  2. Dear fellow Adventirers In preparation for tomorrow's PM drive, the convoy will move in the following order: 2.@Kalahari in Second Lead, followed by 3. @Jolly Abraham 4. @Shiju Manuel 5. @Salarios 6. @Lucky sAm 7. @Wrangeld at Center Forward 8. @Anish S 9. @Chaitanya D 10. @Rinelle Sanaani 11. @Lorenzo Candelpergher 12. @Frederic in Sweep position Given this variety of situations, keeping in mind that ideally this wishes to be a relatively long drive (up to 60 Km), and considering that it's getting dark sooner, I would like to kindly ask all the drivers to ARRIVE AT THE DEFLATION POINT NO LATER THAN 4:15PM, AND BE READY TO LEAVE BY 4:30PM. We will drive communicating on Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). As already mentioned this wishes to be an exploratory drive of the Western Qudra Basin in the direction of Little Swehian, to the South-West. I have had the opportunity of scouting this area recently, and have found it to be made of a mix of terrains, in order of appearance: 1) sets of long range dunes, where navigation is somewhat easier, and some side-sloping and safe ridge cresting can be practiced, 2) some technical dunes (which we'll do our best to avoid, due to their tightness) which will slow the convoy down and will require to keep safe distances, and very careful driving, 3) several sabkhas, where we will be able to pick up our pace and finally, if we'll manage to get as far as Little Swehian, 4) challenging dune bowls, following long cordons, with relatively tight space in between, and some soft sand patches. We will try to use the easier terrain (sabkhas and sand tracks) as much as possible, to be able to spend more time in the longer range dunes, and possibly in Little Swehian. Nonetheless, no matter how much we try to make the drive approachable, this particular mix of terrains will require your full attention and concentration. I recommend those avid desert goers who will also enjoy a morning drive to PLEASE SLEEP, TAKE A NAP, REST, and come refreshed to the drive. Have a great end of the week, and see you all tomorrow.

  3. RSVP is now closed. See you everyone tomorrow at meeting point. Don’t miss the exit, as you might not be able to make a U-Turn before Al-Madam roundabout because of the works on E44 (I swear, it happened to me a few weeks back!) Convoy numbering: 1. Emmanuel (White XTerra) 2. Kalahari (Red XTerra) 3. Najeeb Mohammed (Grey FJ) 4. Febin Frederic (Orange Wrangler) 5. Rinelle Sanaani (Black Wrangler) 6. Xaf (White Land Cruiser) 7. TBone (Grey XTerra) 8. Colin Jordan (Red Wrangler) 9. Michael Sammy (White Pajero) 10. Brette (Black GC) Radio Chanel We will be using Carnity Channel #4 (446.081.25) so please turn on the radio when you arrive at the deflation point and we will do a radio check at that time and set up the convoy as per above numbering.

  5. THIS DRIVE IS NOW CLOSED Good Morning Al Lisali Adventurers @Lorenzo Candelpergher @Jolly Abraham @Yousef Alimadadi @RohanH @Shiju Manuel @asifk @marks @Nizam Deen @Mehmet Volga @Janarthan (apologies to @Jorge Stepniak Felippe - no more drop outs) @Rahimdad By this time tomorrow morning we should be home and exited from the dunes having conquered (to some degree or other) the route from Al Lisali to Al Qudra. All things being equal what should you expect from the drive, and what do you need to be prepared to get you mentally in tune with the drive. Firstly, here is the drive convoy. Please make sure that you know where you are supposed to be in the convoy, who should be in front and who should be behind. Most of the colors of the vehicles are set out in the convoy list. We will confirm these on the day. We will be using Carnity Radio Channel 2. Please switch on your radios once you reach the deflation point so we can all speak to each other. The deflation point is on the tarmac road around the camel track. We will drive onto the sand track to get entry to the dunes from there. The pre drive briefing will be given once everyone is deflated and with flags erected. Be prepared for criss crossing, ridge riding and side sloping. Get your mind attuned to the fact you will be doing this before you start driving because when you start doing this sort of stuff it often requires a leap of faith in yourself and your vehicle. Just remember, if a car in front managed this, so can you. Having said that, no one needs to do anything that they do not feel safe in doing. This is not about showing how brave we are, it’s about learning how to get through the obstacles in the sand safely and if you don’t feel it, don’t do it. There is no shame in taking a lower or different route. There is no shame in getting stuck or a refusal. In fact, the opposite. This is why your radio is the most essential piece of equipment to have to hand at all times. This is how you tell us there is a problem, that you need more explanation, that you need to step out of your car. If you don’t tell, we cannot know. In this gave, silence is assumed to be agreement. Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early tomorrow. Feel free, if you have any questions to post them here and we will do our best to answer. See you soon in the sand.

  9. Sorry to confuse you @Bhaskar. But I would rather go for a brand new SWB Pajero. Tried and tested for over plenty years. It's not going to cost you over AED 85k and will come with lot of freebies like first year insurance, Salik tag, free services and lots more. Go for brand new SWB Pajero. Great resale value as off-roaders are always searching for it. Another brand new car you can go for is Suzuki Vitara with 8 years unlimited warranty or the famous Jimny if that tickles your fancy. Sorry once again, but go for new.

  12. Ah yes the wonderful Salukis. I can proudly say that i am being owned by two of them. -Incredibly lazy during the day. - Incredibly fast once they get going. - Incredibly gentle, graceful, and often also goofy and playful in the case of my youngest Saluki, Reema.

  14. It's really difficult for me to understand how this problem came about. The vehicle went is for a radiator replacement, and now the PCM is not working? All I can say is that I have removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled many Jeep engines, radiators, and transmissions in my time, and never once have I either destroyed a PCM or any control module in the process, or found that some control module "just stopped working" after a repair. It just does not seem right or possible for the mechanic to claim that the PCM is now faulty after a simple radiator replacement, unless he purposely destroyed it, so if I were in the OP's position, I would sue the shit out of both the mechanic, and if he works for someone, his employer as well.

  16. RSVP IS NOW CLOSED I am blessed with such an amazing convoy again. With the amazing driving skills of @Melenany in second lead, the ever supporting center forward @Chaitanya D, and the skillfull recovery and sweeping duties of @Mels Wolf i am quite sure we will have lots of fun. The location pin is pointed on the road, but the deflation point is the gravel track the leads inwards (see red arrow below) You can easily drive inside and deflate once you're on that gravel track. After deflation we will head deeper into Al Qudra and go further south towards the Solar park, and eventually make a loop and drive back north to exit somewhere near Hamari well, which is only a few kilometers away from the Last Exit gas station. We will be using Carnity Channel #1, (446.00625 Mhz) so please turn on the radio when you arrive at the deflation point and we will do a radio check at that time and set up the convoy as per above numbering. Please take the COVID19 precautions seriously and stay in your vehicle, except during inflation and deflation where we are to keep enough distance inbetween the cars and not start gathering/socializing. See you tomorrow !

  20. Indeed. I don’t believe in killing something unless you’re going to eat it. Chasing it for fun is even worse. It’s tantamount to torture. Even then it should be killed humanely as possible. Even cockroaches I try to catch and put it outside. But, some people aren’t capable of empathy. It’s sad but that’s the way the world is.

  21. Nope I didn’t touch it but I would love to know the diagnostic process they followed to come to the conclusion that the PCM is faulty. Not saying it isn’t faulty but I would be even more interested to hear how this happened from a simple radiator change. My guess is that somehow or other the mechanic managed to short something out. Maybe working on the car with the ignition turned on and touched a metal tool somewhere it wasn’t supposed to touch. Who knows, it’s just speculation. @syed salman raza Any chance you could post a copy of the diagnostic report for us to analyse? Mechanic should have given you one. @Frederic that’s a good topic to discuss. I’ve heard a lot of different opinions from a lot of different welders on it. Some say it’s ok, some say you will fry the battery, some say even if you disconnect both battery terminals the PCM is still connected to the frame by a metal bolt so it will still get spiked. I’ve been working on cars for many years but I don’t like to make experiments with other peoples cars so I can’t answer to these different situations. One welder friend told me once to leave the battery connected and put a protection device on the battery terminals. I bought one and I’ve always done that and never had any issues welding on a car. But who knows, welding isn’t one of my strong points.

  22. We have something like this in Ireland called hare coursing. Release the hare then the dog chases it. The aim is for the dog to get in front of the hare and turn it in the opposite direction before the end of the field rather than catch it. Hares are endangered so it was outlawed a while back but there are still some people who do it using hares or rabbits or whatever they can snare, the same kind of people who still do cock fighting. They mostly use Irish Lurcher dogs. They’re like a cold weather version of Salukis. Same temperament, similar shape but a bit beefier and a bit hairier.
