  1. With so many nationalities in Carnity, i thought it would be nice to share 1 single defining picture of your hometown or area. I will start with sharing a nice photo a friend of mine took a few days back. Country: Belgium City: Merelbeke Description: The river "Scheldt". The Scheldt is a 350-kilometre long river in northern France, western Belgium, and the southwestern part of the Netherlands.

  2. Nice topic Fred. Here is one of my favorite place from Delhi, purely because of its magnificent beauty, detailing and grandeur. Country: India City: New Delhi Description: The Lotus Temple, located in Delhi, India, is a Baháʼí House of Worship that was dedicated in December 1986. Notable for its flowerlike shape, it has become a prominent attraction in the city. Like all Baháʼí Houses of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open to all, regardless of religion or any other qualification.

  4. Trip report from my eyes. Firstly I was really looking forward to this drive as Sweihan visit was long due for me. The second thing that got me excited was @Asif Hussain got in touch with me to join along which is always a pleasure. I left on time from home and reached the nearby Masjid in good time to offer my Friday prayers. It took me exactly 3 minutes to reach our hero @Emmanuel who was about to take us through the thrilling sands of Sweihan. Everyone soon joined us with @Xaf, @Fuad and @Shamilto head off to the wilderness. On the way we dropped @Asif Hussain car on the way and he finally joined me for what was going to be a brilliant day out. After a very short but useful briefing and deflation we set off in the dunes. For most of the parts it was fairly clean and we had a few virgin dunes. The thing that excites me about this place is although you have long range clean dunes which you feel you can play in forever, it does come with a word of caution as the sand formation here is very much different compared to the dunes in the sand box. Just when you think you have a nice firm patch you will come across a soft one, and sometime what looks like a soft patch turns out to be hard. Since the drivers were very capable we hardly had any down time, except for a pop-out for @Xaf, but thanks to @Shamil and @Emmanuel we were able to fix the pop-out within no time. The only other stoppage I remember came when @Fuad Pathfinder would not race, but he knew exactly where the problem was and again with @Shamil offering help through his toolbox and @Asif Hussain cleverly using the available tools we were moving within no time at all. So a big hand to all who kept the convoy moving at a good pace. The only stuck we had was a third party driving a Nissan Patrol who did not believe in deflating. Funny response as I asked him about deflation and his reply was but they are balloon tires. @Emmanuel was gracious to lend his rope to them as the other truck guy jerked the life out of the Patrol to get it out and moving again, in this episode I feel sorry for the rope. The place was full of Nissan Patrols flying around with a few Land Cruisers and the raped up dunes around made us feel it was not for us. As we moved from there we had a sharp decline and 4 Low 1st gear was our call for the moment. As everyone headed down my passenger had gone missing and after shouting around like a fool for @Asif Hussain I was informed that he had snooped the ride down with another car. As I made my way down it was time to head out as the sun was going down, we again came through a nice patch of dunes however the sun at this time was in our eyes making the dunes difficult to read. As we sat around with the snacks and 3 different flavours of tea, we were spoilt for choice by the many selection of food and drinks. As we finished and packed up to leave we headed out, @Fuad was the happiest from the bunch as he was closest to his place. After inflation we set off, however I got a bit lost and thanks to @Asif Hussain sense of direction and reading the map well we ended up driving a long stretch of a gauge road before seeing signs of the tarmac. One on the road I dropped @Asif Hussain to his car with a last cup of tea we promised to meet each other soon and parted our ways. Many thanks to @Emmanuel for a fantastic day out.

  6. Country - Ireland Town - Glenullin I live outside the village, totally different lifestyle from Dubai. Peace and quiet, hunting, fishing, hiking in the mountains. Still have the house and farm there. Been thinking about going back but once you see some of the world and realize there's a lot more to explore, it makes it difficult.

  7. I would like to invite all Intermediates and above to do something different and do a fast pace trip from Maleha to Faya. We will start from the newbie area in Maleha and continue our way to Faya and go back to Fossil Rock. This will allow us to go back to basics and practice in a wide range of dunes. We will explore and alternate between side sloping and basic ridge crossing techniques and enjoy whatever this area has to offer in a fast pace. Depending on the pace and progress we will exit at Faya road or exit at fossil rock. This drive is for Intermediate and above level only. Please check if you have all required tools and gear on board as per your assigned drive level. When: 03 January 2020, Friday Meeting time: 06:45 AM, the convoy will move sharply at 07:00 AM Where: ADNOC Service station GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/b3tDGLrAcs1AhxYa9 Level of drive: Intermediate and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive and enjoy until about 11:30 AM, with some small breaks in between to have breakfast and snacks. What to bring along: Some snacks, plenty of water - whatever you like with little extra to share, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

  8. Thank you so much @Rahimdad ! I was working on my report, but you already said everything 😀, and in a much more proper English than mine! What can I add? ... That @Shamil was my second lead, thank you buddy, followed by @Fuad, then @Xaf (with his sister who we were pleased to meet), then @Rahimdad in sweep. I had decided to follow backwards the route we had done two months ago, on 18th Oct, which means to enter near Al Ain Dairy Nahil Farms and exit SW, at Yahar high dunes spot. The only disadvantage for this option, as you rightly pointed Rahim, was that we got the afternoon sun hitting directly our windhsields and dazzling at some points. I must admit that I didn’t think about this tiny but quite anoying detail… ... That it had been quite a while since last time we saw FUAD driving. And because he was the only fewbie to join that day, we started at a moderate pace, but soon we noted that he wasn’t struggling at all, which allowed us to inscrease the pace. This positive impression was confirmed when we stopped at our first playing spot. There we saw a totally different driver than the one we saw last year. Well done Fuad ! ... That all the other drivers also managed absolutely well. No stuck at all, only a few refusals. Xaf's pop out was fixed in 5 minutes and we only took a short break to clean the MAF sensor of Fuad’s Pathfinder. Other than that, convoy was always on the move… Thank you all !

  9. May be: till reaching top seems nice, afterwards while side sloping, in absence of enough speed and efforts to fight with gravity cause this happened. He could have been move his steering wheel towards left /gravity to help his car move towards gravity & avoid such incidents!!

  10. Somehow it didn't seem like the engine died. He was definitely loosing momentum and he made the mistake of trying to steer up again and that was the final nail in the coffin If the engine did stall then I would say that it's a case of sheer bad luck to happen with no prior indication

  11. Horrible accident. Looking at the dune formation I have the impression he ended up in a very soft patch or indeed stalled as he lost momentum in a split second.

  12. I had the pickup version of this. It’s scary sitting so close the windscreen knowing if you have an accident, you ARE the crumple zone. Ended up selling it to a loony who put a hayabusa engine in it.

  14. It's difficult to do that in a dealership because everything is supposed to be done in the time frame according to the service manual, next thing you know you have a compliance manager breathing down your neck. It's more to do with protecting processes before they have been released to the general public. That's the official answer. The unofficial answer is that the mechanic went for McDonalds breakfast menu when he was test driving your car.

  17. To start off the New Year, I would like to invite all Fewbies and above to explore the beautiful area of Murquab - Lisaili. This area has a nice mix of medium tall dunes and smaller technical areas that will definitely keep you on your toes. We will explore and alternate between side sloping and basic ridge crossing techniques, and enjoy whatever this area has to offer. Depending on the pace and progress we will either head off towards the Maktoum Solar area or Qudra Lakes. This drive is for Fewbie and above level only. 25. I like the idea of recording all the time in case someone hits you in the parking lot. One thing to be aware of is some mechanics will disconnect the camera when the car is in the shop. When I was in a dealership it was company policy to disconnect them for privacy purposes.

  26. Sheesh such long theories as if the boson god particle is being discussed here. Guy was first of all was a fool doing sideys in a fully loaded pickup second the guy simply miscalculated the terrain by the time he realized it. It was too late, happens to the best of us/them. I have driven through some tricky terrain with a loaded pickup but only because I had to and that was the only way all my fooling around was done with an empty bed.

  27. Oh yes indeed. Been in hot garages with no AC for the last 4 years where it’s like being in an oven. Give me icy weather any day. At least if you’re cold you can put more clothes on. If you’re too hot there’s nothing you can do but lie down and pray for winter. @Emmanuel I used to keep Charolais bulls for breeding. Thank you for your service sir

  38. I've driven a few of the original Fastracs when I worked in a JCB dealer. Doing 60 MPH in a tractor is pretty unsettling, I can't imagine what 150 would feel like. The original high speed test for the Fastrac 2 was done by TV star and IOM TT racer Guy Martin. He has recently been in a lot of trouble in the UK for license issues. Apparently he got a fake driving license in Ireland, then got it transferred to a genuine UK license. Whole big hoo has about it at the minute. There used to be a loophole with these in the UK. To drive a lorry and low loader trailer you have to be 21 but you can drive a tractor and trailer at 16 without doing a test. So there was 16 year old redneck farmers legally driving round pulling 20-30 tonnes with essentially no license. I think the loophole has been closed now but it was a pretty crazy thing.

Lets start the new year with an Absolute Newbie Drive in the Pink Rock area that offers perfect opportunity to learn. The area is famous for very safe and easy tracks to medium rolling dunes. Look forward for an easy relaxing drive for everyone with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow, hill climb, and ridge riding. Absolute Newbies and Newbies will have a great chance to see and learn the real fun that off-roading offers in a very safe and organized environment. When: 3 Jan 2020 Meeting time: 6:45 AM, the convoy will move at sharp 7:00 AM Where: Tawi Nazwa Shops GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/4U9z5Q9HdesX3UU59 Level: Absolute Newbie, Newbie, and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. 40. If you have an old Smartphone lying around the house, you can easily make a dash cam out of it too. I downloaded an app called Smart Dash Cam on IOS which I use to record our drives sometimes. It only starts recording when you are actually moving, and makes videoclips of 2-3 mins each that you can upload to your Google Drive or Dropbox. It can also record on impact. The only negative thing is that I have to remove the phone when the car is parked in the clear sun or high temperature. The problem with the very cheap dash-cams is the so-called 720 or 1080 quality which they like to put on the box, but when using it you will come to see that reading numberplates or more detailed data will be difficult to extract, which then basically makes it almost worthless to use.

  41. Few of my observations on this roll over: I think he didn't scouted the area before to do sidey or crossing attempting, as from the camera angle it was very clear to see the very soft sand pocket and slip face at the end. As he didn't anticipated that's why he slowed down in end and then with limited momentum he tried to climb the slip face and got bog down in soft sand to flip. If any one really wanted to be this adventurous then plan your exit before entering the dune and continue the momentum until you exit safely. And if encounter with soft patch like this give 200% throttle to test if you can cross, if not immediately steer down than waiting to see what gravity holds for you. His climbing speed and reaction time was very slow. He might not have deflated enough as many such LC and patrol pickup farm boi live in non-deflated or partial deflated (25 psi) mind set and when they do such crazy stuff and car sink in soft sand, they realize that but its too late. When car slowed down from 00:13-14 secs, I think he entered the soft patch as sand splash stopped at the same time. From there itself he should have exited or make second attempt with fully deflated tire and double the speed to ride and exit safely.
