  1. Post Drive Report Nice drive this morning with fantastic support from the senior drivers for the less experienced. I would have said 'We drove all night, to get to you...' [Ed: enough of this game] but maybe it just felt that way because the drive started early. We took the dune route to the bowls, which mercifully were not churned up like on my last visit to Margham and had a bit of fun in the bowls. Knowing what was to come, this was not too long. The characteristics of the dunes around this area is that they are small, semi technical and have a lot of soft sand - which was made more challenging by the high winds we have experienced in the last week. It makes for a drive that is challenging in that you need to keep your wits about you, but is not super technical so that it's just a struggle. As Angela said it is a long and winding road, and can be upscaled or made easier depending on the convoy response: and the response was very good. I imagine that @Alfred Alinazar might feel that he had more recoveries today than most - but you need to keep in mind that half the convoy was intermediate drivers who should not be getting stuck on a drive like this. Actually, considering the complexity of the dunes all the newbies and fewbies did extremely well to manage what this drive had to offer. That you've experienced so many self recoveries will be essential as you move on. @SP kALATH I think that you were right to self certify to Fewbie was the right move for you, but you see that as the drives we run will get more challenging it will take time to used to your car again. The crest you suffered was all down to power and momentum not quite being there. @Warren Flay You've given me real insights today about the 'small' changes that can be done to make the float of the car and the response on bumpy terrain a little easier on the vehicle. You drove really well in this new configuration and I am glad you learned a few new things on this drive. @Anoop Nair if there is one piece of essential feedback it's that you really have to think about the fact you are driving in a convoy and that has responsibilities to the other drivers. As far as your driving generally, you have a manual and that means that you have different challenges to some of the other drivers. Making sure you use the flexibility of the having a clutch and leveraging it better is something on which you need to work on future drives. @TT_Dubai my surprise at your choice of drive was matched by how well you drive that beast. I am actually a little envious that you can choose to drive either an SWB or LWB depending on how the mood takes you. And, unless you are a pro (and that's the job), the fact that you also have time to play golf just adds insult to injury. You're welcome to join the pub quiz team any time - your specialty might have to be Sport. @Ishraque Ahammed each drive is a learning experience and the good fortune for you was that you had Alex behind you helping you through every challenge that was faced. There were no serious issues at all, just a need from you to get more confidence in your ability to self recover and use the power under your foot. @Wade Pat2 everyone loves the car and the story and you really are getting to grips with the capabilities. The one towed recovery we did was very well handled as was the rest of the drive. @Lawrence_Chehimi great drive. Probably quite relaxing for you and a chance to continue to refine your control and finesse. I still believe (or perhaps like to believe) it's reassuring for the guys ahead of you in big vehicles to see the way you handle your Y62. @Gaurav Soni your enthusiasm and generosity in helping others throughout the drive is impressive. You restrained the desire to play, playing by assisting the other drivers instead. @Nikibrilliant second lead. Rerouting when needed, keeping the right distance, holding the convoy when needed ... patient. And you picked up the 80s and 90s rock ballads references, because 'Nothing Compares to You'. I'm looking forward to see if any of the action shots you took worked out. @Watteau outstanding support Alex. Listening to your calm, considered, confident support for the other drivers around you is a absolute pleasure. Your most impressive moment: asking for advice from the seniors on the one recovery that you did not feel like you had the experience. I cannot express strongly enough what an unbelievably sensible and impactful moment that was in the drive. There are so many that would simply not have had the wherewithal to stop, think and then say, 'I need your advice'. That's true leadership. @Foxtrot Oscar honoured you'd spend your first support since your promotion supporting this drive. I truly enjoyed your support and knowing that the convoy was in good hands from front to back. It was a nice easy day for you I hope with all the support we had. Thanks everyone of a great drive. I enjoyed my morning. I love the continued learning of helping drivers develop their expertise in this hobby. Thanks for letting me have that opportunity. See you soon in the sand.

  3. Today was a perfect day ( last one I promise), open flowing drive, not too hot, a real mixed convoy, now I see the benefit of mixed convoys, I really enjoy helping out and learning and if possible sharing some knowledge, I learnt today all about Mitsubishi relays and how to get the most out of the Pajero before resorting to external forces. Invaluable. Our good friends Momentum and Commitment were also coming out to play and by the closing stages were in full effect and performing well. We have to remember that what we do is not necessarily natural, our motto of not fighting gravity can be counter intuitive, but once grasped opens the door to improving ones skills. I for one will be signing up for lots more newbies and fewbies, its fun and rewarding. This is what we came for (sorry I lied, Rihanna I think). See you all again soon.

  5. Fabulous drive @Wrangeld I really enjoyed myself and as usual, I learnt as much from watching others difficulties as I did dealing with my own. Your calm leadership style I am sure helped the confidence of the newbies and lowered stress levels all around. If you want to drive my Gadgero at any stage to assess my modifications, you are more than welcome. See you on the next one! Thanks to @Foxtrot Oscar for keeping our tails safe and a special mention to @Watteau as the most patient caring mother hen I have ever driven behind, well done sir!

  6. We Rocked Sweihan This was our 3rd visit to the same area of Sweihan in as many weeks, but endless swath of sand in Sweihan just refuses to disappoint. We pushed, pushed and still kept pushing. Endless side slopes, beautiful rolling dunes, criss crossing and bowls as big as stadium was the overall theme of yesterday's Sweihan drive. To supplement this beautiful terrain we had an amazing set of drivers in @Hasan Wahlan @Ruan van den Heever @Farouq Owdeh and expertly swept by @Chaitanya D. Drivers that were brave and courageous, not afraid to push their cars to the limits. We did stuff that probably we would not have imagined to do on a day drive, and that's the beauty of night drives. Bravo to the entire team of drivers for placing the trust in each other. Big thanks to @Chaitanya D for supporting the drive and keep an eagle eye on the entire convoy. Probably one of the finest night drive I have been a part I look forward to catching up with you guys for another adventure in Sweihan very soon. Till then take care.

  7. @Wrangeld what a wonderful way to spend a morning! Loved this drive (views, climate, 80s pop hits references). A little more challenging than I remember newbie drives so special kudos to the newbie members within the convoy! special mention to @Watteau … a master class for us intermediates in the CF role and general convoy leadership! Clear, calm, patient and such a great approach to motivate and compliment our newbies as they went through their respective recoveries! I tip my hat as you were an out an out winner of our competition (even with the -3000 points for the baked goods fiasco! Love riding on a convoy with you! @Foxtrot Oscar I have to say, in what was the tightest of competitions, you were a slight winner in the 80s/90s power ballads/soft rock references. By the time I had thought of a line/lyric you lot had already moved on!!! I have a lot to learn and Spotify 80s greatest hits is now my go to playlist for future rides with you! @Wade Pat2 absolutely love your ride! It’s pristine … and I hope your new shocks enjoyed the breaking in I have added (to the gallery ) shots I got from the play areas and a few nice perspectives I could catch. Carnity not only has woken up a hobbyist dune basher but has re-woken a past passion for photography… I tried shutter priority to ensure I could keep up with the movement … a few out of focus but in general I hope the pics captured all of your fine cars enjoying that bowl!! @Gaurav Soni I even caught you with 1 wheel in the air!! There were some 💙 cars in our convoy today! thank you all that made this such a fun and enjoyable trip! See you soon!

  19. @Luca Palanca Falsini thank you for a great drive today, we covered close to 40Km in 3.5 Hrs. Appreciate the advice you and @Francois Germishuys shared as well as the encouragement to use manual gear when climbing dunes, the difference was evident and as we drove I felt more comfortable shifting between D to 2nd and 1st gear. @Dodi Syahdar and @N@ved it was a pleasure meeting and driving with you again. Until next time, stay safe and have a great week ahead.

  24. @Wrangeldthanks for another great drive . @Watteaugreat call having me stop from backing into a worse stuck and knowing when to call in more help to figure out the situation. I think it was a good "first stuck". @Nikigreat pics of my old Land Cruiser. Trying my best to keep it stock. Shocks were much better than the old wore out ones. Just when I was running out of things to fix It blessed me with a nice clunking sound from the rear. 😀 I really enjoyed the mixed drive and appreciate the more experienced drivers joining in allowing us to watch and learn.

  35. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.
