  2. Dear Desert Champions, Here is the update on what to expect on the 19 Nov 2021 to identify the real champions (team). Based on my off-roading experience since 2006 in participating and designing such events, I like to share my two cents before revealing the plan to set the tone. For the sake of winning, of course, only one team will win, but for me personally, all participants will be true champions: If you can complete the whole course "safely" without any damage or accidents. If you can control your temptations, frustration, anger and rise above the game. If you can think it through in most difficult situations and still keep moving. If you can continue to keep a "razor-sharp" focus all the time consistently. If you can strike a balance as a good team player with sporting spirit. Revealing the Game Plan. All teams will be given 5-way points to cover however they like to target and approach. Roughly as per the below plan (almost finalized). Red is the starting point. You can start from left, right or center, however, you wish if it's more approachable, doable, less treacherous, less monstrous, less technical etc. No matter how well you plan in the beginning, you and your lead will always have to re-align the focus as per moving target to go with dunes construction, topography and sizes. So you will have lots and lots of fun at every waypoint to talk, discuss, and gather your thoughts as a good team does (sometimes). No masking tapes are allowed. These all points have been strategically positioned to cause "immense" confusion and temptations with endless permutations and combinations to test each team's strength and mental readiness of true champions. You are free to run any military-grade, tactical, navigational devices, apps and gadgets to find the shortest, sweetest path. Please remember it's just a fun and entertaining event to celebrate a true desert champion in you or in somebody else, so please keep it happy, keep it safe and keep it healthy.

  9. @Chaitanya D thanks for organising the drive which worked we for me with the shifts I'm now on. Was also starting to enjoy @Hisham Masaadtaking the taking the partial lead which I'm sure went very well. Sadly I had to leave after my tie rod decided to part company with my axle though happily it didn't delay the drive as we were all near the road. Hope you all had a great drive.

  22. Dear soon to be Desertnauts @Suresh K, @Asem Rashwan, @Mohammed Ismail, @Azeem M, @Jean Jarjoura, @Arijit Bhattacharyya, @Mo Moharam - Welcome to Carnity! As you are aware of, this is a drive strictly for who has never been off road with Carnity. In preparation for it, it is important that you inform us if: you have any prior off-road experience; your vehicle has front and rear tow hooks / eyelets; if your car has the required ground clearance of min. 8 inches (21 cm) between the ground and its bumpers/undercar. Before joining the drive on Friday morning, you will need to have viewed the introductory videos (links above). Please also make sure you are equipped with a tire deflator and a tire pressure gauge (sometimes they are all in one tool). You will need these. If you have an off-road flag as well that would he great. In case you do not have a flag mount on your car, you may look for a flag with suction cups, which can be easily placed on one of the rear windows. Even if the drive should end near a gas station, where they have an air compressor, if you have your own please bring it along, as it may be quicker than waiting in line. So, to recap, useful tools to carry would be: tire deflator (must) tire pressure gauge (must) radio (recommended) off-road flag (recommended) air compressor All these items should be available at any ACE or Speedex store, as well as at Dragon Mart (at this latter location you can find especially the radios, where I advise you ask to set on manual inputs - you can memorize the channels later, as Carnity uses channels which are different from the ones that are usually memorized at Dragon Mart's outlets). Regarding the area of the drive, we will access the desert from an entry point along the road going from Qudra Parking (where you can use the ADNOC gas station to fill up your tank), toward the Bab al Shams Resort. Follow carefully the Google Maps directions: once you turn off the tarmac road (after circling a roundabout next to a mosque), you will cross through the bike track, and an opening between roadworks being done along the bike track. Myself and @marks will be waiting for you. Once arrived at the meeting point, we'll conduct a final inspection of your cars (sufficient clearance and accessible tow points are a must, without which you'll be turned back). Following a detailed technical briefing, we'll be ready to enter the dunes, and start your off-roading adventure. This area is rarely used by other clubs, and the sand is much cleaner ad smoother, so this is an ideal ground to move your first steps in the desert. Any new member who's planning to join this introductory drive, please contact me on this thread for any preparatory question. In the meantime have a great rest of the week.

  39. Drive report Thanks for joining this drive Sudhanva Sonawane @Sudhanva Sonawane Harshad Ashraf @Harshad Ashraf frederic demolder @frederic demolder Vishal Nair @Vishal Nair Shams Bin Majeed @Shams Bin Majeed Marcin Wronowski @Marcin Wronowski Goh KP @Goh KP munkybizness @munkybizness Rizwanm2 @Rizwanm2 Immense thanks to Rizwan @Rizwanm2and Mayank @munkybiznessfor supporting this drive. Having you was a reassurance that all was well in your watchful eyes. As you all drove really well , most of the issues were sorted with simple shovel and gear changes. Pajero guys need to sort your transmission heating lights, which come up especially when you push your car and in this Area 53 , you end up doing that due to the challenging terrain. And to add a skid plate or cover at the back so that the rear bumper doesn’t scoop a lot of sand which will invariably come off. More Info in the link below ( for transmission heating in Pajeros) Some more information on skid plates for pajero in links below Driver of the day was @Shams Bin Majeed accepting to do 2nd lead in the nick of time and driving really well. Great to see how you recovered from a side slope with simple shovel and manual “blip blip” crawl. @Vishal Nair used his 4L and diff locks to get out of situations , easily done. Hope you get your rear bumper issues fixed . @Marcin Wronowski did well except for a smallish dune cross, probably due to lack of momentum or the weight considering the passengers inside your car ( perfectly ok). Why I tell this is even a single extra kilo in your car matters as you progress in your drive levels, and you have to adjust your maneuvering/momentum accordingly. @Sudhanva Sonawane did well in his montero, hope you get your flag next time around. It is a mandatory requirement. @frederic demolder welcome back after a hiatus, drove really well considering the soft terrain and churned sands. It is all the driver matter behind the wheel and your experience did the trick for you. @Goh KP did well in his SWB pajero. You have a great car and with more drives and experience you will definitely become a better driver on sand. We learn with each drive @Harshad Ashraf was slightly shy of gas in earlier sections, but as the drive progressed you did well considering you were at the back. You all did really well in this difficult terrain, considering the soft sand and super churned tracks. Very nice to see your energetic smiles even when you have some refusals and stucks. Some more pictures uploaded in the gallery See you all some time soon.
