  1. Well, my love for the Xterra is still there, but we both parted our separate ways and found new partners 😁 . We're still friends though! As promised, the winner is a 2014 Rubicon, GCC specs, 86.000 km, no mods, and a lot of money 😅 (well not really THAT much) Thank you all for your guidance and advice, and special thanks to @Wrangeld who I annoyed many times with countless questions and adds, and to @Craig Finlayson who @Foxtrot Oscar annoyed on my behalf. Now I just need to watch loads of videos and learn how to use all those off-road buttons!!! Will probably be christening it in the desert in Emmanuel's newbie drive, if time allows.

  2. Dear Desertnauts, here is a small taste of this Friday's drive. First of all, it will be another "premier" drive for Carnity. The itinerary is a mix of two tracks, first from Al Aweer to S149, then, after crossing the tarmac, from the eastern outskirts of Lahbab (where the first segment ends) to the Mahafiz Mosque. Both tracks have been tested once, the first half during an Advisors' recce drive, the second part with a week-day drive convoy. Even this second segment will partly be on an unexplored track, that will first point south-west toward Nazwa, then will revert to the east, in the direction of Mahafiz. The terrain is mostly of very long range dunes, with large humpback ridges, which at times become sharper, but always showing two degrees of difficulty: first, there are bushes and small trees on most of their slopes, which may force early exits, and second, they tend to be meandering, rather then being straight, forcing the driver to follow their curves, and manage to stay on the ridge while steering and controlling the car's progression with a steady momentum. The first part of the drive will also be across quite a few older tracks, left most likely by locals, who seem to favor this area close to Al Aweer for sunset viewing and picnics. The same seems to be the case for the initial part of the second half of the drive (locals' tracks, slowly disappearing as we drive deeper into the desert.). Given the novelty of the itinerary, and some degree of difficulty of the ridges we'll be looking to ride. this time more than ever, be sure to come as fresh and concentrated as possible, and ready to experience some adjustments to the route. In the meantime, @Hossam Anwar, @Ahmad Shaker, @Niki Patel, @Ranjan Das, @Trekado, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, @Thomas Varghese, @Mario Cornejo, @soumyasaklani, enjoy your week.

  3. Good morning fellow adventurers, What a beautiful day for a leisurely jaunt into the desert. Lisaili is a very beautiful area, the plan is to navigate a very small patch of technical dunes and head into wide open dunes which will give us plenty of opportunities to side slope and cross over. We will head towards Solar Park with the sun setting on the horizon, which for the avid photographers amongst us will present a dream photo shoot. We will be using Radio Channel 2 (two) My proposed convoy is as follows: Driver Car Level Position Angela @Foxtrot Oscar Black X Expert Lead @Veedooshee White Pajero IM 2nd Lead @Lawrence_Chehimi Y62 Fewbie 3rd @Thomas Varghese White X Fewbie 4th @Shehab Alawadhi F150 Fewbie 5th @Craig Finlayson Wrangler IM CF @Ashok chaturvedi Yellow FJ IM 7th @GauravSoni @Ahab Shamaa Grey Pajero White FJ IM IM 8th 9th @Hisham Masaad Black FJ IM 10th @Melenany F150 IM 11th @Islam Soliman @Asif Hussain Yukon Xterra Adv Marshal Sweep Flying Sweep See you all soon

  6. Agreeing to what Frederic said also sand fountain making is more higher in two wheel drive adding to the nonsense 😄 I believe it’s very dangerous to be in 4x2 in the sand as your front is always acting as a fulcrum to flip over , turn over .... and any thing which ends with over 😆

  7. Driving offroad in 2WD mode indeed has no purpose, apart from the fact that they are able to show off and do more spins/donuts in the sand.

And ofcourse the continuous guidance over multiple drives and over forums from @Gaurav @Vanessa8580 @Frederic @Kailas @Tbone @Janarthan @Brette@Lorenzo CandelpergherC and all friends at Carnity. 17. Congratulations @Anish S, @marks, and @Tamas Hoffmann for successfully completing the second session of leaders lead with flying colors. As you all have learned the art of leading while navigating your way with GPS, now it's your chance to get ready for the ultimate test of skills. You will be learning the basics of leading the convoy in the desert in three different steps: Advance sand reading, plan your lead, plan your exits. Use of navigational software for selecting the right course of path. How to systematically scale the lead for all the cars in the convoy. In this third session of leaders lead you will be leading through technical dunes with the help of off-road navigation app or device. And also learn to scale up or down the drive level difficulties as per convoy response. Prepare and mark these basic points and you will be required to reach any one or few of them: Entry and Exit Lisali camel track Lisali Fort Lisali technical dunes Murquab technical dunes Faqa long range dunes Faqa technical dunes Mark few play area in and around Lisali, Murquab and Faqa area. 27. Hi I have a Sahara...was a question I evaluated for weeks before I made the choice... Key elements you need to evaluate are : A. if this is going to be your daily drive or weekend drive.. B Do you like Jeep in it's stock form or going for jeep with plan to do upgrades. C. If really planning for offroading, would it be more of desert or treading the rocky mountains.. D. And ofcourse the budget. I choose Sahara, as I had no plans for major mods (at least not on immediate basis). Like my Jeep in stock form and since it was also going to be my daily drive wanted to have some basic features - leather finish and seats, bigger screen, better sound system, adaptive cruise and blind spot, forward coliison warning etc. I went for limited edition on Sahara and paid premium for adaptive cruise control (generally in Jeep this is the last thing ppl pay for but that's personal choice - though a jeep I want smart features as well.). Another friend who bought at same time as me went for sports and spent the money he saved on mods.. Eventualy having spent almost same amount, On cool/styling scale, his vehicle surely is at higher level than mine - bigger wheels, awesome custom leather finish, a bit of lift etc. However he can't have comfort feature which I have stock in my vehicle. Plus for me all finishing is stock/company warranted, a big factor for me. So it's all on personnel choice.. Reg. Rubicon and Sahara for me was about budget. Perhaps a case of sour grapes I convinced myself that More sturdier and bigger wheels on Rubicon will make the ride bumpier on daily basis. I am sure if budget wouldn't have been an issue I would have preferred Rubicon over Sahara. Just the looks and feel of Rubicon is much better, ofcourse diff locks, dana 44 axles are big plus especially if planning to hit rocky terrain.

  40. From what I remembered the Rubicon has different gear ratios, reinforced axles, and front and rear lockers. This makes it the ultimate off-roader. It was also named after the pretty legendary Rubicon Trail in the US.

  42. In my opinion he was fighting gravity..... not really sure what happened in the first instance but you can hear in the audio something the driver did wasn't correct (Also evident from the amount of sand behind).... As i learnt driving a Warngler they do fishtail and if you are not controlling the speed and direction you ask for trouble. to summarize my thoughts... he came in at a high speed (possibly crisscrossing the dune) and lost control (See the car's direction at 0.01 and 0.02 sec) then he tried to steer up (should have steered down instead) and with high speed his car fishtailed which just helped in flipping over

  43. When not having safe distance the reaction time is reduced substantially and the LC driver found him self in a no return point . it’s better to get stuck than to crash or from the start give proper time and distance for reaction please see below I didn’t get enough distance so I couldn’t steer down earlier nor I could over take for the fear of slipping on the vehicle in front of me so I preferred to stop . In the second clip I have enough time to react and decide ( I was a sec lead ) Cheers 🌷
