  1. Post Drive Report So let's face it. Today was one of those days when not everything goes to plan. I did not start out that way because for more than half the drive everything went spectacularly well - with everyone having great drives and opportunities to learn important skills that every off roader needs. @nivin and me had not had to get out a shovel or rope. Just a few words here or there and problems were solved. And then, in a moment, everything can change. As @Nivin calmy said "we have a situation here" I knew that we had a unique situation. There had been a roll over. As with any case where this happens everyon ran to help out. By the time I was at the vehicle, @AmithJeep was already out of the car, covered in sand, but apparently unscathed. In moments like this, people come way ahead of property and we are all delighted that he is OK. The car was upside down, and in a difficult position, so we exited @keyvan yasini @mikaeel shaik and @Karl Dela Cruz and waited for our colleagues to join so we could use the legendary Carnity teamwork to recover the stricken car. With the incredible input and assistance of @Asif Hussain @Srikumar and @Frederic we got the car upright, running and out of the desert. I joined Carnity for a lot of reasons. One of them was the way that everyone battles together. There may be an I in Carnity, but there's none in team and that's what we demonstrated again today. I am incredibly proud to be part of an organization that rallies together like this, without any hesitation to help out a member. And @AmithJeep kudos to you buddy. You got back in your battered car and drove yourself out of the desert today. There's a lot of people who would not have the heart to do that. See you soon in the sand.

  2. Thanks @marks and @Jeepie fort the L and SL. I enjoyed the drive very much. @Russ very well done in the CF position and on your first rope recovery ! @Tareck @Ben84@darren thompson @Zixuan Huang@Hardik Mody@Sunil Mathew@Warren Flay well done everyone and see you soon on the sand. @Tareck well done on your first Fewbie drive. @Hardik Mody it was tough at the back with the churned up tracks but you were improving with every try. Keep at it and don't forget to announce it on the radio when you have a refusal or re-attempting so the lead can slow down/stop and you don't lose the track.

  5. Hope everyone enjoyed our drive today and possibly improved their driving a bit (i know i did). We started our drive at 5:15am and exited at 9:30am. Got caught in some technical dunes on the way out, and opted to exit earlier than planned so we can stick to our planned finish time. In total we covered 72kms at an average moving speed of 20 km/h, decent speed for a FB drive. Everyone did very well i must say. @Tareck had his first pop-out, which i hope was good learning. @Russ kindly accepted to run as Center Forward, which i believe he enjoyed. And a big thanks to @Jeepieand @Nabil Bishara for their support. Hope to see all you of you again in the sand soon. @Ben84@darren thompson @Zixuan Huang@Hardik Mody@Sunil Mathew@Warren Flay

  6. Thanks @marksfor a technical and challenging drive, I am feeling it in my shoulders already! Lots of nadgery little dunes with sharp crests and soft bowls, slow and intense. Great work from @Russearning his money at CF, I always knew where he was, even if I couldn't see him... BRAAAAAAAAAAPPP! Thanks for sweeping @Nabil Bishara I didn't see much of you but it sounded like you were busy. The sand was chopped up pretty well by the time we tail enders got to it and there were refusals aplenty, all part of the fun.

  7. Thanks everyone for a wonderful way to start the weekend. Being there on time helped us make an early move by 4:45am enjoying a good 25mins of driving in the dark before 🌞 started to reveal itself. We drove for good just a little less than 5 hrs and because of the early start we didn’t suffer any signs of overheating despite of the many recoveries and very sticky soft sand spots we been through.. all of which were managed extraordinary well with your great self recovery skills or on other situations support from the team with little shoveling or tugs.. no pop outs however which is impressive given this terrain which is another sign for your great maneuvering skills. It was a fun drive full of actions but zero drama and I hope you also liked the closure after little sweihan triangle. Below for statistic lovers.. you guys have done a lot there.. hope you liked it. final words of thanks to the great support team I had today with @Mario Cornejo on great 2nd lead and always supportive @Hisham Masaad and Abdelghani and perfect sweep of @Mehmet Volga . A great word of thanks however goes to the whole convoy for not only the great skills showed but also for jumping to support whenever needed while socially distancing and masks on all times.. thanks @JeromeFJ @Darren Brooke @Ranjan Das @RooRzOn @Niki @Matt.T @Rizwanm2 @Danish Mohammad and looking forward for driving with you all soon.

A real "Lord of the Desert"! Thanks for the progressive complexity of the track, the clear security briefing, the stops to admire the life of the desert. Nothing more and nothing less than perfect. Thanks @Veedoosheefor being my guardian angel again. For these initial drives I'm always in the first part of the convoy (which I like it btw) and I now know you are watching over me Start to getting familiar with some of the club members which is great! @Alfred Alinazar @Naim Aoun @Abdul Rafay-S @shu yang @Jamil Abou Assali @Joseph Sebastian @Luc Khaldoun @Mukundan Nair and my brother @Ivan Pironi

  9. Thank you @marks for the selection of terrain today, technical, challenging yet interesting. Had to choose the approching tracks more carefully for the best momentum, as the two leads' cars are both shorter in WB than my car. It's been a complete month since I did my AB newbie drive with @marks, and I hope I have presented decent amount of progress today. Thanks to @Jeepie @Russ @Nabil Bishara for the support and guidance, this drive wouldnt be smooth without your inputs. Till next time!

  11. @Islam Soliman - thank you for having us all in today's drive, it was fun and as you stated in your closing remarks this morning, we had a bit of almost everything and, in spite of the challenges the terrain threw at us, everyone did amazingly well. @Hisham Masaad and @Mehmet Volga thank you for the support throughout the drive and many thanks to all those in the convoy, it was nice to meet and drive with you all. Wish you all a nice rest of the weekend. Stay safe and see you soon on the sand, inshallah!

  14. @Islam Soliman thank you for the intense drive this morning ! As usual, carefully prepared and efficiently delivered ! Excellent combination of different terrains, and finally, the challenge was to handle this sand so so soft... again excellent opportunities for us to practice keeping the momentum. thanks to all in the convoy and particularly @Hisham Masaad @Mehmet Volga and @Niki for the support, always there when needed !

  15. The drive after the drive was the drive. It was one of the most enjoyable drive I had till date. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for the lead. Thank you @Yousef Alimadadi, @Anish S, @Veedooshee, @Kalahari, @Mukundan Nair & @Vanessa8580 for the fantastic drive. I have never driven with drivers executing such precision and excellence throughout the drive. The radio was silent most part and the convoy was moving with such military discipline. Like a raid party going on a mission. Never once the pace increased nor decreased. Never once the convoy stopped. Just kept on driving and driving. The convoy kept moving and moving and moving. But every good thing ends. Our drive also ended. Drove back home with the hang over of that fantastic drive.

Look forward to meet again Hope @Gaurav and @Carnity will have a chance to read my above comment about the web site 😉

  17. Thank you @marks, @Jeepie and @Nabil Bishara for the leads and support on the drive. The drive was more technical rather than an adrenaline pusher, offering great oppurtunities to improve throttle and steering controls, choice of tracks/lines etc and as @Warren Flay mentioned , occasionally "intense" 😀👍. @Russhad his first shot at giving a tug to @Tareck who, with his pop out and stucks , added flavour to the drive. Good job as centre forward Russ, i can see a carnity support team member in the making!! 👍👍 Relive link https://www.relive.cc/view/vPv4GXERYRq

  19. Well done @AmithJeep to keep a cool head throughout the incident and to drive it back out together with us. I am glad that you were in the hands of two of the most amazing senior members of our club that has handled this event perfectly and accepted our help that allowed us to combine forces. As @Wrangeld mentioned we always do our utmost best with the entire team to minimize damage and support where we can. I hope the shattered glass won’t mean shattered dreams of picking up this hobby again. This has been a learning process that many of our sooner or later have to go through. In your case today it was sooner but I have no doubt you’ll come back stronger.

  26. Dear Desert Wanderers, An off-road drive is always a beautiful way to start the weekend and the effort of waking up in the middle of the night is definitely worth the experience. Today's convoy had a good chance to explore the bright sand dunes of Al Qudra and to have a first taste of what driving off-road with @Carnityentails: beautiful landscape with great views, great fun at the steering wheel (or in the passenger's seat) as the iniital fears and hesitation slowly fade away and the chemistry between drivers and vehicles starts to develop, occasional close encounters with gazelles and oryxes. Thank you @Chaitanya D for the nice track chosen today, which progressively increased the technical difficulties as the drivers gained confidence with the terrain, allowing everyone in the convoy, both the real absolute newbies and the ones who had already some previous experience on the sand, to enjoy the ride always in complete safety and making sure everyone was comfortable with the level at all times. From my privileged position as Center Forward, I had eyes on a good part of the convoy and I think we had very a few interesting learning points today worth mentioning. @Roy Armale, you did very well in 2nd lead, carefully following the Marshal's instructions at all times. You even made it to the top of the long climb that we later decided to skip: as you realized by yourself, momentum is key in such situation; with time all drivers will gain confidence and understand when pushing a bit more is a necessity. Well done! @Clay Neddo, your past off-roading experience, even if in different terrains, was definitely recognizable. You always managed well, with a couple of refusals at tricky spots, all self-recovered, promptly applying instructions from the team. I heard you saying you didn't believe it was possible to get out of one those situations.. You'll discover your Pajero can do way more than you think it capable of! Today, for example, a good takeaway for everyone was that, in a refusal situation, doing a bit of full left - full right steering (which displaces the sand at the sides of your front wheels) can do wonders. @sachin suvarna, it was very clear this wasn't your first time in the sand. You managed your Pathfinder very well, nice and smooth throughout the drive. Kudos! @Simon Ducos, I guess you had experienced some desert off-roading, probably as a passenger, with your father. For the portion of the drive when you were in front of me I could see you handled your Fortuner with confidence. An excellent start. @Haris Javed, yours is a very difficult car to drive off-road: very capable, but not easy, as it it powerful, but big, long and heavy. I have learned off-roading on my Nissan Patrol Y62 as well and I loved it; it will take some practice to learn how to control the fishtailing and how to avoid abusing the great power you have under the hood, while making friends with momentum and gravity. I could already see you were starting to learn how to countersteer when fishtailing (i.e. steering counterintuitively in the direction of your tail when it goes sideways): in a few drives you do this more instinctively and learn how to combine it with a bit of gas to correct the situation better. Then you will start discovering the full potential of your great car. An excellent debut for a true absolute newbie! With @Haris Javed and myself the whole convoy also had the opportunity to learn another important lesson today: if the car behind you is not in your rear view mirror, announce it and hold, otherwise the risk is that whoever follows you, regardless of how experienced he/she may be, may lose his/her way, as it happened with me today, when I chased the wrong tracks not having seen in which direction you had gone while I was helping another car behind to get unstuck. Equally, if a stuck is announced, it means a recovery is required, which will take time: in this case, again, it is advisable to stop on a flat area and wait. @arjumand, your car is a legendary off-roader, greatly respected in the UAE, and is a beauty to see. It will do amazing things with you at the steering wheel very soon, when you will start learning how it behaves on the sand. As with Haris, controlling your fishtailing will be one of your main achievements along with getting to understand how to be gentle on your throttle. You have good A/T tires, which you could probably deflate down to a bit less than 15psi (maybe 12psi, which will allow a larger foot print of the tire and therefore more traction), from which you'll certainly benefit in soft stand, which is where you struggled a bit today. @Vikas Bhatia, I had you in my rear mirror all the time and I appreciated your cautious driving: you kept your own pace whenever you felt you had to slow down a little bit, but you came across the most challenging spots unscathed. Your few stucks and refusals happened at tricky spots, and made you learn three important things: first, momentum is key, as in both occasions you lost it and stopped in a moment of hesitation; second, power is not your friend when having a refusal, as too much spinning will make you dig yourself more in the sand and third, stuck happens and recovers with tugs are absolutely part of the game; if you don't get stuck while learning, it means you ar not challenging yourself enough. Very well done!! Behind Vikas I had little visibility. I guess @Brette@Brette, whose great and experienced support was key at the back, will be able to add more precious comments on @Marwan Haddad and@Roy Dsouza. @hasan hamadeh I guess today you learned that no matter how strong your F150 may be, the desert can be stronger... Hopefully your car's worrying noise will be an easy fix: very well done when driving out your car with limited traction. Another important lesson for the day, especially in tricky situations like the one Hasan faced, when forced to drife in 2WD, is radio communication: listening carefully to instructions and executing manouvers accordingly is key for successful recoveries. Kudos to everyone for an excellent start of your off-roading adventure. I look forward to driving again toghether!

  27. I am sorry (well actually not) but our friend @Islam Soliman has caught the virus! He is at early stages however I don’t see a path back for him! It only took a quick ‘peek’ into @Hisham Masaad trunk and he has been corrupted/infected (even when practicing covid precautions) .. The pic below, I caught him red handed and he tried to run away from the shot… he still hadn’t individually inflated all his tires and the fuses where still waiting to be refit … instead he was in deep in discussion about Hisham’s gadgets, accessories, trunk of wonders let’s see who else will be seduced by Hisham’s trunk of wonders 🤣 Warm welcome to the club Islam… here for you as you take your first steps to comfort!

  28. @Islam Soliman what a special ride today! As everyone has already shared - the route planning and execution was superb… you gave us such a variety of experiences! THANKYOU for extending the ride to fit in the rollercoaster ride and Baja race (I only got to 83kmp/h … I demand a rematch) @Mario Cornejo flawless again and as always… he is simply the best student in the class! @Hisham Masaad everyone knows you as the most generous and supportive member … today we got to see another side … the showman! You got yourself in super soft sand helping other, rev’d up to dig yourself in more so the seniors would come circle you to support …. And then when you had an audience, you just floated out effortlessly… taking the applause! 🤣👏🏽 @Mehmet Volga many thanks for the support at the back throughout! I want to call out @JeromeFJ … I learnt he is still on stock everything including the tires and just a massive kudos for how is handling everything with the grandtreks … near the back end of the convoy, managing every challenge… a role model ‘driving stock’ … when you do move to true AT tires you will appreciate more than most! and less that said about @Darren Brooke 7’ shovel the better … he could almost stay in his car while shoveling with that thing (I have shovel envy!) great convoy supporting each other when needed and seeing old friends again was a joy!

  31. Today was quite another experience. Bright and early we ventured to the starting point. Just reaching the location asked some dune bashing to a certain extent. 😄 Half a tar road, half a sand dune. Deflated, flags up. We thought we would go dune bashing.....🧐 savanna touring instead. And then the bowl came. What an experience. This was the first time the marshalls let us loose in a proper bowl. And what a feeling it was. Thank you very much. @Asif Hussain took the lead and demonstrated the technique. What follwed was an hour or so of pure exhilirating fun. We cut our fun short to asist elsewhere, helping a driver in need. Thank you for allowing me along, and letting me help with fixing a popout. Simply being present tough me a great deal and simply noticing everything happening help grew my experience. Inshallah, I shall never need to use it, not for myself nor for someone else. Thank you to all the marahalls for a great morning. @Frederic thank you for a great lead filled with fun.
