  1. @Mario Cornejo since i am a certified Emergency First Responce Master trainer I think i should organise with @Gaurav and @Frederic to conduct a couple of First Aid courses within the carnity family. The Most important part of the EFR courses is the injury assessment and accident control part.

  2. The medical kits sold in pharmacies seem complete, but I am curious if there are comments about what we usually find in them and what items could be added. Perhaps, could we get suggestions from those members who practice medicine, Drs. @Chaitanya D and @M.Seidam, or anyone else working in the healthcare sector directly or as supplier? Nothing beats prevention, safety and awareness of your surroundings, but accidents may happen: while driving, recovering a car, even whilst sitting around a bonfire, it is with these scenarios in mind that kept me wondering whether the items in a basic first aid kit are enough. Furthermore, fact is that is not just about having the "tools" but knowing how to use them, does anyone know of first aid trainings available in UAE? Thanks in advance!

  4. Dear Desertnauts. @Bernard Kalaani, @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil, @Rsjiv Samuel, @Mohamad Anwer, @Adhir Saxena, @Thomas Varghese, @Naim Aoun and @Santoso Marjuki, welcome to this Mid-week drive. Just a few pointers, before handing out the convoy numbering, tomorrow afternoon. As mentioned in the drive's presentation, "Il Te' nel Deserto" is the original title of "The Sheltering Sky" a 1990 award winning movie by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, with Debra Winger and John Malkovich. Immediately after WW2 a couple arrives in Northern Africa, and ventures into the desert, travelling eventually as far as Niger, on a camel caravan route. Everyone in Italy has heard about the movie, which became very famous worldwide thanks to its stunning photography (by Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro) and the sound-track, also by Oscar winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (you can look it up as The Sheltering Sky Soundtrack on Spotify). As you'll have guessed, the Italian title means "A Tea in the Desert", and as such it has become a catchphrase, used referring to any outing to any desert (usually by Italian tourists visiting Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt or other friendly desert destinations). In this case, I have thought of making our own caravan, from Qudra's oasis, across a mix of terrains, to reach the date palm trees of Ganthoot, under which we will enjoy our own "tea in the desert" just before sunset. Besides dunes, small natural springs, mud formations, sabkhas and palm trees, we'll see oryx (usually quite a lot in the Ganthoot area), so bring your camera (and become your own Oscar winning photographer), download a suitable soundtrack (the original one or otherwise), and carry your own favorite brand and blend of tea (or coffee), to have toward the end of the drive, under a lonely palm tree, miraculously surviving amidst the sand. It will be a great and relaxing beginning of the long National Holiday weekend. Final update, convoy numbering and radio channel, coming tomorrow.

  5. Thanks @Mario Cornejo for bringing up this topic .Generally for cuts and injuries , most kits have the materials needed i woukd definitely advise to keep few tablets of antacids - nexium or pantop and anti motion sickness (Dramamine) meds. Along with some glucose or sugar especially if you are diabetic. Having said that paramedics (especially with the ambulance) generally have much better knowledge than me as I am a practicing surgeon (exclusive for hand and microsurgery) who sees patients well after they have been stabilized.

  7. @Looper @Josh T. @Gok Krish @Karthikeyan Govindarajan @Zed @Chris Wing @Xavier Treasurer @Hasan Wahlan @Mus_hus78 Welcome to the Carnity Annual Liwa Expedition. Few key pointers (MUST READ) Every car should have 100 liters of fuel in the fuel tank or with additional jerry cans. If you show up at the meeting point and looking for a fuel station, that means you've missed the initial post to read and will also miss this drive, as we won't hold the convoy for 30-45 minutes. This is an Fewbie Plus level drive so expect a fast-paced and action-oriented drive filled with adrenal pumping fun. So make sure everything in your car - boot and passenger seat is secured, fastened, or strapped. Get enough sleep in advance, to stay focused especially after 3-4 hours of drive. Lighter car is better for this level drive No early exit for 1 car. So be yourself fully ready for an 8+ hour drive and also make sure your passenger understands that in this route there is no early exit. DRIVE PREPARATION To ensure that everyone has a fun and safe Liwa trip it's important that you go through the below checklist : 1. Please ensure that you are there at the meeting point at 7:30 AM sharp. Latecomers would be sent back. 2. Firstly, get lots and lots of rest the previous day. The more the better as Liwa will not only challenge your vehicle but your mind as well. We would need your complete focus and fatigue due to less rest is the last thing that is needed on such a terrain. For those who prefer camping the previous night, you can do so at the starting point as it's a nice spaced-out area. Bring some firewood in case if you wish to have a bonfire to keep you warm. Cleaning up after the bonfire is mandatory. 3. Ensure that your 4x4 is well serviced recently and all the lubes and fluids are topped up. 4. 20 Liter / 40-liter fuel jerry can is needed depending on your vehicle. If you have any doubts, please post your query on the drive post and we will assist. 5. A full fuel tank at the meeting point. 6. Spare tire should be in good working condition. If not been used recently, ensure that you take it out and check the condition properly. Also, ensure that you have the wrench that can be used to remove your tire (if needed). In the past, we have seen that people upgrade their tires but still keep the original wrench which is of no use to remove the upgraded tire. So please ensure that your car has the right tool to remove your car tires (if needed). 7. Bring along your breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc in easy-to-eat packing. We shall be having breaks in between the drive. 8. Dry food, energy bar, cookies, nuts, crisp to munch while driving. 9. Bring garbage bags along to carry your trash. Littering in the desert is strictly prohibited. Keep checking this list, as it might grow further in the coming days. All the above points are Mandatory and your participation on the drive would be refused on the drive day by the trip lead if you fail to comply with the above. Special welcome thank to my manage team for joining my drive. @Shaaz Sha @Jeepie See you all in sand

  8. Dear Liwa Wanderers, kiranshinde @kiranshinde AlexM @AlexM Vaibhav @Vaibhav Pacific @Pacific Daniel Rodas @Daniel Rodas Waqas Parvez @Waqas Parvez Welcome - we are the Fewbie team for the drive on Wednesday. With the support of @Jeepie and @Niki it looks like we have a great day of adventure before us. A word of caution: This will, in some ways be an exploration drive. I did not yet lead in this area so we need to be prepared for anything that might come our way. Housekeeping - please look at the post above. It's essential your vehicle is in good condition before we leave. We will be out the whole day, there are no easy and quick exit routes, like in other drives. Once you're in, you're in. It will be grueling on car and driver, and the sands in the Liwa area are deceptive. There are humungous dunes and long descents. If someone is at the top of a dune that we descended with a problem, we cannot quickly and easily reroute and come back. That's why we are so lucky to have the support on this drive we do. It will instill confidence in me to know that there are such experienced drivers in the convoy. I will be deciding on the final convoy order on the day of the drive, depending on whether there are people that don't make it to the start and identifying the best position in the convoy for everyone. PLEASE - if one of you has a winch, let me know. It's good to know this from the outset in case it's needed and that also helps determine where you might be in the convoy. Otherwise, Liwa, Yellow truck is almost a right of passage drive. The sights we get to see are quite stunning so bring your cameras. We will be stopping for photo breaks and food breaks when needed as well as taking a bit of time out just to enjoy the nature around us. We will also hopefully get to see the rare black racing Camels in the farms we pass on the way in (for anyone wondering they are actually native Australia). Please post any questions you have here. Otherwise, see you soon in the sand.

  17. We have tried and failed to do proper Liwa crossing in 2017, 18 and 19 with endless fencing from military area, oil and gas and conservation fence. Now the recent one are the seismic study bull-dozer track. As above track is issued by DCTAD, it looks promising and worth trying again.
