  1. Yes, we have seen the fences being installed over the last couple of months and heard rumours. Last week on our Mahafiz drive we avoided this area due to the fences, and we should stay out of it. With the amount of people littering all over the place and disturbing this area, it was bound to happen and i am in a way happy that they have fenced it off for preservation. There are plenty other areas for us to play in.

  5. After looking far and wide for the LTX Force (and comparing costs), I finally pulled the trigger on the Yokohama Geolandar GO15s running the same profile as my H/Ts at 275/65/R17. @PaoloMaraziti, @Gaurav, @Christopher Assal, @M.Seidam, @Niki, @topgear, @Mario Cornejo and @Srikumar - thank you all for your valuable advice, and for deliberating with me through to my decision. Much appreciated ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  11. @Gaurav Lol ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿคฃ @PaoloMaraziti I am proudly wearing @Ahab Shamaa shocks mentioned when this thread started .. these were the Fox 2.5โ€ DSC external reservoir shocks! I benefited from his heavy weight front end (talking about the car I promise!) .. his bumper, winch and lights passed the rated weight for the coil over fronts so Ahab did an Ahab, wasted no time and upgraded further! He now wears dual shock external bypass radflo setup.! Iโ€™ll allow him to share his experience but what I can state - never seen him smile as much in his car than recentlyโ€ฆ jumping, climbing and looking even more menacing! as for the Foxโ€ฆ I absolutely love these and the adjustability is legitimate and allows for an easy tarmac setting and then dialed up in a few seconds for the dunes. Not planning for a change in bumper or a winch yet so see these as my long term companion. Massive improvement vs my stock FJC!

  15. That's an absolute shame. But I see exactly why too. Of all the drives I've been on between Dubai & Sharjah, it's one of the most scenically stunning places, but every time we've been out for a drive, it's been littered with trash. The base of Pink Rock, a few weeks ago looked like it was the scene of an overnight festival.

  24. Yes - itโ€™s just a few seconds per wheel and no tools needed. There are two dials on each shock that can be turned with your hand (recommend gloves) and they control high speed and low speed compression.

  29. @Mohammed Mansoor Thanks for signing up for this drive, but it looks like you will complete your Absolute Newbie drive with Carnity in Friday - which is essential before you sign up for any other drive. Here is the link to that drive: I see you are signed up for this. @Ale Vallecchi will confirm your attendance after the drive and then we can allow you to have your second drive of the weekend in this drive. I will add you back into this drive.

  32. Dear soon to be Desertnauts. @Muhammad Omair, @Manish Kashyap, @Mohammed Mansoor and @Arijit Bhattacharyya, Welcome to Carnity! As you are aware of, this is a drive strictly for who has never been off road with Carnity. In preparation for it, it is important that you inform us if: you have any prior off-road experience; your vehicle has front and rear tow hooks / eyelets; if your car has the required ground clearance of min. 8 inches (21 cm) between the ground and its bumpers/undercar. Before joining the drive on Friday morning, you will need to have viewed the introductory videos (links above). Please also make sure you are equipped with a tire deflator and a tire pressure gauge (sometimes they are all in one tool). You will need these. If you have an off-road flag as well that would he great. In case you do not have a flag mount on your car, you may look for a flag with suction cups, which can be easily placed on one of the rear windows. Even if the drive should end near a gas station, where they have an air compressor, if you have your own please bring it along, as it may be quicker than waiting in line. So, to recap, useful tools to carry would be: tire deflator (must) tire pressure gauge (must) off-road flag air compressor All these items should be available at any ACE or Speedex store, as well as at Dragon Mart. Regarding the area of the drive, we will access the desert from an entry point along the road going from Qudra Parking (where you can use the ADNOC gas station to fill up your tank), toward the Bab al Shams Resort. Follow carefully the Google Maps directions: once you turn off the tarmac road (after circling a roundabout next to a mosque), you will cross through the bike track, and an opening between roadworks being done along the bike track. Once arrived at the meeting point, we'll conduct a final inspection of your cars (sufficient clearance and accessible tow points are a must, without which you'll be turned back). Following a detailed technical briefing, we'll be ready to enter the dunes, and start your off-roading adventure. This area is rarely used by other clubs, and the sand is much cleaner ad smoother, so this is an ideal ground to move your first steps in the desert. Any new member who's planning to join this introductory drive, please contact me on this thread for any preparatory question. In the meantime have a great rest of the week.

  33. Haha donโ€™t worry, we will try our best to accommodate all. With many driving on the Friday we may well have drop outs , which is usually the case on a Saturday. So letโ€™s wait and see before you start splashing cash and offering dinner ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคฃ

  37. Hey @Zed, congrats on your new purchase ๐Ÿ˜€ I love anything Toyota ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป I can tell you from experience, the tires are the best and first change I ever did on my FJ. I went from BF Goodrich (which were still practically new), to the Yokohama Geolandar. The difference is night and day on the drive. The BFGs, being so heavy and with thick walls to resist punctures while rock crawling, just wouldnโ€™t deflate and mold themselves to the sand as nicely as the Yokos do. Now, I abuse the crap out of the Yokos, and in turn, they just deliver pure performance ๐Ÿ˜€ I highly recommend them. I went with same size as my stock tires 275/16r. I could have gone to the 285s as my rims permit that, but I think bigger tires would have robbed me of a little horsepower; which is a commodity Iโ€™m not willing to sacrifice. You know people on forums recommend stuff based on their own experience. An excellent tire like the Goelandar, will perform great no matter what car itโ€™s on. Frankly, I find it absurd that people suggest that a car responds better off-roading to a particular brand of tires. Itโ€™s not like the Geolandar is gonna wake up one day and tell itself, oh, Iโ€™m intalled on a LC? Iโ€™d better perform poorly because FJ or Pajero is where I wanna be ๐Ÿคฃ You can tell Iโ€™m biased and opinionated ๐Ÿ˜€ Second mod, would be the bash plates. Not only do they protect the guts of your truck, theyโ€™ll also make the vehicle โ€˜sand-dynamicโ€™ and more prone to sliding on crests and downhill as the bottom of the car becomes a smooth flat surface. Regarding bash plates, I would say get at least 8mm thickness. The cheap ones are thin and donโ€™t protect. They might look good, but theyโ€™re only for show... After these two changes, the sky is the limit. I personally opted for a heavy breather air filter, better exhaust, and a cold air intake snorkel. I also installed a Pedal Commander for better responsiveness (works so good btw). All those mods gave me a tiny bit of extra horsepower, and the car is more relaxed under duress and performs a bit better tackling the dunes. My most recent modification, after a long, long time off-roading (kidding, Iโ€™v only been off-roading since October last year ๐Ÿคฃ) is the suspension. It was a bit expensive, but definitely worth it. The FJ is not as โ€˜bouncyโ€™ as before, and I am much more comfortable driving on the worst cross tracks. The drive is much smoother ๐Ÿ˜€ In any event, thatโ€™s my experience so far. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll find your own path down modification lane ๐Ÿ˜€ P.S. Rims/wheels like method bead locks look great, but I would save my money for other crucial mods ๐Ÿ˜€ Good tires will spare you from buying new rims. The Yokohamas do not pop out, even used, abused and deflated to 8 PSI๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป
