  1. Qudra Scenic Site: Photo Hunt - Trip Report "A warm rainy day: this is how it feels when friends get together" - Rumi Angela (@Foxtrot Oscar) and Jamy are some of the oldest Carnity friends I have. I first met Jamy when she joined her first drive as a passenger of one of the Marshals, then her and Angela joined drives sharing the same car, as Newbies, while I was just promoted to Fewbie. And as good friends they signed up for this drive, which will eventually prove to be Angela's moment of truth and achievement. As often happens within the Carnity community, each drive becomes an opportunity to see old acquaintances, perhaps meet fellow country-men, certainly make new friends, and bring the family out for a leisurely morning together. This drive was no different, with the bonus of being orchestrated to be both Carnity's first Photo Hunt (an experiment that will soon be repeated, and may become a staple in our menu), and most of all, Angela's maiden drive as Marshal. Both ends were met with success, with the rain as a welcome, if uninvited, guest, providing a stunning scenography, of brooding clouds, wet tracks, windshields covered in diamond-like droplets, and a much cooler morning than expected (in all meanings of the word). Although the usual herds of gazelles that populate the first part of the drive did not materialize (except for a few, detected running up the dunes in the distance), we reached all the waypoints we had marked as scenic locations: the oasis with date palms, clay-rock outcrops, the 2 natural springs, the gnarly Ghaf trees at the beginning of a huge dune canyon, stunning views of Dubai on the horizon, and, last but not least, the oryx trotting in front of a low cordon of dunes, just while the sun was coming out. To insure that all selected locations were reached, Angela engaged in a perfect lead, mixing long range dunes, small technical areas, a string of roller-coasting sand bowls, and sabkha crossings. @Niki managed an impeccable Center Forward role, assisting in all recoveries, and Jamy @Desert Dweller enjoyed herself 100% from her Sweep position. Even though the convoy was composed of several first time Newbies, the number of refusals was minimum (with only one significant stuck, requiring a tug), and due mostly to the unusual nature of the terrain, crusty wet on top, but extremely soft and powdery once the surface was broken. My compliments to all drivers - @samamara, @aaron kamall, @Anoop Nair, @Sunil Mathew, @tarek, @Lucas Neo, @TT_Dubai and @Russ: great driving, with good control and well managed skills. Thanks for joining, providing great company, as well as giving Angela the opportunity to shine in her first Newbie lead. See you soon in the sand. Enjoy your week.

  8. Quick update: With massive thanks to @Nivin I have a new bumper and grille installed in the vehicle already, so ready for the next drives. Planning is to get the additional light bar fitted that will show the sand directly in front of the car some time this week! Thanks for all the support in getting the car out of the ditch!

  9. Thanks @Wrangeld for trusting me with the role of a 2nd Lead, been quite a while since I was last appointed that role. The drive itself was amazing with quite a bit of technical stuff, testing our concentration and our ability to keep our selves on the track. Honestly I can’t really comment on the driving styles of the fellow drivers behind me as I was too busy keeping an eye on @Wrangeld 😂, you really are a tough one to keep up to 😂. @Islam Soliman and @M.Seidam Did a marvelous job attending to all the recoveries and helping other drivers out of sticky situations. Hence allowing us to keep moving without much trouble. Thanks alot.

  27. Hi buddies, thanks everyone for a super day offroading. Today we had a combo pack where the drive pace and the diversity of the terrains were different throughout the drive. We had superb treats while exploration sort of drive from @Janarthan where we had to manuver through bushy areas and some technical patches . We had a strong and capable convoy ready to take up any challenges and with ease we made it to the other side of the road and from there to area 53. After almost 30 min of drive in area 53 it was @Tbone in the lead with more pace and many more ridge rides and criss crossings. I believe We all had the maximum out of today's drive. Thank you @Veedoosheefor the second lead, you were too good and made it easy for me. Wrangler boys @varunmehndirattaand @Javier Lucerohad no issues at all in managing the terrain and the full size trucks @Dodi Syahdarand @amir amiridid very well coz they had to make it through churned up and very soft sand. We had very few refusals and stucks, but dealt with it very fast and we made to the exit 15 min before the mentioned time. Really cool 👏👏👏👍 thank you guys and see you soon. Some pics in the gallery..😊

  28. Thoroughly enjoyed this drive. Driving in the rain and quiet desert at just the right pace to snap photos was amazing and a great way to start the weekend! I've uploaded my photos to the gallery but somehow the colors got mangled 🤔 Anyway if anyone is keen I've put them on a public Google Photos album (with the correct colors) https://photos.app.goo.gl/kmS2zwnrpqgRHhsv5

  44. Good morning @Lakshmi Narasimhan. Just a question. Considering this drive is a Fewbie Plus, with minimum 5 Fewbie drives already completed, can you confirm to me the number of Fewbie drives you have done? According to the latest version of our drive sheet (dated April 25th) you had completed 2 Fewbie drives. I can see you have surely also done at least 2 more drives this weekend, which would add to the total of 4 so far. Have you completed a 3rd drive since April 25th? Just trying to sort this out before I can confirm your participation to this Tuesday's PM drive (just following a rule we apply to all members). Thanks a lot for updating me.

  46. My first desert night drive What an amazing “desert night drive” , it never felt like my first one. Starting from the mosque of murqab ending to my favourite end point in Last exit was a real treat for me and my little copilot along ☺️ The combination of IM and FB has turned this drive officially to a fewbie level drive , as our lead said, which added to the “ night spice “ and in a time the drizzling rain reflected gave the impression as if we were chasing the sky stars ! we faced few refusals Nicely self recovered and two crests both called for our ropes and yet one pop out which was managed in no time. And just before our exit one stuck in a tight pocket that was brilliantly and smoothly managed. in between we drove and sloped , we paused to enjoy the silence ( COVID precautions preserved ) and drove in and out as one team one convoy one spirit in the dark which was split by our bright lights! my son eventually slept just before the end and on his behalf I said thank you for all of you from lead to sweep for this amazing treat under the cloudy sky in the middle of night. Thank you Richard @Wrangeld for another brilliant lead and definitely the night drive is one of them🙏 @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ for your true second lead and re rout when in need. And @Islam Soliman for your effective sweep and tips during pop out😉 @Gaurav Soni @Nithin Vaidir @Thomas Varghese @Shehab Alawadhi @Shaz Shah @Ehab @Fabiano Morais @bony raphi All of you did more than great thanks for the accompany and wish you beautiful week ahead stay tuned for another night drive 😉 cheers 🌷 Mohamed P.S : few pict in gallery

  47. As we have been respecting authorities guidance & Carnity COVID guidelines to resume desert drives with caution by keeping social distance and wearing mask at all times outside the vehicle Unfortunately few off-roaders have difficulty in understanding and abiding these guidelines. As published in the national newspaper of UAE, everyone need to understand that still there are no gatherings allowed and authorities are issuing fine for 10,000 AED for host and 5,000 AED for attendees. https://gulfnews.com/uae/health/people-caught-violating-covid-19-safety-instructions-prosecuted-1.1591381059748 If you spot anyone stepping out of the car not wearing a mask, please remind them on the radio immediately. As we all are in this together, so we all have to help each other to remind. Failing to abide below list of restriction will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club: FIRST WARNING Minimum 1 month ban from joining any Carnity off-road Club drives. Written warning will be issued on your Carnity profile. SECOND WARNING Minimum 6 month ban from joining any Carnity off-road Club drives. Written warning will be issued on your Carnity profile. If you do not like these restrictions, please stay at home and do not join for any off-road drives. Every Carnity Off-road Club Member has to COMPLY WITH THESE COVID19 GUIDELINES FACE MASK IS MANDATORY, WHENEVER YOU STEP OUT - NO EXCUSES. LEARN TO CONFIGURE YOUR RADIO, before the drive. Nobody will teach you or exchange radios like before. Read the detailed instructions posted here - to configure. If you still cannot configure, ask on forum ahead of time.
