It was really wonderful to be a part of the group learning to negotiate the desert. Thought I knew how to drive but today my skills were upgraded to start trying the loose sand as always I was driving on Tarmac. All the time after having the XTERRA I look at sand dunes and wished to ride up them but was wary without having some guidance and to tell the truth I got some very valuable guidance today. @sertac was very helpful and I really love the way he rescued me in times of need. Hopefully once I finish the full course will drive with him and @Frederic in the desert off to glorious sun rises and sunsets. The rest of the team I wish them good luck and hope to meet them in the next drives and learn dune bashing with them together.

Thank you @Brette and @Foxtrot Oscar for an excellent drive taking us from Murquab to solar park. Having driven around Sharjah area for a few weeks, this was a real treat in terms of scenery and driving techniques. @Ahab Shamaa am happy that @Foxtrot Oscar and I had a nice influence on your daughter 😊. It's been @Rahimdad 's dream to have a ladies convoy and it does indeed make us proud to be at least close to that😉. Cheers to the whole team..👍 Enjoy the week guys and see you soon..

Dear All This was a great fewbie drive - one of the best I ever had with great planning for ridge riding and crisscrossing - @Pancho you made our ride very amazing @Chaitanya D you really payed a very important role here supporting everyone in this ride, when you put your lights on you changed the desert to noon time again - and the spices of technical dune crossing at the end of the ride to reach our exit was really amazing @Janarthan your major role as center forward was played perfectly making sure the convoy is moving from the middle, for me personally following your track made the ride much easier for me specifically when am seeing you doing it I got the confidence that yes I can follow his track and will pass safely I had couple of refusals which I was able to recover with @Anish S support and @Janarthan and @Chaitanya D didn't spare an effort to come back and help, even my totally stuck on the top of the ridge was self recovered by the support of the team on the radio @Anish S as a sweep making sure the full convoy is moving safely from the back - I recognized you on top of the dune watching the convoy moving safely Thank you all for your efforts and for the great afternoon ride Looking forward to see you all again next weekend

Unfortunately my roster for December is to unstable, so I don’t think is fare to the rest of Liwa eager off-roaders to make a last minute cancellation in case of a last minute change. Please Frederic remove me from the drive to Liwa and give my space to the next on the waiting list. I will take my chances at the last minute in any of the drives if I manage to be available and there is a space available at that time .

Dear all, thanks a lot for your comments and advices. Since I'm going to Liwa not alone but with one or two passengers, I signed up for the Newbie drive and left the Fewbie one.

We all improve with each drive and you will come back a better driver every time to conquer even more challenging terrain. Trip Report: Thank you everyone for arriving on time inspite of heavy patrolling and temporary blocking of the Bab al Shams exit from Adnoc round about. No one who signed up missed the drive which is very satisfying for all the effort we are putting in the backend to accommodate as many Carnity members to get on to a drive every weekend in a very transparent way, Well done all of you. Writing this report reminds me of the cool wind buzzing through our cars riding on some "Buttery" dunes which Qudra had to offer from the entry point right till then end owing to a cloudy day which made the weather awesome for an outing like this. We squeezed most of the long range dunes on offer doing our bit of long slopes, sides, ridge rides and criss crossing. All of you drove really well in all areas , which is indeed commendable for a fewbie drive. Some of the drivers I was riding with were first timers , and after initial few minutes realized that you were well acquainted with the basics which are advised to you all on newbie drives by our more experienced Mar$hals. With sun setting and the sight getting more enjoyable we started heading to our exit , towards the tarmac beside Hamari well. The last technical dunes before the exit tested your drivability in tight spots where we did have some refusals but everyone were able to self recover and exit out well on time. Of course as it was dark, we did enjoy few min of night drive which is a different challenge and experience. @Pancho lead the almost all of the drive , and I was his second lead. It was a delight to be behind him and the way he calmly took us around the "Buttery" dunes was simply remarkable. Thank you very much for a great drive Pancho, which made our evening memorable. @Probir Mukherjee in the mighty Land Cruiser was a different driver from what I knew about him. Fantastic control on ridges, exiting out when you dont have the momentum perfectly and great improvement in communicating on the Radio. I hope your friend enjoyed the drive as much as everyone did.Self recovery from a tight soft deep pocket was a treat to watch ( pictures in the Gallery) @Jon M driving the montero was seen enjoying the moment. Some nice self recovery from a incline when he was side stuck on a dune, well done and great driving buddy @Mikhail Lukichev surfed his Prado on the sand as good as it can be, hardly any refusal and calls on the Radio which is testament for some fantastic driving done by you. Thank you for some nice snaps, appreciated. @Janarthan was our center forward , executing his role to perfection and always ready to help in any situation. Having you on any drive is a comfort for the lead and all in the convoy as one is rest assured that help is available when needed anytime. Thank you so much Jana @Mahmoud Hamzawy driving a Prado behind Jana was remarkable. Very well controlled and well driven, getting out of refusals from some tight situation was a delight tot watch from distance. Great control when you reversed and recovered your self , well done! @Goutam drove the Yellow wrangler really well. Absolutely unheard on the radio and hardly any issues, perfect driving . Well done @Tariq Carrimjee with an open top wrangler and all the gizmos for offroad is a delight to have on any drive. Great to see you enjoy the driving , especially on this day as the weather was simply perfect to enjoy what you have. @Islam Soliman our late addition to this drive and always a treat to see how well you drive a massive beast. Very well controlled driving , even in some tight spots and some great advise in situations where we needed. Well done Habibi @Anish S was our sweep and helped in situation which were tricky at times. Great to have a conversation with you when we had a break and know more about you and how you, yourself need and feel what you have to improve. This is what will make everyone a better off road driver in the long run. Thank you so much for all the assistance, and thanks to your copilot @Veedooshee for some great pictures We drove close to 52 Km, in about 3hrs 30 min with an approx stop time of 25 min, some stats to share. Of course these are not needed and do not convey the quality /sense of enjoyment we had during the drive. See you all again soon , while you enjoy a short week at work.

Found an answer in Intermediate drive: @Heisem: alternatively you can install a kill switch for your Prado at xxxxxx xxxxxxxx, i paid 250AED. Kills the ABS, traction control and airbags. I did that for the FJ i dont think the electronics are that much different. Ah forgot i was not supposed to mention garage names on this forum.. Any good offroad garage will do it. Ras Al Khor area is where i go.

Truly appreciate @Chaitanya D @Jeandre Bezuidenhout and anish they were extremely helpful.. I had a couple of stucks but they were easy ones however near the end my car had a nasty stuck near wedged between two sides of depression and it took quite an effort to move it.. once again @Jeandre Bezuidenhoutmighty rubicon came to the rescue.. over all a very valuable learning experience. Most got stuck amd we had 3 pop outs as well. @Chaitanya D a great marshal to have.

Hi @Athula Dharmadada A Newbie drive would be a better option if you are planning to bring family along. As I mentioned earlier this is extreme terrain which will demand the maximum of your vehicle for a whole day. There is still space available and will make the experience better for your family. Driving for 5-6 hours in this terrain as a passenger will be very demanding.

Hello Team, It was a nice get together and enjoyed every bit of it! Both Fredaric and Sartaj were amazing. The brief at the start was excellant and took away the nervousness. The tips coming in from Fradaric on when to accelarate, when to decelarate etc., were top notch and helped a lot in not getting stuck. Sartaj put in his expertise whenever needed. The machine Pajero was amazing as well responded to all the needs, never thought the stuff we did was possible with it! Last but least, the team was great and kudos to everyone! And to anyone who still havent decided to do this, it is an amazing experience which we need to go for. Afterall, no point in keeping your 4x4 as a showcase! Looking forward to the next!

@DANIEL NOGUEIRA sorry you had to cut the drive short, but it’s better to take care of these things. Glad you made it back to RAK safely. Thanks to all of today’s drivers for being so fabulous and allowing me to take you galavanting through the desert. I had so much fun! Thanks to @Brettefor his wonderful support , @Veedooshee for executing a great second lead. It’s always a pleasure to see @Ahab Shamaa and his truck of many gadgets. Likewise @Archibald Jurdi you get better and better with that lovely car of yours. Getting a better feel for the car (finding the psi that matches my driving style, learning to throttle and turn smoother, power of manual gears). Your coaching, support, patience, the stunning landscape/views PLUS no ‘pop out’ made this a truly enjoyable experience! DRIVE REPORT Leading an Absolute Newbie drive is always an adventure, and seeing the smiles again after a few hours of dune-driving makes it all worth. We started off with deflating, and stressed on the importance of getting it right. There is only a little bit of air pressure difference between 14 or 18psi, but the result can be felt immediately, so it was good to experience this and practice it right. Nevertheless after a few hours of desert driving the pressure will slowly creep up again, so it's good keeping an eye on it from time to time. The entry point brought us almost immediately into the long range dunes, where we practiced some minor sidesloping and made some nice loops. Firstly because it is fun, but also because it teaches you all about steering control and the use of momentum. The two Pajeros behind me, with @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader doing an amazing job as second lead, and @Abilash Madhavan getting the hang of his capable Pajero, were in pursuit of my little blue, that has spent a week in the workshop and i was glad to finally take back the steering wheel. @Santhosh kumar Rajasekaran driving the mighty Range Rover, is not the easiest vehicle to learn, but you did well and kept a cool head, even when the engine starting throwing some errors and @sertac had to do some diagnosis with his magic OBD box. @Gavin Hill and @Chris Meir were excited to hit the dunes, and you guys both did amazing. Gavin, i hope your initial fear of getting the Hummer H2 stuck in the sand has been replaced with the confidence and knowledge that the key thing is momentum at all times, especially when driving a big mighty V8. You both did a cracking job ! @Rajesh Anchan and @Bala Krishnan both brought their Prados to the drive, and both drove really well ! The same applied for @Dinesh Dembla and @pramod who brought the legendary Landcruiser. Well done guys ! @Thomas Varghese you were in the back of the convoy and that is always a little bit more difficult because of the churned up sand, but you were also lucky to receive the wonderful guidance from @sertac who did an absolute amazing job today. Keep up the momentum and don't be afraid to wake up the beast that a Xterra is. You will be surprised once it wakes up Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot.
