Trip report Short convoy = Fun Quite evident on this drive, especially with a mix of new and experienced drivers. We all for sure felt the level of the drive wasn't at newbie. The newbies hardly got stuck ,whereas the more experienced got which goes to show sand is a great leveller for all. I personally was mistaken on two accounts getting sunken in soft patches as we entered a technical area. Seniors had refusals, crests and needed tugs ๐. Special mention to 1. @Chinthaka Ruwan who drove the X magnificently with absolutely no issues. Even while we practised higher dune crossings he was perfect, great to watch. And 2. @Russ managed his monster Raptor to perfection. Only one crest needing a gentle tug , and rest was pure roaring drive. Fantastic driving buddy. @GauravSoni did really well for 2nd lead and helped in all recoveries . How you are improving with each tug you execute is great to see. Thank you @Thomas Varghese our newly promoted IM was enjoying the X and the drive , some refusals needing shovelling but all part of the fun. Would love to see you get out more frequently and offer your valuable help ,especially now that you are IM member. @Islam Soliman swept all perfectly. Always a team man and thank you for offering your support for this drive. We did close to 32 km with average moving speed of around 17kmph ,for you to have some stats. Please remember to have Covid appropriate behavior on all drives. Stay safe and see you all soon7 points

Thank you @Lorenzo Candelpergher for this new level of driving, when we started to drive I was sweating bullets not going to lie. It was a challenging drive for me and the pressure was further increased because I was in second lead. No matter other than the crests I think I did pretty well. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for the support wish to be your second lead soon! Good job everyone else for the small chit chat and advice during the drive! See you all soon!6 points

Dear @Lorenzo Candelpergherthank you so much for the wonderful drive. as my first intermediate drive, it was Quite challenging for me at the beginning, I had to focus on steering wheel control and acceleration. I was Sweeting for the First thirty minutes. then I got used to it. I enjoyed fast pace driving on the dune crest, . I was feeling the heaviness of my car on some higher dunes and soft sand I got stuck a couple of times, fortunately I was Able to self recover with help of @Ale Vallecchiand @Gaurav Soni I see that there are fewer refusal and stuck in Intermediate level, which add more fun to the drive. I had Memorial drive as my first Intermediate level. every one Had nice car with suited pumpers for intermediate level. I was worried about my front pumper, which may had Interfered in my driving skills. and I skipped with few damages on it. As I didn't want to bring My family with me, but they insisted that I couldn't refuse it. I had my two daughters And my sister with me, It was fun For them as well, but it was little bit scary for my little ones, and got motion sickness at the end. They were fine once we stopped for inflating. Once again I want to thank and appreciate Mr @Lorenzo Candelpergherfor helping me to fix my popped out tire. and Thank you very Mr @Ale Vallecchi for helping me with my self recovery. Thank you Mr @Thomas Varghesefor encouraging me.6 points

Carnity management will be closing down additional comments on this drive after this post. We appreciate and acknowledge that the drivers now fully understand that individual behavior demonstrated could have been better, and fell outside the published COVID19 precautions. These rules, which have been agreed by all drivers, make it clear that there is an individual responsibility to comply and it appears that in this case, a number of drivers acknowledge they may well have lack to fully comply. There are no provisions in the published Carnity COVID19 precautions for the drive lead to assume responsibility for the behavior of individual drivers. Currently, no one has been banned, including Rahimdad. We do feel, however, that based on the above, drivers are now on notice that further infractions of the COVID19 precautions rules will result in an "individual ban" from future drives.5 points

Definitely a lesson acknowledged for @Rahimdad's drive and for all future ones. I accept the rules are there for the protection of all so we can enjoy this hobby. My apologies once again. Will certainly reinforce the message on future drives. Stay safe everyone.5 points

@Rahimdad very sorry to hear this and for any part we played in it. Lesson learnt and I for one will be more careful on future drives and very much look forward to you returning to the sands in the near future.5 points

@TT_Dubaiand @Lakshmi NarasimhanSince the gallery is full of similar recovery images from all other drives, I believe the problem was the photo I posted on top of Al Faya I rly cant say sorry enough @Rahimdad and wish you are back at it Asap5 points

@TT_Dubaiit was clearly communicated by @Rahimdadnot to post any pics with people outside during the brief and to be always covid compliant. Even though its a recovery we should not have posted the pics. At least going forward lets not breach any rules hard learnt lesson๐3 points
-
It's only fair. We have all agreed with the Covid19 rules which do indicate a strict banned policy. We all agreed to it including me. Its only fair and we should be more careful in future as Covid19 is serious and we should all respect the rules without any accepting. Not even me.3 points

@Thomas Varghese it is throttle and steering control. Always proud to see the team managing the drives so well at different levels, sharing their knowledge and experience. With the size of our club growing its impossible to be everywhere, but the occasions I get to drive with the amazing members I'm always proud of the safety and strong basics all drivers show including you @Thomas Varghese.3 points

I drove my Jeep Wrangler JL without the roof for a month, approx 7-8 drives, and it got drenched with a lot of sand in the dash area as well. Some sand dripped through dash to the speaker under the front dash near my knee area in the driver side and it makes crackling sound. When I asked the authorised service center to clean the dash they said it will cost 1000 bucks to remove the front dash and clean it. Please advise what to do.2 points

On my JL after winter without a roof, the buttons of the central panel began to stick, where the climate control is (while I always had a very clean interior). Pretty annoying, I'll see what Jeep offers as a solution during the next service. Vacuum cleaners / compressed air didn't help at all2 points

Good morning @Trent and welcome as well ! With regards to the radio, you can have a look at below article. I think the basic motorola set you are referring too is a Motorola TLKR model which has the PMR446 frequency range. These will work for the 4 channels we use in Carnity, but not for all. You are welcome to bring the radio coming Friday so i can have a look at it. In general we recommend the following models, as they have the option to enter any frequency: 1) Motorola or Crony MT777 2) Baofeng UV5R You will find the programming instructions in the below article as well:2 points

Hi one further question please...any recommendation for a walk-in talkie and place to purchase? I have a basic Motorola set that is used for skiing and not sure if this will suffice? Thanks, Trent2 points

@Rahimdad so sorry to hear this. Is there any possibility to appeal? I support rules especially re C19 but blanket application with a ban without a warning is harsh and I think itโs disproportionate. A part of what makes a community special during a desert drive is the camaraderie and the willingness to offer help to others. The last picture is a recovery assist for a stuck and everyone involved is wearing masks and the penultimate pic is an aerial pic and the only two people standing together are married/from the same family. In any event the point is well taken. Please feel free to ride with me at any time as a guest of honour passenger ๐2 points

@Rahimdad, we apologize for this, we will make sure this never repeats again. Hope to see you soon in sands leading us.2 points

DRIVE REPORT Dear Desert Wanderers, after a long period of forced abstinence from leading, today's drive was for me a great opportunity to get back in the game and feel once again the mix of adrenaline, fun and freedom that leading an off-road drive offers, so I couldn't be more grateful to all those who joined today and made this drive enjoyable, fast and smooth. All convoy members were sharp on time at the meeting point, so by 3:48pm we were already moving after the briefing: the best possible start for a drive meant to be all about speed and pace. A warm wind welcomed us on the sand. Maybe annoying during the very few recoveries, but perfect to grant us a virgin terrain, with ridges and crests perfectly reshaped in the anticipation of our passage. Less than a minute in the drive, we were already riding the first ridges at high speed: two wheels on one side of the crest, two on the other side, it became immediately clear this was going to be the leitmotif of the day. The name of drive became clear as well quite soon, as we systematically criss-crossed the ridges/crests, deep diving on the slip faces of dunes of all heights, to the extent that only once we did a straight up / straight down crossing. The convoy responded to my challenging routing far beyond my expectations. @Shehab Alawadhi was a perfect 2nd lead. Cautious enough to hold when I showed some hesitation, fast in response to my slight rerouting instructions, never hesitant to follow through, even in the most daring passages. Being crested in a couple of occasion only shows Intermediate level is now the right rank for him to polish even more his driving driving skills. @Thomas Varghese demonstrated beyond doubt how deserved his fresh promotion to Intermediate was. The drive pace and technical level were definitely a step up, but Thomas' response was excellent. A couple of stucks are to be considered part of the game, proof that even when one deservingly makes it to Intermediate, there is still more to learn. @Ali Abas led his Landcruser beautifully on all those crests. The only moment of hesitation (and a bush too much, probably) caused an unfortunate pop-out, which was however fixed in record time. I felt very sorry when I heard his daughters were a bit scared during the drive and that the little one got even car-sick in the end... Maybe a fast paced Intermediate drive was not the best occasion to bring the family along. @Gaurav Soni, despite driving in churned up sand, showcased the great wealth of experience built up over the many intermediate drives done with Carnity. @Rob Harper's Tundra was a beauty to watch.. I often looped back to keep an eye on the convoy and see how everyone was doing along the crests: everytime I looked, Rob's all black monster rode with two wheels past the crest in a very authoritative way. @Jack Thomasundoubtly had fun today, as he knew already what he had signed up for... He was indeed with me on my first "Slip face of Al Qudra" drive: I'm curious to read his views on this "reloaded" version, when compared to the first one. Last but not least, my appreciation and gratitude go to @Ale Vallecchi, an unusual sweep, who made my life a lot easier in the few recoveries we had to manage. I am glad to read he enjoyed the drive though churned up sand. Overall, we drove 52.3km in 2h 51', of which we spent in movement 2h 16', with only 34' stopped time. This resulted in a very fast pace at 23.4 km/h average moving speed. Not bad, but nothing to be compared with the running speed of the beautiful gazelles that crossed our path in the sabkha at sunset on our way out... I couldn't have planned a better gran finale. Thank you everyone for a great midweek drive and kudos for an outstanding performance.2 points

We all are excited about starting off Night driving not to miss out on desert driving in summer to save us from the scorching heat. I was looking at options for improving visibility on drives especially for cars in the the convoy at back/ when one is following a car to have a better sight of the car in front. Simplest one can do would be to attach LED blinkers to their respective off road flags at the top or just below the flag so that it makes it a tad bit easier for the car behind to follow and for safety crossing taller dunes . Just the way a off road flag serves it purpose during the day, it would do with these at night. These LED blinkers are available on line - basically cycle LED blinking lamps which also come with USB recharging options. Cost varies between different options and colors but a basic one would cost around 30-40 AED and I suppose it is worthwhile to have these. Any other suggestions or advises is welcome1 point

Thank you everyone for an overwhelming response. I have rated this drive as a Fewbie as this will be a first time night drive for many. The level will not be exactly Fewbie, but due to the challenges presented in the night and the prospects of learning from this drive I have rated it as a Fewbie. Waitlist as of now for 1st drive: 1 @Rizwanm2 2 @Sinol 3 @Pacific 4 @Jon M 5 @Lakshmi Narasimhan Waitlist for second drive: 1 @GauravSoni 2 @Thomas Varghese Note: *SMALL CLARIFICATION* Thursday night drives are part of weekend drives now as per the new summer drive schedule. So it will be counted as a "one drive per weekend" restriction until Monday night. From Tuesday morning onward anyone is free to join multiple drives.1 point
