tea or a shisha with your friends and family. If you plan to do the BBQ then do it slightly away from the lake and do it in the BBQ pit and not on the ground. Idea is to keep it clean and after you finish your BBQ, throw all burnt coal, wood etc. in the garbage drums, conveniently placed almost everywhere. Love Lake Dubai Recently opened this beautiful Love Lake Dubai has two heart-shaped lakes towards the end of Al Qudra Lake. Although flat track entrance is made until love lake, however, it is very easy to get lost in the sand while reaching there. So if you are driving an SUV or sedan be extra careful to stick to the flat track and not the sand patch. These lakes are so huge that first time we spotted them through Google Earth while planning a desert route from Lisali to Al Qudra Lakes and then we named that drive as Drive in search of love when these lakes were under construction. If you plan to visit Love Lake Dubai from the desert, then be very careful as this lake is surrounded by small technical dunes from three side and only easy doable access is from the front side, from where the flat track is made now. Al Qudra Cycle Track For bikers, Al qudra lake is a perfect place to enjoy cycling in a safe, serene and dedicated cycle track that offers various length from 10 Kms to 70 Kms. It's an amazing place for cycling, as the track passes through a serene desert that sometimes offers you a glimpse of wildlife along with beautiful scenery to enjoy while pedalling. You can rent the bike from TREK store or carry your own bike and gears, make sure to carry plenty of water as there are no shops or cafeteria around the cycle track. Qudra dunes offer a great mix of small to medium dunes just behind the Qudra lakes, but you need a proper 4x4 and not just an SUV and also you need to deflate to 12-15 PSI to enjoy these dunes safely. This area is perfect for beginners offroad driver to fewbie level as close to the solar park side it gets little technical. Qudra dunes always offer a good glimpse of gazelles and oryx, that even in the night drives we have spotted a few. However, remember not to chase the Gazelles as they are very fast and very smart to take you towards the technical dunes to slow you down or even make you stuck on the crest. We have done several drives in this area from newbie to fewbie, you can use the attached track for safe offroading. 12. What did you enjoy about the drive? The desert track. Which part of the drive you think you enjoyed the best which you would like to repeat? Going down Fossil Rock Do you think there was a good mix of lecture and practical, was the lecture too long, and any part that can be avoided or done in a shorter or different way? I remember thinking the lecture was very slow, it took a long time to go through the points, maybe if a video is created with all (or most of the points) and ask that all the newbies (or everyone) to watch it before the trip would make things faster at the briefing site. Perhaps asking some questions to make sure they watch the video. Do you think anything else could be added to the lecture? It is pretty comprehensive as it is already. Do you think prior reading material would help? Yes, it is not only about having fun, it is also about taking it seriously for everyone's safety. Would you know where on the Carnity forum you would be able to find the information you are looking for? Yes, although I mainly use the forum to share the little knowledge I gathered while growing up around cars being designed, fixed and tested. Is there anything you think could be done in a better way? I would suggest to make the briefing a bit faster. How do you suggest to make things better for the new comers? How do you think you can progress within the current atmosphere and learning opportunities provided? Have a presentation video of what carnity is and what to expect during the drive, and what is expected from them. Or just some written literature they should read before joining the drive.

  14. Yes, @syedyaseer Wadi Shawka Dam and Wadi Shawka are two totally different places to visit with different levels of vehicle and skills required. Wadi Shawka Dam is the first route I propose above, search in google maps and off you go with regular sedan or SUV. Picturesque enough to keep you engage and after reaching that point you can walk down with all your stuff and settle down. Wadi Shawka backside access until the viewpoint is through a flat track and at least SUV is advisable as sedan might damage their bumper. However, after the viewpoint on the right side, there is a track to explore real wadi shawka for which you definitely need a proper 4x4 with LOW gearing, deflate tires to 25 PSI and vehicle should have minimum 10 inches of ground clearance.

  15. Hi, you can buy 5W 30 or 10W 30 minmum in SM or better go for SN. while recommending the oil the manual also suggest you to choose 5W or 10W as per your temperature range however the viscosity will remain 30 for both.

  16. That is a very basic question for every car owner that unfortunately not a lot of people pay attention to, but it is not only applicable for the oil. It is applicable for anything related to the maintenance/upgrade of your car. For me the short answer is yes I make sure is the specific brand I want is used.

  19. 2019 Mitsubishi Lancer EX Poised and perfect in every way The global automotive industry suffers from a severe competition – the only way to stay afloat is to make cars at the least cost possible and sell them at prices similar to other vehicles of the same size. Segmentation is killing off great cars, and the Lancer Evolution was one of them. Once a flagship offering, Mitsubishi has now discontinued it entirely. All that remains of the wonderful EVO is its compact saloon brother, the Lancer EX. Now new for 2019, this new car is a ray of hope among enthusiasts. While it's true that the exterior has remained unchanged for many years, it still looks thoroughly modern. This was a futuristic look, and now that the future is here, Mitsubishi will probably never update it. The design is quintessentially Japanese – poised and perfect in every way. Whether it is a highway or an art studio, 2019 Lancer EX is inspiration personified. Step inside and the interiors aren’t modern but the aesthetic is timeless. It is still all plastic but the materials have a soft look throughout the cabin. They are dark, but that complements the air of sportiness and sophistication. Thin chrome lines the air conditioning dials – dainty. The CVT gets paddle shifters which are made from magnesium. The touchscreen is small by 2019 standards, but it is mated to a 710 -Watt Rockford Fosgate sound system for exhilarating fun and enjoyment. There are two engine options and three transmission options. You can have the GLS or GLX models with a 1.6-liter engine which makes 117 hp and 154 Nm, with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto. The better engine is the 2.0-liter which makes 150 hp and 197 Nm, but it is only available with the 6-step CVT in GLS, GLX, and GT trims. The GT is the best-equipped and best-looking car of the lot. None of the trims make for a fast car – 0 to 100 km is possible in 10.5 seconds with the 2-liter and 13.6 seconds with the 1.6 engine. This makes the 1.6 - liter variant about as quick as a stick-shift Mirage. But it is better equipped and no more expensive than a Mitsubishi Mirage. 20. I know. But I just couldn't be arsed in my beaters. As I said I ran the disco 8 yearsً on ordinary tap water, ripped open the motor just before I let it go to fix all the seals and new timing gear and chain at 330k kms. Absolutely no corrosion anywhere. A couple of years ago I did some real looking up into Evans waterless coolant. From what I remember it really wasn't sonething great and as you mentioned it ran much hotter and something to do with the chemicals used in it. Anyways overall it wasn't something that was recommended and too great on your motor in the long run.

  21. Sorry dude, but this isn’t good practice. I primarily work on classic cars so I see the long term effects all the time. Running on water isn’t good and it does affect parts, especially aluminium parts. Unless you’re running distilled water, which I’m pretty sure you aren’t. Coolant with corrosion inhibitors does serve a purpose. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t even recommend ordinary coolant, if fill all the cars here with waterless coolant. Sure, the engine runs a bit hotter but it’s all about the boiling point.

  22. On a separate note, my tires were filled with Nitrogen air, do i need to fill the same again or can i fill normal air at fuel stations? Whats the ideal Air pressure (PSI) for 265/17 R16

  23. Well I'm guessing you obviously didn't take the time to read my detailed response, as I said anti freeze isn't merely for the coolant not freezing during cold weather. As for brake fluid, obviously some cars have bigger engines, produce more horsepower, go faster and thus have bigger brakes and produce more heat so a dot 3 would not suffice. As for viscosity no where does the manufacturer recommend only to use 20, 30, 40 or whatever rated oil, there are two examples already in this thread where manufacturer recommends different rated oil for different ambient temperatures mentioned in the owners manuals. Problem is no one bothers to read the owners manual!

  24. Hi, the name like Glanz Lube is making you come forward and say that all information in this thread is wrong and false whereas I can point out many things on your knowledge. Yes, we are in this business, from manufacturing to wholesale selling(Covering Americans, European and Local) but not with this name. the only information given before your first comment was an API chart from their website and if you and to tell them that they are wrong surely they will not have time to waste on this. secondly, the DOT 3 and DOT 4 which you are mentioned especially for European cars, is not like that. I guess there is a need to know why the car needs to have higher boiling point liquid rather than giving a try to have more boiling point liquid in your car. To have coolant and not to have coolant is entirely your choice as it belongs to you. my point will remain like this that if you have to add water in the coolant then what purpose left for using coolant. -40 temperature in GCC I never experience so far may be due to my limited mobility in this region. however, you have clearly avoided the topic of required/recommended viscosity by the manufacturer. if a car manufacturer recommends to use 20 viscosity but you want to use 50 based on temperature reasoning then again it's your choice because it's your asset.
    1 point
  25. Say Wot ??? The engine of the temperature of the engine of oil temperature........?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I have no clue what you just said. Could you try to be a bit more clearer? NO, manufacturers don't always recommend DOT3 in fact most bigger, specially european cars mostly say ONLY DOT4. DOT4 has a higher oiling point than DOT3 so in heavier or performance orientated cars where heavy brake usage is anticipated its almost always DOT4 and now even DOT 5 or DOT 5.1 No, many a time I have run my older cars only on water, cars I was not really bothered with keeping long term or knew had aluminum heads and blocks. I kept my Series I for 8 years only on regular water with no adverse effects, because prior to selling it I opened up the entire engine for new timing chain, seals and gaskets. Had 0 corrosion in it. But anti freeze is not only for preventing freezing, its also a rust inhibitor as well as lubrication for your water pump and many don't know it also has a certain life and like brake fluid should be totally drained out, flushed and refilled around every 2 to 3 years, Not in the UAE, where there is not two different types of extreme temperatures. It just goes from being really hot to mildly chilly here. So something like a __-40 should suffice year round. And btw with an name like Glanz Lube arn't you suppose to be somekind of expert of all of this?

  29. Thank you for organizing this drive, Rahimdad. It will be my first drive with the group and I look forward to it. I will be driving an FJ Cruiser and I am a Newbie. Would you share a little more information on the route? Will it mainly take place on sand around fossil rock and big red or the rockier places nearby? I look forward to meeting you and the group! I assume it will not be difficult to spot everyone at the petrol station. See you on Friday!

  30. 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage The 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage is an economy car built to be fuel efficient. It is more sophisticated and better finished than before, though also pricier. This is one lovable little car now, which loves you back with the nice interior, polished exterior and enormous fuel saving. On the outside it is proportional, with larger headlamps that house daytime running lights and projector head lights. The sides and the back are the same as the outgoing model. But the new LED tail lamps lend a younger look to this aging design. The paint is looks good, too. The lower-profile make the sides look less bulky, lending it a super mini-look. It appears bloated from some angles, but only to indicate that there is room on the inside – the Mirage is spacious and has a decent-sized trunk. The materials here are still hard plastics, but they look nicer now. The center console has a neat layout. Door-cards now get some padding, too, and the steering is wrapped in leather. This new car is nice inside. Air conditioning is manual, with chunky dials. Segmentation of the 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage is difficult with some premium features – electronic wing mirrors and steering-mounted audio controls. Storage space is generous up-front and scarce in the rear. The gauges read clear, and there is a redundant-for-CVT tachometer, too. Keyless entry makes this car very convenient, as does push-button start. Hill-start assist will prevent anxiety caused by the gutless engine. The 2019 Mirage is as slow a car as before, making 78 hp and 100 Nm from its 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder engine. It will sprint to 100 km/hr in 13.8 seconds. It is still a light car, at 880 kg without passengers. The driving experience isn’t fun by any means but the turning radius is 4.6 meters, which means that you’re going to need fewer three-point turns than other cars. The hardware isn’t too bad – torsion beam suspension in the back is capable of offering decent handling. The front brakes are ventilated, which means the Mirage will stop well, over and over again. The cabin-ambiance is more important than the driving experience for this car. A better engine would have been costlier, any way. So the primary motive of the Mirage is good fuel economy. This baby Mitsubishi will consume 4.7-liters/100 km. However, since prices in the UAE range from AED 36,900 for the base-spec and go up to AED 45,000 for the fully-specced car with 4 speakers, 2-din CD player, and 165/65 R14 tires. The new car deserves such a price tag, since it has many features that aren’t commonplace in the economy segment. The Mitsubishi Mirage has a fresh face for 2019 and promises to offer more than before. Given the popularity of this car in the UAE, this new one is expected to sell well. Enthusiasts cut Mitsubishi more slack than other car makers, and that’s why the Mirage has come this far along. But the 2019 car is more with-the-times than before. 31. Yes, possible but not sure how manufacture origin affects these things? I got those for AED1400 so even if they last a couple of years, its fine. the date stamp is week 48- 2018, not that old either. Have you gone ahead and made the purchase? If not, check with Juma Al Majid, i think they were quoting around 1890 for G039

  32. Thank you, sir, for the information and this definitely helps us to improve and update our knowledge as well. we are all here for the same purpose. my question is if "engine oil temperature range" is the information telling us temperature range in which oil can give its optimum performance then what will be the temperature of the engine while running in which oil is in use? in the same picture the owner of the thread is mentioning to use DOT4 brake oil, well then why manufacturers always recommend using DOT3 or a mix of DOT3 and DOT4 brake oil? Do you really think you need to use Anti Freeze Coolant while living in GCC? it is mentioned over there. If you add water in Anti Freeze Coolant then what will be the purpose left for using coolant instead of using water? in recommendation it is saying use the engine oil as per your climate then should we use different oils in winters and summers? I seriously couldn't find less than this from this picture. please don't mind as my purpose of asking the question is not to challenge anyone's knowledge. my humble apology

  33. Excellent input @LewisCocks90 this small piece of information can save so many owners tons of money, time and hassle. Keep it up.

  34. @syedyaseer just like what desertdude said, all engine oils are multi - viscosity. So you have one viscosity reading for winter (first number) which is suffixed by 'W' and the second number which is for the summer. Those numbers donot indicate the actual viscosity but infact represent a scale for comparison between the various grades. So in your case for UAE weather which never will see sub zero temperatures, you can choose either 5W-30 or 10W-30, as the summer viscosity (in this case 30) is the same for both the grades. You can decide which one to choose based on availability. Always better to put fully synthetic oil. Also, referring to one of your earlier comments, I also have started buying the brand of oil that I prefer along with the original oil filter and give it to the mechanic to replace them. They charge AED 20 - 30 to do the oil replacement and I have complete peace of mind on what is going into my vehicle. It also works out to be cheaper for me as well.

  36. Could it be because the G056 is Thailand made and not Japanese?

  37. Point # 2 is actually a very old tradition and passed on from generations. This was specially applicable in the older models of the 90s, cuz I've grown up seeing my father and other relatives switch off the AC before switching off the car. I think it should be applicable even now as the care on engine load on start up still applies? Though to be honest I don't strictly follow it with the assumption that engines are much more capable now? Not sure if my assumption is correct!

  38. Experts, To continue with the topic of which engine oil shall i use in my prado. I have below image clicked from my user manual. Kindly guide me which of these two spec mentioned to be used in UAE weather. Clear recommendation/suggestion(if possible with brand name too) will be much appreciated as i will not be able to digest the technical part of the same. 😄

  39. So much wrong information on this thread that I just couldn't help myself! Believe me I tried ! The two ratings on the oil is basically the minimum viscosity the oil will maintain in a certain temperature range. Like for example 0W-20 ( The W stands for Winter ) and the other number, 20 in this case ,a good rule of thumb is that 20 that oil will maintain certain thickness or viscosity for up to 20 C . So basically it wil not be too thick at 0C to not be able to pumped around the motor to keep it lubricated and at 20C it won't be thin enough that its not doing its job. Read your car manuals they recommend different grades for different temp ranges. Below I've attached a page from my manual. So if you are using 0w-20 "for all american cars" as is being suggested in peak summer time hear where temperatures are hitting close to 50C then you are asking for trouble. And the S and C stands for S= Spark as in petrol engine C= compression as in Diesel engines. And the next letter is the grade and usually the higher the letter the better it is, specially if you have a newer car But better to check for older cars. I mean 15-20 year olds. http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/oils.htm

  40. 1. Very Imp - In case the car has been parked for long hours - (for eg. overnight or full office hours), start the engine but let it idle for 30-40 seconds as this will work the engine oil to all moving parts at Idle RPM and then head off to your destination, also do not rev. too much for the first couple of kms as far as possible. 2. Not sure about this but i was advised to switch off AC before turning off the car so that at the time of start-up, the AC motor does not put additional load on engine start-up (perhaps senior members can shed some light) 3. Use quality engine oil and change it very regularly as per the Oil type (would recommend full synthetic - Mobil1 or Total, recommended grade as i understand is 15W-40 but you will not get this in Mobil1). 4. Since you mentioned 93K, check previous records if the Timing belt has been replaced. If not, then this is recommended every 100K kms, timing belt, pulley, water pump, thermostat & such things, on that note, also check if "Major Service' was done, which basically replaces all the major fluids. Brake, gear, Differential, Transfer case, power steering and such. Please note, major service will not include the timing belt part, it has to be done separately. Engine is not a high maintenance part if you follow basic rules, most important is right engine oil grade & a quality brand & timely oil change.
