  1. Dear Desertnauts. Let's get ready for tomorrow's drive. This will be the convoy order: @Federico Galbieri will retain his #2 spot, from our pervious drive @Kaile Barrameda will follow at #3 @GauravSoni will be at #4 @sri ganesh in spot #5 @Pickey Singh will occupy the #6 spot @Federico De Chirico will be the #7 @Sandeep Padhi will be at #8 @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ will take place at #9 @Aravind Padmaraju will drive with #10 @Ahab Shamaa will be #10 @Malachy McGrogan will follow at #12, and @Foxtrot Oscar will Sweep at #13. A few notes about the meeting time and place. Please remember that from tomorrow we'll start meeting at 6:00 AM. Nonetheless, please try to be punctual or even a little early, as we'd like to start the drive as soon as possible (the sun will rise at 6:35, so it would be great if we were able to move as the sun comes up, or even earlier). The meeting and deflation point will be just off the tarmac road. Please make sure NOT TO REACH FAQA TOWN, but to TAKE THE EXIT BEFORE FAQA: it's marked, on the map, and consists in a road veering to the right of the tarmac a few Km before Faqa town, going through a fenced gate, and continuing through some dunes first then a sabkha area. Once you reach the meeting point, please tune into Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). Tomorrow's drive will take place in a slightly less used area for Newbies. Nonetheless, the nature of the northern sector of Faqa, with waves of long range, relatively open dunes, allows for safe travel also by Newbies in search for a bit of a challenge. Hence, this will be a Newbie outing with the chance to taste, in a safe and controlled manner, some of the challenges to come once achieved a higher rank. It will provide the convoy with ample opportunities to practice low side slopes, riding on smooth, wide ridges, and straight crossing low dunes, honing one's off-roading skills, especially in the areas of finesse and control. We feel confident that it can be a nice and intriguing drive: follow instructions carefully and calmly, and stay concentrated, to find the perfect feeling between yourselves, your car and the terrain we'll drive in. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning for a leisurely and pleasant drive.

  3. Ok @Gaurav, @Nivin, @Rahimdad, @Mohamed Seidam, @Jihad Hachem and @luwaimn, Yokohama Geolandar G015s are finally on! I am pleased to report that they're much, much quieter than my old BFGs. I bought them online and had them installed at an affiliated shop. So now that the tires are out of the way, can I expect never to get stuck in the sand again? 😂 When I was younger, white tennis shoes made me run faster 🤣

  8. @Ahab Shamaa none of us would remember everything until we started to preach it. Now it's part of our DNA. We didn't by heart everything overnight, but little by little. That's why we have a grading structure and feed it to you little by little so that at each level you can learn and perfect your skill. As you come closer to becoming one of the senior members, you'll be the one preaching and someone will be telling you it's difficult to remember everything. 😇 @Mohamed Seidam brother. Great video to post, but a lot to learn from here also. Fighting gravity is part of our hobby. When we are side slopping we are defying and fighting gravity as it gives us the thrill. But more importantly as you grow in the sport you'll realize there are areas where we have no choice but to defy every logic in the book. When we go to Liwa for instance we have to defy gravity through narrow nooks and corners and stay aware throughout as any lapse in concentration can be disastrous. Everything we learn at any level is important to use in future whenever you're faced with any situation. @Gaurav bhai is testament to the Pajero bowl in Wagan which comes with a one way ticket unless you're ready to give gravity a nasty fight. Still it could take the whole of your winch and 4 ropes to pull you out of it. The video just posted by you is not about fighting gravity, that was the manoeuvre he was trying, due to sand you can't see much, but the revving of the engine stops just before you see the dust settle and FJ flip. I can think of 3 reasons why it happened. 1) the driver got scared and let go of the accelerator. 2) the drivers foot slipped from the accelerator pedal. 3) the engine stalled. I would put down all 3 as driver's mistake. Don't be scared, stay calm and steer down if in doubt. Wear proper foot wear for your foot not to slip off the pedals. Keep your ride in good shape, it's your responsibility. off-roading is an extreme sport and thus gives us a lot of thrills and joy. From our side we should be strong in our basic skills required for this sport and keep our rides in good nick.

  9. @Nitin Mohan @Vinojps @Arshad Roojee @Shyam Karat @Nathan Evans @Luca Bregni @Vijaysekhar @Prabuddha Madusanka @bassel el rafei @Atif @belal hadi As we are less than 24 hours from the start of the drive, here is a brief of what we plan to do tomorrow: PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 6:00 AM sharp. A little early would be better. If you are late, you would be left behind. 2) The senior members on the drive are me and @Vanessa8580 3) We will be using Carnity Channel 4 tomorrow. (446.08125 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post. Please ensure that you have a fully charged and programmed radio before the drive. We are not carrying spare radios for this drive. 4) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. If it requires pulling the fuse, please do the needful. Incase of any queries you can always ask the senior members before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 5) Please ensure you have a flag, pressure gauge, deflator and a radio as a minimum. If you have a compressor, it would be excellent as currently the air compressor at the last Exit (ADNOC) is not functioning. You would then have to borrow a compressor from someone or alternatively drive down to ENOC gas station which is about 15 kms away on deflated tyres. 6) For highway tyres you can deflate to 15 psi. Those who have AT tyres, you can deflate to 13 psi. 7) Feel free to ask questions at any time. 😎 Convoy Numbering will be posted after 7 pm today evening. We shall be starting the drive from the South Qudra side from where we would be entering the long range dunes. We will be driving for about 3.5 hours practicing driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle more familiarized with the desert. By 10:00 am we will be heading out towards the Qudra parking.

  10. Get it checked with a reliable mechanic, saves you a lot of hassle later. Just the regular stuff you can do yourself 1. Check on rta website for any accidents 2. Make sure its GCC 3. Some tell tale signs of off road abuse by earlier owner - bumper cuts, suspension mods, removing the side step, rear boot inner handle break, rear boot railings will be bent, front /rear tow hooks will be bent or not stock, stock GCC comes with only right front tow hook and no holes in chassis on left side, sand on the dash panel inside the viewing glass, sand in the air dam, ABS kill switch, engine excessively tilting when you revv, AT tyres , absent mud flaps...etc. avoid such cars as they will need some proper service ( which will be major one!) Good luck! Price for a 2lac run car would be around 20k, or around. It's a buyer's market!

  13. Hello @Hardik Mody If it’s stock the better ( clues of off road abuse as @Chaitanya D advised earlier ) At 200k km check for the timing chain ( it’s chain and not belt in X ) when was replaced . If not then might need replacement. As well as engine and gear mounts. ( during full bumper to bumper check in reliable mechanic can tell ) GCC species , as non GCC in most insurance companies won’t be fully insured not mentioning the offroad cover. as for price this is variable and negotiable depending on the market and seller respectively . best wishes cheers

  15. I suggest if you can buy the camel brand double compressor that is around 300-350 Aed it is better. It should be available in Dragon Mall. Smaller compressors take much longer to inflate and will heat up quicker.

  19. @Mohamed Seidam thank you for a great share. Since this does not happen to everyone every week and is a rare instance it would be difficult to remember the brace position. However what's most important is to stay compact and not spread out your arms and legs and switch off the engine at the earliest. I would like to go through this video every week before the drive so I can remember most of the points.

  31. @Ahab Shamaa any advice coming from @Rahimdad is gold. His experience, and the fact that he can do virtually anything with a very regular car (no disrespect is meant) shows you how it's always the driver's choice to make the difference. In the case of the almost roll-over, no amount of power, no super high clearance, no other fancy mod, would have saved the driver. It was just his luck that the car didn't roll. Going back to Rahim bhai's advise, if the Pajero had approached from a wider/higher angle, and had stayed higher on the slope, he would have gained/kept the momentum (why do you think parabolic curves aid drivers in race tracks?), and gravity would not have taken over. Having failed that, of course, his capital sin was fighting gravity (he should have gone down the slope to his left, and re-attampted). This weekend be ready to put Rahimdad's suggestions to good use. There'll plenty of slopes to ride slopes, and plenty of opportunities to climb them, or to make a safe exit, rather than fighting a losing uphill battle.

  32. So @Rahimdad, is it a rule to follow “drive higher on the ridge of the dune”? Maybe we can have @Ale Vallecchi illustrate how to do that this coming Friday or Saturday with his toy car. My first drive with Ale, he used a toy car and a made-up sand dune, to explain to the group what he wanted us to do. Low and behold, things just sunk in for me. I have to visualize things to understand them I guess 😀

  33. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. 42. Dear Absolute Newbies, @ALI ALMOUMAR @Irshad Alam @varunmehndiratta @Explored Dubai @Vrinda Muttiyil @Arman @Hisham Masaad @HAZEM.Ali @Ken Hüüdma I just added the following to the drive announcement for the drive on Friday. WE STRONGLY ADVISE THAT YOU BRING YOUR OWN COMPRESSOR ON THIS DRIVE. A COMPRESSOR IS AVIALABLE AT THE END POINT OF THE DRIVE AT THE ADNOC BUT IS SLOW AND UNRELIABLE. THE NEAREST EFFICIENT COMPRESSOR AT A GAS STATION IS 17 KM AWAY FROM OUR END POINT. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND. IF YOU INTEND DRIVING REGULARLY IN THE DESERT A COMPRESSOR IS AN ESSENTIAL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. ALL TOW POINTS WILL BE CHECKED BEFORE DEPARTURE. The point is, a compressor is not compulsory, but will save you a lot of time at the finish point after the drive. It is your choice if you invest in a compressor; after all you do not know yet if you will fall in love with 4x4 in the desert. Any questions, please let me know
