Due to covid we will be restricted in any activites outside the car. Please only one person out of the car to deflate and if we are able to do it, brief. Being conscious that while this sort of weather is like high summer for me it is not for a lot of the drivers, if it's cold tomorrow morning we can brief inside the car. The plan - we will drive South from our start point to reach the long range dunes near to the Al Qudra Short cut. We will then travel East along the dune range making the most of these lovely wide high dunes.Passing through a few small sabkas we will reach the North side of Solar park and then cut North East across a mix of sabkas and high pyramid dunes enjoying some of the highest used dunes in the Al Marmoon dune complex. Here we will face cross tracks and cut up dunes - but that's the price we need to pay to reach the areas where we will be able to play and traverse for kilometer after kilometer ... We will be stopping for breathers for both car and drivers along the way, and for me to check the route because, in all honesty there are areas of deadly technical dunes all around. We will venture in there from time to time with our drive ending with a truly challenging technical section that will be all the more difficult because it is going to come at the end of the drive when everyone is tired. Our end point - well, we will keep that between friends for now. Am I looking forward to that routing - you bet. You'll all need to bring your A game tomorrow. This routing will be a real Fewbie challenge. Pace will be quick, dunes will be big and we will be taking a route that is at least partly slipside rather than our usual routing. It means you will need to be able to criss cross confidently. But enough ... Let's hope there is no fog. If there is, we will treat it like a night drive Myself and @Janarthan are truly excited about what's to come. If you have problems getting to the start pint because of fog my number is 0504254574 - ping me with problems. See you soon in the sand.

  6. There is another problem as well with my Xterra. Its so weird. If I'm in JLT the remote key fob doesn't work. I will have to lock and open the car manually. Everywhere else the key fob functions normally. Any tower I go to in JLT the key fob doesn't work. No problem with my other car which is an Altima in JLT

  11. What radio unit do you have? The Boafeng UV5 is very sensitive to all external interference. the Motorola is better. Some cars seem to impact the radios more than others, or just the atmospherics. By the sound of things there is something in the systems in your car that causes the problems, interferring with the reception. Perhaps take a look on google and see if there are people with a similar problem. Maybe there are other Jeep owners that have a similar problem here on Carnity that we can ask.

  15. Dear Frederic. You were my first drive leader when I was an absolute newbie some months ago. I still remember that ending the ride, I received a call from a friend that was having a mechanical issue in Al Qudra near solar park (in the middle of the dunes). I had to leave the convoy to assist my friend. Being new to the area you helped me find a way to my friends location using google maps and offered to join us later (after ensuring the convoy had exited safely), if there was any assistance requirement. Luckily I managed to help my friend solve his mechanical issue and exited the desert with no additional events. What impressed me was your willingness to support us even when we had just met that day. It matched with my view of the "Off-roader spirit: We go in together and we come out together". In summary I though to my self: "if these people do this kind of things and behave this way, I want to be part of it". Congratulations for a very well deserved promotion. I am looking forward to participate in some of your future rides.

  18. Thank you @Wrangeld, looking forward to drive under your lead in few hours. Not sure who can help with this. But over the last 9 drives, I had no issues with Channels 1 & 2. Last week, we used Channel 3 with @Rahimdadand it generated a lot of noise. I tried different radios, switched off my mobile phone, but the continuous interference was unbearable. The only way to stop the disturbance was switching off the engine. We had to use the emergency channel 5 at the end. Should i try a CB radio? Can we use another channel? Any other tips?

  19. In the UAE, we have a myriad of terrains to choose from when it comes to desert driving. For many new members who might be asking themselves what the differences actually are, I wanted to compile the most known areas we drive in, and give some information about the area and what you can expect when you join a drive with us in that area. We will be focusing on the sand driving. Northern Emirates (UAQ and RAK) Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah have some very nice areas that we often explore, with plenty of vegetation, wildlife, and the mountains are never far away. On these drives, the emphasis is more on exploration than on the typical dune bashing. Scenic Score: 95% Excitement Score: 70% Versatility Score: 95% Fossil Rock - Faya - Sharjah From the moment you drive on the Sharjah - Kalba road, you'll see the majestic Fossil Rock mountain on the right hand side. It has got its name due to the ancient fossils that you can find on the rocks, and the surrounding red dunes are a delight to drive. Usually starting from Batayeh-Faya road, the dunes gradually go from small and bushy until you reach the nice open areas with "The Long Lady" as one of the most popular dunes to showcase and practice your sidesloping skills. The cherry on top is the climb on Fossil Rock itself which provides an amazing scenic view on the area and Mleiha town below. A must for every beginner level driver ! To even up the challenge you can take on the nice bowls behind Fossil Rock, or head out to Faya which is also called "The Saddle". Scenic Score: 90% Excitement Score: 70% Versatility Score: 90% Pink Rock - Big Red - Sharjah Nearby Fossil Rock, you will find Pink Rock, which got its name from the pinkish hue the rocks have. This very popular off-road area is known for the smooth gentle dunes at the start that gradually move to challenging bowls nearby the base of Pink Rock. Climbing Pink Rock is the ideal challenge for beginners and provides a fantastic view as well. From Pink Rock you can head out to Big Red which will up the challenge and entice every level of off-roader. The Big Red area is an off-roader hotspot during the season. Scenic Score: 80% Excitement Score: 70% Versatility Score: 75% Bidayer / Area 53 / Schuwaib - Sharjah This area is not for the faint of heart, and the big dunes will demand you to keep momentum at all times, while the massive hills such as Iftar Bowl and Super Bowl are ultimate play areas one can find in Sharjah. This area tends to be extremely busy during the offroad season. Scenic Score: 60% Excitement Score: 80% Versatility Score: 65% Margham / Lahbab - Dubai A little less known area, but very versatile with nice technical areas, playable bowls, and overall a terrain where any level offroader can practice and hone their skills without encountering too many cross tracks. Scenic Score: 70% Excitement Score: 70% Versatility Score: 75% Murquab - Lisaili - Faqa - Dubai This area is located on the Dubai-Al Ain road and offers so much. From technical terrain, to the arboretum in Faqa, long range dunes in both Faqa and some areas of Lisaili, and the most amazing creamy dunes below the Maktoum Solar Park which we have now called "Little Sweihan". This area never disappoints and there is a reason we have it on our weekly drives schedules ! Scenic Score: 85% Excitement Score: 80% Versatility Score: 95% Al Qudra - Dubai Al Qudra has become one of the most well known Offroad areas in Dubai, mainly due to the close vicinity to the city, but also because of its versatility, nearby facilities (Last Exit, Love Lakes), and the wildlife than can be spotted while off-roading (gazelles, oryx). This area stretches out to Murquab in the East via Al Hathmah area, on to Faqa going South below the Solar Park, and up to the Bab al Shams resort in the West. Scenic Score: 85% Excitement Score: 75% Versatility Score: 95% Sweihan - Abu Dhabi / Al Ain The Sweihan area in Abu Dhabi has to be experienced, and the proximity to Dubai brings lots of Dubai residents to Sweihan to explore the massive long range dunes and versatile area that has something in store for every off-roader. Sweihan never disappoints and the Nagrah area which alternates between monstrous dunes and deserted sabkhas will leave you hungry for more every single time. Scenic Score: 80% Excitement Score: 90% Versatility Score: 95% Al Khatim - Abu Dhabi A very popular and versatile offroader destination for Abu Dhabi residents with exhilarating dunes and technical areas that will challenge any offroader. Scenic Score: 80% Excitement Score: 90% Versatility Score: 80% Wagan / Umm Al Oash / Bu Tais - Abu Dhabi / Al Ain In search for monstruous dunes where momentum and pace are critical and where your vehicle will be pushed to its limit ? Scenic Score: 95% Excitement Score: 100% Versatility Score: 80% Liwa Madinat Zayed - Abu Dhabi The Madinat Zayed area is famous for its Yellow Water Truck, which was left behind many years back, but no-one really knows how it got there. This area is consisting of massive dunes, and you can easily scale the level up or down in this area based on the convoy you bring there. From this place onwards and further down south into Liwa Crescent you will feel like you are on a different planet. Scenic Score: 90% Excitement Score: 100% Versatility Score: 90% Liwa Crescent - Abu Dhabi Seeing LIWA for the first time will leave you astonished, baffled, and beyond comprehension. From Himeem in the East, to Khanoor in the West, this whole area is filled with some of the biggest dunes on this planet, massive slipfaces that will make you shiver when descending, and extremely technical dunes that will require your utmost focus. This area is unforgettable and every off-roader should have this on his bucket list ! Scenic Score: 100% Excitement Score: 100% Versatility Score: 100%

  20. Hi @Alex Sidorov just before the drive starts, you remove the fuse and put it back once done with the drive. The large yellow fuse just lifts up but stays in the slot, it will not come out, just lift it up fully and after the drive push it back down. When you do this, the annoying beep will start once you begin driving but will cut off after 1 minute or when you touch 20kmph. Just remember 3 things before the drive, deflate, put up your flag and remove fuse. After the drive, inflate, remove flag and put fuse back. 1st pic is the fuse in place, 2nd pic it is out.

  21. Normally the stock tyre is the largest tyre that can fit without rubbing at full turns. The aspect ratio of 60/65/75 is dependent on the rim size. 16 inch rims is a good size to fit an off-road tyre, and Genolandar AT is a very good option. If you want a good pricing you need to visit Sharjah. Prices in Dubai might be on the he higher side.

Thus, i need to change the tyres before that. Have narrowed down on Geolandars AT G015. In your opinion should i go for 275.? Also between profile of 60-65-75 which is better.? @Chaitanya D @Rahimdad kindly advice. & Any recommendations for tyre dealership near Al Quoz..?

  27. So, checked couple of vehicles in the last few days. One thing that stands out is how some of the sellers have no problem lying through their teeth when it comes to even simple things like accidents which can easily be checked online using the chassis number 🤨. Or claims like vehicle is in top condition, but fails to brake when it has to stop 🤣 One more case I ran into, was one cant test drive the vehcile until a price is fixed 🤔. The whole pajero was shaking when checking the gear change. Can't seem to understand the logic. This was a dealer though. Anyway, search continues......time to check some xterras also.

  30. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

  36. Dear desert people. Time to send the last information about tomorrow's Absolute Newbie drive. First of all, thanks for sending me the info regarding your past experiences, and available equipment. I will check the tow points when you reach the meeting point, just to make sure they are in good conditions. Those who have flags, please mount them, while I will assist you with deflating. Please, remember to come with a full tank. Regarding the meeting point, I have chosen a spot which is a bit out of the way from the tarmac road, as in the proximity of the turn-off there are a lot of road works, and we may not have enough space. As advised, please follow the Google Map directions. Once you turn off the tarmac (after circling 360 degrees around a roundabout) you will pass through an opening in the roadworks, and head toward an opening in the fence you'll see in front of you. One between myself (with a black Xterra) and @Jeepie (with a green Jeep) will be waiting there, to point you in the right direction. Please take that gravel road into the area, and drive for less than 3 Km before finding the meeting point. Either myself or Marjan (Jeepie) will be already parked there: stop in a line on the side of the track, and wait to receive further instructions. Those of you with radios, please tune into Carnity Channel #1 (446.006). It would be best if you manage to have this frequency pre-programmed, or activate the dial-in funcyion of your radio, so you may manually tune into it. This will be the convoy order which you will have to follow, once we'll have departed from the meeting and deflation point: @Serafino will be in second place @Satish Mungse in spot #3 @Hossam Anwar at #4 @Samuel Hainsworth will be #5 @Francis Fernandes #6 @Pacific will go at #7 @Robert Nammour at #8 @Cedric Warde will drive at #9 @Ahmed Wagdy with spot #10 @soumyasaklani will be #11 @ankit teotia in place #12, and @Jeepie will close the group. Everything else you'll have to know we'll discuss and present just before and during the drive. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning at 7:00AM sharp.

  37. Dear Gaurav, I do have a question in that in the last couple of days we all have probably experienced a late start to the day on account of dense fog descent on many part of the roads. Should that be the case tomorrow what would you advice we do. Whilst I am geared up for tomorrow, I just want to be sure I understand the plan should such an eventuality occur. Put it this way I set a good part of the day for the drive so waiting for the fog, should there be one, to clear up is not a problem at all. regards william
