  1. Trip Report - A nice crisp cool morning. I got a bit delayed to reach the meeting point due to one of the roads being closed. By the time I reached the briefing was almost done and we quickly headed to the deflation point. Here after deflation we were given our convoy numbering. The first part was newbie and @Srikumar has matured into a fine leader who can create a smooth path through a very difficult terrain. @Atif being in second lead is also growing into the role and manages the position with utmost ease. As @Amit0103 pointed out I was strategically placed behind him, but my eyes were glued at @Halit Mert Issever as he enjoyed fish tailing at every possible opportunity. Followed by @Julien V, @AKR, @Xaf and @Brette. Good to see @Brette stepping up to the sweeper position with @Xaf to help. Before we knew it we were at the base of Pink Rocks. The main time spent was the traffic on top. Everybody managed well. At this point we were in search for a shaded area to start our breakfast. We found a nice spot to settle and breakfast was amazing but not as amazing as the stories exchanged. While having breakfast there was still an itch to continue. @Srikumar made an awesome decision to continue at Fewbie level. It was good sporting decision for @Amit0103 and @Navinchandar to continue as passengers. This was a fast paced and wonderful part of the drive enjoyed by all. Although I feel that criss crossing over broad dunes @Halit Mert Issever and @Xaf were turning 90 degrees to go over, but it was their first drive at this level and would like to see them improve on this point. The second part of the drive was fast and we almost conquered Big Red, but due to time constraint we had to exit. All in all a brilliant drive divided in 2 parts and enjoyed by all.

  4. Dont be scared to try doing it your self. I have done it on a few of my cars of the years. 1. Wet sand with 2000 grit sand paper till all the discoloration is gone. Let dry for 10 minutes or start doing the other side. 2. Once dry, wet sand with 3000 grit or higher to get the smooth glossy finish. Let dry for 15 mins. 3. Wax with any car wax and maintain it. The next time u notice it getting yellow, go straight to the 3000 grit sandpaper and buff immediately and wax. We have the long weekend coming up. Give it a shot. All the best.

  6. Here everyone uses pickups for everything from dune bashing at the coast to farm work everywhere else, including the coastal areas. Nobody here uses SUV:s for anything other than blocking peoples' view in parking lots.

  7. For an engineer, put it on B4 sheet of paper with the electrical wiring to the headlight and all the dimensions possible and then put down the steps to sand the headlight.. he will figure out how to do it. 😂

  8. I was going to say the same but for someone's whose been procrastinating about getting it done by someone else for over a month doubt he'll do it himself. I have a friend like this and he's supposed to be an engineer but won't change a fuse himself, too much self doubt. Forget that he once changed the car battery by someone rather than jumpstart it. Reason: oh man you never know these new cars, something might get screwed up! So 90% of the times I end up doing small jobs on his car

  15. Hi there. Will take delivery of an bn oldish swb wrangler on weds. My 4x4 experience is almost 100% in mud, not sand and quite a long time ago. I did courses and had a swb patrol. The car has hooks on both ends. But I don't have other equipment yet (boards, big jack) Is it ok to join?

  16. @Wrangeld welcome to Carnity Off-road Club. Few questions: 1. Which 4x4 do you drive? 2. Have you had any previous off-road experience? 3. Does your 4x4 have front and rear tow hooks?

  18. While this SUV is not quite as ugly as some competitors', it is way to shiny for my tastes. In fact, for me it is so glitzy that it looks cheap.Sort of like someone was trying to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear. I think that when it comes to vehicles in this class, the less glitz, glam, and chrome there is, the better. Mind you, some pimps and drug smugglers might disagree with me.

  21. Thanks. Any other recommended service provider in Sharjah or nearby Dubai areas who could do the job? I have seen some cobone and groupon deals doing it for AED 40/- but the location of garages are far ahead for a person living in Sharjah.

  22. Yes Dune Bashing habibiti. How do you think I learnt to drive in the dunes. After work was done at the camp I would sneak out for a personal desert Safari Everytime. P.S : I don't have to ask the elementary question because I was the one doing the "dune bashing" . My favorite pick up as in most fun to drive and not ability wise was the Hilux double cabin 4x4. But it was capable enough get over some steep and moderately high dunes. Only thing you had to hold the gear in place outher wise when you pushed it would skip into neutral and gear knob would rap you hard on your knee You really need to open your mind beyond your anecdotal experiences you might have experienced while weekend warrior-ing over the past decade or so.

  23. I don't see why stock patrol pickup will not perform well. It has very nice powerful engine combined with nice gearbox(manual or auto) it is not huge like American crew cabin pickups. Dimension between tires little longer than a xterra. It has amazing ground clearance.

  24. This is how exactly legend stories are formed, as one guy saw stage III modified Patrol or LC 100 over the dunes doing wonders and he go to dubizzle to buy one and start crying after month of real struggle with stock vehicle "INCAPABILITY" or not meeting his expectation vs what he has seeing on that stage III modified version with triple the cost of stock vehicle. I have been fooled 2 times, same way. People use Patrol or LC shell not because they are capable but they are spacious to accommodate LS small block V8 engine or Lexus V8 with twin turbo or supercharger setup. Each build cost in range of 50-80K excluding the stock vehicle cost. @Javier M I agree these modern pickups are comfy and powerful but they are mostly found in Sweihan or Liwa type of terrain - ultra broad and tall dune range, keeping whale body in check on every dune is not fun. I have 3 friends with pickup and when they drive, they hardly cross any dune or crest, instead keep making a track sideways, criss crossing only.

  25. Once when we were Sweihan(as Carnity), we had a break top of the dune. I saw locals are coming and playing catch me if you can game with their patrols. Lots of pickup patrol also was there. I saw them climbing the tallest dune and crossing the other side without showing any hesitation. This was 2 years ago. That day i fell in love with patrol pickup. It is so sad, to be able to buy one i have to have a company. https://www.patrol4x4.com/threads/adashos-2015-y61-4-8-pickup-in-dubai.266193/

  26. I meant for dune bashing and not desert driving. Going back to elementary question: Ask yourself how many times you have seen pickup doing dune bashing - less than 5 out of 100. We have seen usually LC and Nissan pickup doing the farm work in the desert.

  27. So Patrol pickup not meant for desert 😮

  28. I dune bashed a Toyota Pickup truck all over the place and since we actually used the pick-up for it's intended purpose so it was mostly loaded close to capacity and few times over capacity. Like a 2 ton CAT diesel generator that would barely fit in the bed with the tail gate open.

  30. This guy known for doing things differently and I like the most in this truck: 1) Paintless, dent and scratches proof body, why others aren't thinking same way. 2) Inbuilt ramp for quad is simply genius. 3) Independent control suspension height. 4) Design is totally unique from today sheeps world. Not sure I like this yet, as I feel some minor detailing are still missing, but overall different design is great. 5) I dont care about bullet proof glass, instead I prefer breakable and removable glass for escaping from emergencies especially offroad related accidents or fire scenarios.

  31. Team ! let me start with a BIG thank you to all of you ! this was my 2nd new bee trip this Friday and the first one as a driver- the last one – I was a silent spectator and an accompanied driver with @Navinchandar – thanks to him that I gathered the courage to get my car (without the insurance- it should have) – the excitement and the energy I felt in the first gathering was more enough to get me going and wake up this Friday for the drive ! I would like to share my experience as a new comer and my reflections on my learnings and observations from the day- Warmth and Friendly Welcome:- this group has tremendous warmth and welcome and not even a single person I met (first time and this time) who is not welcoming and not an amazing support to the new members ! so guys – 3 cheers to all of you for being so good ! @Rahimdad - that big hug is surely a big warm welcome ;) Amazing patience from all other seniors for the briefing and waiting it to finish for the new bee:- I would like to highlight this point really- as I saw how the whole group listening to the detailed briefing to me given by @Srikumarand the expert comments from everyone- till they all felt that I have been briefed extensively well and was mentally ready for the first drive with them. Small and important tips from seniors and @Atif bhai – on 2nd lead – this was informative as I learnt that though the 1st commander and his leads are important in the convoy- its also important for everyone to keep an eye on the 2nd lead and they shared the right reasons for the same – which made perfect sense for a new bee like me ! Right sequence of the convoy- to ‘protect’ the new bee – The sequence of the convoy was strategically placed – keeping in mind – me and my car are protected and are covered from any possible danger as the first time driver- I was placed at the 3rd position just after @dri and @atif bhai and was followed by the most experienced person in the group @Rahimdad – thanks to all of you for making me feel so safe and protected from the very start ! really appreciate ! Amazing leadership – for @Srikumar and @Rahimdad – Guys- I am sure you know this and have noticed but these 2 gentleman are amazing leaders and gives you goosebumps with everything they do ! from planning to being there for you and from engagement to helping you out in any situation and from guiding and taking the first risk on themselves and encouraging you to do your best and push yourself and the limits we have in our mind and making us believe- “we can do it” – big applause to both of you and others too ! Things to note and learn from @Srikumar- Looking at the new routes which are full of fun and adrenaline rush Keeping an eye on the new bee - he actually was driving as a lead- and making sure i 'follow the tracks in the right way' Keeping an eye on the ‘other adventurous groups’ that may be a potential disruptor on our way! giving a heads up warning to all of us Driving himself a manual along with talking on the radio! Wow ! what an amazing coordination and leadership skills – hawk eyes ! @Rahimdad – Thanks for taking us to the next spots ‘the big red’ and not letting me drive right now - really appreciate- It was amazing to learn about the start of the journey and how did this group came to this point – I really enjoyed learning the history of carnity and the group’s accomplishments ! Your insights and amazing tips – learnt a lot from you in that an hour ! first hand experience of sitting beside a legendary driver – priceless !! Playing and also keeping an eye on everyone- Making sure everyone is with the convoy and well taken care of People do got stuck and everyone came over to help each other ! We played and some of us played more and extra ;) and when we got stuck – even in less than a few minutes- we saw people coming and helping you out to take you out of the situations- saw how to use a shovel ;) and how do we tow away a car- just saw and did not participate as I really didn’t know what to do in those situations ! but next time- if need be- I will ! Breakfast !- another best part- @Atif bhai – getting the ‘karark chai’ for everyone ! that early morning ! hats off ! that was super needed during the break And yes no one can forget the aaloo paranthas and the love behind and how its been served ! thanks @Rahimdad – Plus super good snacks from everyone else, the nutrella roles- thanks ! Stories over chai’s and snacks -Also @mert – thanks for sharing your experience in bumping up with me and @navin in our office and marking you during your serious presentation ;) it was pleasantly surprising to see and meet you 3rd time in less than a week ;) a small world for sure And yes, to all their contributions and sharing more about different markets in Sharjah and where to find what ! Plus ‘the washing machine’ and the lassi (sweet laban) stories- All those who missed- we can surely ask the group to repeat ;) @gaurav- missed meeting you in person- but we will catch up soon I hope- at one point we thought you were there in the same dunes but with another group ;) there was someone just like you – that the group thought it was you ! you must have got some hikups while we were talking about you (all good things for sure) ;) Photos and videos:- PS:-As new enthusiastic- and as everything is new to me and anything I see for the first time- I grab my phone and start taking photos and videos – I took some photos ! and these are not to mark anyone or any situation- but if any of you feel I should not upload these- I will delete them from my phone and here-

  32. I worked in a scrapyard in Ireland for 5 years and 99% of the time never had a problem with used parts as long as they were stored properly. One of the biggest problems is people like to complain when things go wrong but when things go right, you rarely hear anything. When it comes to things like electrical parts, I would rather have used genuine parts than no name new parts. At least you know what you’re getting. Here’s another way to look at it. When people ask me if it’s ok to use used parts, I tell them every part on your car is used and it’s still working. However, I’ve been in plenty of scrapyards in uae and see how some of the guys work, so it’s understandable not to have any faith in them.

  33. You will need different grades of sand paper and go through some youtube videos out there e.g https://youtu.be/UG54xt56uZo I believe Ace has some restoration material too: https://www.aceuae.com/en-AE/quixx-headlight-restoration-kit-lens-sealer-30-ml/1261179.html I recently used Toyota’s own material that I had lying around for slight yellowing and it did a fair job. A proper job would definitely require abrasives and them some thing to bring back the transparency. @Rahimdad bhais solution of toothpaste is of course the most economical and cheap. ( Also can be used to remove the tea/coffee/ karak chai stains if used on ones teeth 😂).
