I feel for a manual car to be in 4Lo 1st gear is too much of a stress on the vehicle. For me, 4Lo 3rd gear is equivalent to a 4Hi 1st gear5 points

Not yet. But i just run out of momentum while i'm at 6000rpm in 1st gear. Tried with central difflock on the last time and was slightly better, but very marginal. Rear difflock can only be engaged in low gear and is too tricky for climbing a hill as you can seriously damage your diff if you go to fast or if there's too much friction inbetween the rear wheels.3 points

Yes that’s a good remark. Also check if the unit accepts MP3 only or not. You might have other audio formats on that cards like M4a, AAC, Wmv, etc... that the unit is having difficulty with.3 points

thanks to you, here's another hour gone googling around2 points

I haven't tried in the desert but I used to engage diff lock going uphill it made a huge difference2 points

I know... it all depends on the mood of my car, myself, and the amount of anti matter in the atmosphere at that time 🤪2 points

I actually got it done in Deira Naif area and unfortunately have not had the time to visit the area yet. But in the meanwhile, I was able to isolate the issue to my SD card only and I was reading somewhere (cant recollect where now) that if in the SD card there are more than 99 songs in a single folder this error can happen. So would be segregating the songs in the folders and giving it a try.2 points

Looks like he bought it from Dragon Mart without a receipt or even a business card. When he went back to complaint all the shops and faces look same. That's why he is not replying here2 points

Take it back and throw it at the guy and say, hey you sold me shit2 points

You may start more early to avoid rush at border and also in case you waste time at border still be able to cover that second leg during daylight. Plan break at every 150-200 kms as all fuel station are positioned that way, with 300 km you might not be in sync. Dig some old salalah thread here and quote those people who have visited last year for latest update on fuel station, road, places etc.2 points

* Check your visa requirements and Oman insurance coverage. * Omani drivers can be pretty wild. Be careful, keep distance, and do not provoke. * Keep an eye out for petrol stations and refuel in time.2 points

First of all have lot of fun, as its brilliant drive and I'm waiting since few years to repeat again without any luck. Road and car safety tips for long road trip to Salalah: Check all fluids level constantly for few days prior to your trip, both before driving and after. Get all bushes, belts and hoses check from proper mechanic with expected remaining life. Carry the good size tool box, gloves, duct tape, mseal, cable ties, tie-down straps for safety. Inflate all tires at 35 when fully warmed up, means start with 32 and check after an hour to top up. Stop every 150-200 kms at every fuel station for 15 mins to check and rest yourself and car. Refuel at every gas station spaced roughly 200 kms away to avoid no-show in next station. Avoid high speed for long hours, keep it at 120-140 is good for engine and fuel efficiency. Take 8-10 hours sleep in advance for 3 consecutive day prior if you are planning to drive in one shot. Don't eat full stomach meal, you will fall sleep, no matter how much you were rested before. If you feel sleepy, pull over far away in barren land (either side) and take a nap, than pushing. Start at night so that you can reach Salalah before it get dark, as driving in night is bit risky as incoming traffic blinds you very much on one-way road. Starting from Dubai at night till Muscat is good well lit road, so you will hit that one-way road during daytime.2 points

A little too early to be drinking grandpa's cough medicine1 point

This is actually not advisable. Atleast 2 ppl should be there. The journey is really really long and at times especially during summer, boring. In those 30mins break which you will take make sure do some light exercise to free up your muscles. Make sure atleast one of your friend keeps talking to you, like constantly! . Dont let everyone sleep and you are the only one driving. Especially the passenger next to you should not sleep. There are speed cameras randomly placed so as Gaurav said please dont exceed 140 its not going to make any difference in reaching early. Once you reach that place all your stress will just disappear in thin air. So enjoy the ride and drive safe. True that. Omani drivers are the most hospitable people. No matter which expensive car they are driving they will always stop and ask if your stuck in the mountains or wadis. They will always offer tea if they are camping next to you in the wadis. I have traveled across mountains and wadis in Oman and have really experienced their hospitality first hand.1 point

Yes originally, but im in UAE since few year now. Not really, Omani are very cool and welcoming but yes you are right for young drivers. That's same everywhere.1 point

you know how search goes man, you start with recovery point, you end up with bumpers and skid plates and LEDs and tents and camping, and travel destinations... it's painful but i saw all sort of weird shapes, i don't even know if they fit in my car, the best thing to do is just search around in shops, do "window shopping" see what they do, what they have, get an idea of the cost.1 point

Have you tried with low gear. My Cherokee was not climbing than @shadow79 made some phone calls to his friends with Cherokee. They said low gear is the key. After low gear i was on the top.1 point

We can make rocket fuel from green tea no problem. Just add some sugar and yeast. Hack a pressure cooker to build a distillation chamber. Fun fact - The Nazi V2 rockets ran on homemade alcohol. More people died making the rockets than the rockets actually killed. The people making the rockets used to steal the alcohol to get drunk. It was a 70% pure alcohol mix. More people got drunk and died from alcohol poisoning than the rockets ever killed. Most of the employees got fired for stealing alcohol. This is why the V2 program ended Fun fact 2 - the nasa engineers who sent the first people to the moon were kidnapped German engineers fun fact 3 - the people who developed the atom bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were kidnapped German engineers1 point

Thank you @Gaurav i will be there at 10:30pm. I am sure , I will enjoy the ride)1 point

I seriously doubt that. Possibly the sand is very soft due to no traffic in that area. Give it a bit time till winter and most likely you should have the power to do it. 😁1 point

I have repaired a big hole puncture with this kit in less than 10 mins in offroad and then continue using that tire for 2 years. This exactly how puncture shop repair the puncture. These little strings are literally magical to stop leak after you wet them.1 point

Look into this and learn how to use it https://www.amazon.ae/Bike-tubeless-Tire-Repair-Puncture/dp/B07MCVN1ZP/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=tyre+repair+kit&qid=1565106054&s=gateway&sprefix=tyre+repai&sr=8-2 It’s cheap and it does work but you need a way to inflate the tyre. Plenty of “premium” garages in Dubai using this.1 point

WD40 is a lubricant, it’s not a penetrating oil. If you’re looking for penetrating oil in a can, Plus Gas is the best but I’ve never seen it for sale in uae. WD40 is good for squeaky hinges and making plastics shine temporarily but as a penetrating oil it’s useless.1 point

They even sell them with the bridle for the path finders. https://www.the4wdshed.com/recovery-tow-points-shackles-equaliser-strap-kit-nissan-navara-d40-roadsafe4wd?preview=y I am sure there are shops that can fabricate something like that1 point

If you recently bought this, which I think you must have after your recent civic purchase, just go to the shop and complain. If it's old then DIY debugging is a good idea. Which brand is that, share some model info so we can dig into it.1 point

@Frederic it's a plug and play device. The end connection is similar to a desktop VGA cable end, but only wider with more pins. I will try to send the diagram for you to have a look.1 point
-
Can you share some details on the unit itself ? Was the wiring done properly ? I mean soldered and not just twisted into each other ? Or is this a plug and play thingy ? Maybe the unit is sending out a distorted signal (too loud) for the headunit and this input goes into safety.1 point
