  4. Drive Report Convoy #2 First of all, thanks to @Ale Vallecchi & @Gaurav for giving us a chance to conquer a new terrain, a rather different one. As informed by @Gaurav, hats off to @Ale Vallecchi and @Wrangeld for exploring and presenting us with such an amazing route. The route accommodated some of the most beautiful landscape sceneries that I have seen. It starts off easy and simple, but becomes more complicated as we make our way up some of the very tall dunes, but all the drivers handled it like pros. We barely spent any time on refusal recoveries and were able to spend more time driving (and waiting for camels to cross the tracks 😜). @Gaurav, as expected, did an awesome job leading and presenting us with different challenges, for us to understand the sand and our cars better. @Niki Patel nailed the role of a 2nd lead by keeping a safe distance from the Marshal and rerouting the convoy when required. @Ahab Shamaa kept the tail of the convoy in order and assisted some refusal recoveries. The fact that everyone at the back made it to the end point, shows you did your job well 😂. @DANIEL NOGUEIRA, seemed like you really missed your Dodge today 😂, hope you get it back asap. @Ale Vallecchi @Gaurav Also thanks for the little surprise at the end for the Fewbies, it further enhanced the thrill. The sand was very soft throughout the route, yet we got no refusals or stucks. Well done everyone 👏🏼. *Some pictures uploaded in the Gallery

  5. With the number of Wrangler drivers facing issues with linkages, and having to crawl below their cars to push the transfer case in position, thought I would reshare the transfer Case (TC) linkage upgrade that I had done with my Cherokee XJ. To just give a quick background, I have been driving a Cherokee XJ since 2017 and like most of you, after a few months of purchase I decided to lift it by a couple of inches and that's when the problem started. With the lift and a TC drop, the OEM transfer case linkage was never aligned properly resulting in a lot of stress on the rubber bushings. I replaced the bushings multiple times (each bushing costing AED 20), and still after every few drives I would have a loose TC handle. So I would crawl below my car to push the TC shifter in the right position and this became tedious especially when the car was at an awkward angle and I had to crawl below to shift the TC into 4Low. After reading a lot on various forums, I finally decided to upgrade the linkage to a Boostwerks linkage. Its been 3 years since and this linkage eliminated the following problems: Smooth Shifting between 2H, 4H and 4L Never pops out of 4H when I go through some extremely bumpy tracks. My original linkage would suddenly go into 2H when I used to hit cross tracks. Imagine that happening while doing a sidey or a long hill climb. Never having to crawl below the car and no burnt hands as exhaust manifold runs close to the transfer case Best Part : Peace of mind that my transfer case would not fail me when I needed it the most Though Boostwerks dont make the linkage for Wranglers, Advance Adapters do and they have got a lot of positive reviews on various forums. Ofcourse, you need to read up a bit more to see which model would suit your car depending on the year and the amount of lift, TC drop, etc. There are various other options as well, but this is something that you guys need to seriously consider especially if the TC lever is frequently becoming free. https://www.advanceadapters.com/products/715596--heavy-duty-jk-cable-shifter-upgrade/ Note: I have no affiliations to any of the above vendors and have just shared an experience that would probably help other offroaders.

  7. Trip report Everyone arrived on time which was good start for a perfect day as it unfolded. We prepped and off to drive as quickly as possible after a debrief. Faqa has some tall long range dunes which are perfect to practice lot of ridge ride and crisscrossing which was the plan for today and you all did great. Some technical areas while we approach the play areas were managed very well by all of you. We gathered some pace on the sabkhas and went ahead to explore more in little Sweihan, which has some nice deep white sand bowls which needed a slightly different approach. Even here everyone performed very well which was great to see. Some refusals ,tugs and a half pop out all fixed in quick time. Some drivers were fighting gravity approaching tall dunes while criss crossing. I would like to mention again here it is not a right way to do it and definitely not safe. Please exit out at that point and attempt again which is always fine. @Anish S did a great 2nd lead and you all were intact following his tracks. Very glad to have you as my 2nd lead, thank you. @Shaaz Sha drove his SWB wrangler to near perfection. How you matched the pace of an IM drive was wonderful to see. @Abu Muhammad driving a monster Sequendra, did amazingly well. The roar of the V8, the attitude and the energy you bring to drives fantastic. @Nabil Bishara was wonderful with his SWB wrangler which is a perfect desert car for all that we did today.well done @Mehmet Volga great to see your ever smiling face, and how you managed the Pajero bought a smile on everyone in the convoy. I know you love the dunes here and hope you enjoyed it. @marks was driving his FJC with gusto, managing the long ridge rides very well. Great driving @Tero Vallas driving his Prado did well too. Driving at the back of the convoy is not easy but you did great. @Jeandre Bezuidenhout surfed the dunes in his blue wrangler Rubicon. Absolutely no issues which is a testament to how well you drive. @Jeepie presence at the back was reassuring that I pushed all of you to drive fast, do a lot of ridge rides , tall slopes and cross crossing. Thank you for your reassuring support Marjan. @Kailas you missed out on a fantastic outing, hope you are all good. Just to reiterate to all of you - Do not fight gravity while criss crossing , and feel your fish tail. - no shame in attempting again, as many times you want. - it is preferable to have bash plates on the front . Well done all of you, it was indeed a great day out in the desert where everyone enjoyed to the max. Happy holidays

  8. Thanks Gaurav and Ale for organizing this awesome drive and stepping up to accommodate the long list of WL. The weather, the setting, the team were all awesome and the cheerleaders (the camels and donkeys 🙂) made it simply special. Simply couldn't have asked for better location to mark the last drive for 2020. Thanks to Kashif, Ahab and Niki for guiding us through the drive. You guys made it comfortable for all of us in most technical of situations. Special thanks to Ale and Richard for exploring this route. I am not going to miss any chance to get back there again. Looking forward to see you all in 2021. Thanks again for the exhilarating nature safari today. PS: I am struggling to tag ppl in comment. Page keeps on adding the same name multiple times. Perhaps my phone or maybe a bug to test on webpage.

  9. In short, the path chosen by @Rahimdad for us to drive as a newbie was excellent in terms of learning how to negotiate with very loose surface. I understood the importance of this learning when I myself was sinking into the sand while walking up the bowl. Unfortunately I couldn't deflate myself to support me in the sand as I'm heavy at 120kgs. I clearly understood the importance of deflating the tires to very low pressure so that track lengths are increased and pressure exerted over the sand is decreased. Its a wonder how the hefty cars hold up against the sand by just decreasing the tire pressure. It was really a good experience. Hope to have the drives open soon and see you all at the next drive.

Especial Thanks to @Janarthan for all the support today ofcourse @Aus Alzubaidi for being the best 2nd lead and @syed salman raza for being the most helpful sweep. Finally Thank you all today for being such a great co convoy.. see you all soon in the sand.

  12. So I'm well known to be the most boring guy when it comes to my drives. Straight in, find my way around obstacles and straight out without any fuss. Today was the day I decided to change my image and deliberately drove towards more challenging area which Newbies can negotiate safely and this convoy was at the brunt of my change. Morning started with a bit of a confusion with another convoy nearby. After deflation and putting my flag up I went back on foot to get all our Carnity members to join me further up near the farm wall. After doing a quick attendance and radio check we found @Sai Baskaran missing. So its fair to day we turned out to be the lucky 13 on a Friday. A quick brief from @Janarthan and falling into our convoy positions announced by @syed salman raza we were on our way. I started on a fairly easy track and started deviating to the right with every little chance I had to raise the challenge. Although I felt bad in the beginning that this Newbie group had to learn the hard way, but the feedback was they were enjoying emevery moment and learning from every little to medium dune we conquered. Surely there were a few refusals, but what a positive vibe I felt through this amazing batch of off-roaders who wore their biggest smile on every challenge. Slowly but surely and with some very many helping hands we cleared one dune after the next as we came closer to Pink Rock play area. The toughest part was the last medium size dune before the Pink Rock play area dawned upon us. But a never say die attitude and some very enthusiastic members we were able to cross this obstacle also. Upon reaching the play area I was surprised to see everybody itching to try out their capabilities with everyone having atleast 2 to 3 tries, every try was better than their last. As everybody had their fill and we moved there was a request to cross the Pink Rock area which I readily agreed to. I was surprised that although at any given time we had about 3 to 4 convoys in the area which we used to come across but we were never overly bothered by any of them. Going up on Pink Rock was the smoothest in the longest of times I could recall which was also pleasant. The convoy did so well that we were all on top within no time and wonderfully placed not to cover the track and strategically placed for easy movement. So with about 30 minutes left on the clock I gave a choice of moving towards 2nd December Cafeteria or having some play time and unanimous decision was to have some more play time. As we approached some awesome dunes after descending on the back side of Pink Rock everybody was in awe of how we would approach such nice rolling dunes. So we headed in knowing that this area will be full of challenges but will help us to learn and progress to the next level. Once again everybody did an amazing team work and we kept pushing each other to improve our driving capabilities. With a very challenging recovery which meant I had to take over and demonstrate recovery plus rocking (swing/jula) technique to come out of that bowl. As we were now well past our time to exit we took just 5 minutes to reach 2nd December cafeteria where we all inflated. My satisfaction came when I saw everyone wearing their broadest of smiles and having their story books filled to tell the newer member who are waiting to join our wonderful community. From my point of view it was a tough one where we did not run into the higher kilometer count, but one where we were able to learn and improve our drive styles and push our boundaries at this level. My second lead @Aus Alzubaidi was amazing and I just felt so comfortable taking everyone deeper and through the tougher parts due to your second lead. You were amazing and your response to my every request gives me more confidence in you. While we were inflating you said some golden words that you totally trust me with the way I drive and are comfortable following me. With experience you'll feel much more confident with many more members and that is what we need at higher levels. Trust. @Sreenath Giridharan your Toyota Fortuner 2.7 liter 4 cylinder reminds me of @Jolly Abraham who has already proved me wrong as to how far the 4 cylinder Fortuner can venture in the right hands. I must say that last week I was in the impression that you still have to learn so much. But watching you through some tough terrain you managed so well that I was pleasantly surprised at your sudden growth. Although there is the gear technique which you caught on to on this drive, but I'm glad you're being much more positive and continuing your learning with a huge smile. @Thomas Varghese as we learned today your Xterra has loads of power and I'm glad you're taking good care of it. You need to trust the vehicle, improve your line and still need to pick on a few techniques, but I'm glad you bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn on every drive. Loved having you on this drive as you missed out last week. @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader although you were a few cars behind but don't think I did not have my eyes on you. You quietly progressed in the drive with no assist fro. Anyone around, but I was very please to see you taking the right lines and applying enough throttle to pass the toughest of dunes. Lovely to have you on this drive and I would like to hear more from you. @Danish Mohammad I feel blessed to have you and your family on the drive. I understand its only a newbie drive and you need to learn further, but with your tires you need to find that sweet spot of deflation. I had the privilege to give your family some jula and drive them to higher grounds. Your ride is awesome and I'm pleased that you're ready to put in the labour to learn and grow within our structure. @Janarthan I'm so glad @Srikumar added you to support me for my drive. Without you brining the sunshine this morning my plans of destroying my boring image would have been a dream. I know you had to work hard, but I love to see you breaking into a sweat. Just can't thank you enough for all your support. @Explored Dubai another queit member who dripped in and out of the convoy without much attention. But surely I had my eyes on you as well. I'm impressed with the way you handled your ride and live your cool and calm demeanour. @Nikola Bozovic your presence with your family brought its own flavour to the drive. Instead of one I was blessed with 4 smiles from your vehicle and as you better understood the deflation options the better you performed. I loved your throttle and steering control and felt proud that with all the girls in the car you were never distracted and kept driving amazingly well. @andy_macdxb ots been some time since I last saw you. You have not lost your touch and gave me a feeling you've been practicing those awesome skills of yours. It was a pleasure to meet your missus and her one off scream kept me smiling knowing she is enjoying herself as much as you pushing your Pajero to the limits. Due to Covid19 I'm missing your wonderful stories from the past, but with the vaccines out I can't wait to hear about your adventures in a life before Carnity. @Kaile Barrameda my kabayan and car full of girl power, and today she demonstrated the girls can do everything better. Sure she has a Rubicon Limo, but it also depends on how the driver handles it. Whoever you've been following on your previous drives has taught you well. Its not many a times when I am lost for words, but your performance today justified your position in the back where you're just making every moment your own. Plus with an infectious smile, that is one infection I would like to suffer with. @Nihal17 again another quiet and quite impressive soul, who bring soul to the drive. Its never easy being in the back end of a convoy and we always tend to put better cars with better drivers in the back and you too justified your position. You were another one with the limo and I must say to managed yourself well. How can I miss out on @syed salman raza who for a second drive in a row got his F150 polished for his sweep duties, and what an amazing assistance I had having him there. He was not alone, it was wonderful having your family witness what a sweetheart you are. Perfectly kept me updated about the convoy movement and kept the convoy moving at good pace. Its lovely to see a few people with the confidence to take on important roles within the convoy and today you proved my decision was right as was my judgement for you to take on the additional responsibilities. Thank you. For those who have completed their drives at the Newbie level as per our structure can apply for their promotions. Here are some of my pics posted in the Gallery. Enjoy. https://carnity.com/gallery/category/463-newbie-tawi-nizwa-sharjah-25-dec-2020

  13. When driving in sand, we always recommend to disable the traction control on every 4x4, and this goes for the Pajero as well. How to disable it can be found in below advice: Now when it comes to getting stuck, we found out that the traction control can actually help you in recovering yourself, because when it's engaged it will cut the power to the wheel that is spinning, and that is exactly what we want during self recovery. So if you have a kill switch, or you just pull the relay like described above, give it a try by putting it back and restarting your car whenever you get stuck and want to crawl yourself out. Give a little bit of gas and keep turning the wheel FULL left FULL right. We made a demo below: This trick will work on any 4th generation Pajero, but be aware that traction control will disable again when you engage your rear difflock. In the case of our demo car this was a 2008 3.8 Pajero without rear difflock (Qatar model). This will also work fine on any 3.5 Pajero. So the next time when you get stuck, try to enable your traction control and practice to see if you can get yourself out by using the blip-blip method (gentle throttle in bursts up to 1500rpm) and full left full right turns. You will see on the dashboard that the traction control will automatically cut the power to the wheels that are spinning.

  16. Hahahahahaha @Rahimdad I have to admit that most challenging part of the drive was to stay concentrated on the drive it self, but this happened only in my car 😂 Well, I am not of the type who likes to get sentimental or emotional and write essays in the chat, but this time I can’t help my self than to say couple of words. I don’t have too much drives with Carnity yet and this was my first drive with @Rahimdad and I can say that it was all but not boring! An amazing drive with easy and difficult parts that require a bit of throttle to push through. Thank you @Rahimdad for encouraging us in the clime on the pink rock and also for crossing it and extending the drive that we all enjoyed! I am sure that everyone will agree! After all I would like to say that on this Christmas I have met a man! A Superman! A man whose interest and importance drives not only towards the things we do but about the people, their feelings and happiness! One more time thank you @Rahimdad for the skills you shared, an awesome company and memorable 2020 Christmas! And to all, thank you being part of an amazing morning and experience! All the best wishes!

  17. Trip report We drove to make a triangle ( Big red to 2nd Dec cafe to Tawi Nazwa). Great to have a short convoy on a cold morning . It helped us to explore more and with fewer refusals or any issues. @Gaurav Soni was excellent as 2nd lead. The way you handle the Pajero was quite impressive and climbing the big red was a piece of cake. Well done buddy @Probir Mukherjee was number 3 in his monster LC V8, very few refusals . How you improvised and learned to play with gears for the climbs was very nice. Hope you had a good time. Bravo @Rizwanm2 was my Sweep cum center forward for this short convoy.we did not need your assistance much but you did great whereever it was needed. Great to see how you have improved driving the X. Well done. @Lucky sAm you missed out on something which happens rarely, a convoy of 4 cars only.😜 Some images uploaded in gallery. Well done all of you. Enjoy your last week of 2020, and for those on holiday - happy holidays.

  20. @Danish Mohammad I enjoyed it more when my car also slid into the bowl & @Rahimdad just took it out as a walk in the park. I am thankful to him to show me the power of my XTERRA. Really enjoyed the whole drive as never before. Looking forward to the next RSVP so that I can be with you guys again for a drive.

  21. What an amazing drive it was. It was equal to 3 drives on single day. We covered almost 60km without a stuck only few refusals. Thank you @Chaitanya D for your lead on maximum fun drive. @Gaurav Soni brilliantly handled his Pajero through out the drive. Initially @Probir Mukherjee was bit hesitant to push his V8 beast. But eventually he got the message and managed to climb bigred without any hesitation. Thank you all for your company. Hope to see u soon. Cheers

  22. I learned something new about you Superman bhai, you're a poet and sweet talker. I will think twice before bringing my wife to another drive with you Thank you so much @Rahimdadfor this awesome experience. I appreciate every second of it. I can still feel the cool breeze. Seeing a Mirage of dunes along the walls at home is my curse now. Looking forward to see you again in the sand. You're anything but boring, whether it's your driving style or your humane down to earth soul. Thanks again.

  26. Guys, what a beautiful scenario we drove through today... I'm glad I moved to RAK and I'm discovering more and more this Emirate, maybe we can get ordinary drives around here in the near future ... Thanks for @Ale Vallecchiand @Gaurav planning it and the "surprise" at the end was a golden key to close the drive... glad to see@Ahab Shamaa sweeping and than 2nd lead, great job, you always drive very well. Congrats to all , who did a great job... and sure the jokes about the American and Japanese cars, I was laughing a lot... I got used to my Dodge Ram, and it's a big difference driving the Fortuner, I might change my name to "proud American cars" or something like it, open for suggestions... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 See you guys in the sand !!!

  27. Automatic gear is designed differently than manual however the option of tiptronic is useful here especially in steep descend / ascend or even ridge riding , gives better control without the sudden shift up or down when on just D when let go or floor the accelerator .

  28. Thanks @Rizwanm2 not hesitant just reconfigured deployment of power using Tiptronic based on guidance of @Chaitanya D.. First time at big red hope to move through with better ease in the next round .
