  1. @Gaurav thank you Gaurav and Carnity Review Team for your support. Started with Carnity 11 months after being pushed by my boys to get better at off-roading; I still have a lot to learn from the masters. Thank you all for your continuous push and guidance. Cheers

  5. My first drive in over a month, and what better way to take the edge off than a night drive with Doc @Chaitanya D. I also haven't been to the gym in over a month - thank you for taking care of that too 😛 The last time I was in Sharjah, at night, was at least a couple of months ago with Srikumar where we encountered very similar challenges to the one we faced last night. Of course, that was a higher-level drive in the Area 53 side of the Sharjah's dunes. But the results were not too dissimilar. And I don't think any driver should be thinking too hard about any of the refusals last night. These are all part of the process in offroading. It was great experience in learning how to do complex recoveries including self-recovery, tethered support, and the tugs of course. So much on the learning agenda in one night. What was extremely surprising and perhaps one of the largest challenges as I followed Doc, was that while the climb up to the top of the dune was hardened, there were deposits of soft sand at the top on seemingly flat surfaces. This required a change in driving styles as most of us let off the power just as about half the chassis clears the top of a dune. Thank you Doc, for giving us the opportunity to still play around at Big Red in the wee hours of the morning. I also felt so much more comfortable returning to the sand in the presence of so many familiar faces, names, and of course the supremely more capable support peers in @Waqas Parvez & @Rajiv Sam. Having you gents around takes the edge off @Dinesh Kumar A - most of your refusals were down to just a general hesitation in powering through. This will go away as you get more comfortable, or blind 😛 @Andrei S - seeing you sideways in the first 30 minutes was quite a sight. I'm certain that the mood inside the cabin was a lot more tense but you handled that supremely well. You worked hand-in-hand with Doc's advice and the result was a recovery executed perfectly. @Felix Obst, @Ashutosh Garg: great driving all around. For all the other familiar faces, thank you for making my night back out so much fun. See you all out on the sands soon! [ 🐵 ]

  6. Drive report @ exploration : Early morning …Taking the beautiful E55 Shuwaib road heading north toward our meeting point at Adnoc gas station for about 15 km. The peacefully palm boarded road on either side ignited my vivid imagination of how our day will turn out . Truth is I discovered later that the reality was far more beautiful than fantasy! on time after we met we moved ( about 1 km ) toward our deflation point . By the time we were done and we started moving the breathtaking sun rise from behind the Rocky Mountains of Oman portrayed such a stunning image in our imagination background. luckily the magnet went along our initial intended route pulling us toward it in steady climb up and down till we reached the sabkha which comes parallel with fenced Omani/UAE boarders and the southern part of wadi Alshuwaib belonging to Oman where the north west of it belong to UAE AD . To climb up straight was not successful as the sand was super soft and the incline pretty steep so we took a “cheat route” exploring what was behind before we continue further Our next encounter was a huge dune with steep long slip face reaching it from behind through climbing a technical strip which was not easy but not impossible to navigate it locally especially when you have with you such a bunch of explorers who crave for such adventures 😊 Moving on crossing some beautiful farms and dunes ,which it’s vegetations and the sand color and consistency reminded me of mahafez , till we reached our first coffe break stop at what I call “fish farm” yes the artificial pond had lots of fish 😅 After that we kept on top of the ridges as long as possible avoiding the shrubs and plants below and all the time the rocks were east and in some spots we found many trees 🌲 at the valley of the dunes background what a magnificent scenic relaxation for the eye. heading more south along big reserve fence then we detoured to discover what we called “ mini little Sweihan “ and here I let to stretch our legs bit relying to navigate locally with vigilance off course and that was epic When they say the beautiful time passes like a blink of a second I say so is life so let’s live the moment and enjoy it. And we did to content of our hearts. unfortunately time is about to run so quickly and we had to prepare for exit leaving the further south till Hyer for part II exploration soon inshallah . upon request of all we took a pause for some pictures on our way to the final point where we started this morning . Points to mention in summery of this exploratory trip : 1. The area we drove in by all means needed undivided attention and certain skill level definitely attained to at least Fb+ if not IM level 2. there are many reserves and farms fenced and unfenced areas which are not even available on the maps. ( marked ) 3. Lots of free wild life around with lots of trees and vegetations ( north to middle part ) with beautiful scenery 4. unexpected surprises are always there ( twice I faced a fence in tight spots bordering deeper pockets ) luckily managed by rerouting with no incidents . 5. the very few refusals and self recoveries with no ropes needed speaks of how every one today including my self took the challenge seriously and cautiously and I admire all of you for that. Dear @Mohamad Anwer , @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler, @Fabien Monleau , @James Thorn and @Anoop Nair thank you a ton for coming enjoying exploring the unknown together it was for me one of an unforgettable Memorial Day . till we meet again hopefully in part II take care and drive safe cheers 👍

  8. @Ahmad Shaker, it will come down to your usage & needs: 1. If your car is a daily driver + you spend all your time in the desert: Yokohama Geolandars G015 is a great tyre. The softer compound makes them a dream to drive on-road and float offroad. You can also use it for some light loose rock driving. Having owned the G015s, I love their on-road performance and their soft pliability in the dunes but now that I'm beginning to venture more into the hills and rocky terrain, I don't trust them there so much. 2. If your car is going to spend an equal or >30% of the offroad time in Wadis and rocky environments, you will need a tyre with a stronger sidewall. The BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 is a crowd favorite on this front. This tyre is heavier than the Geolandars so if you only do desert driving, you will lose acceleration to better grip. The KO2s are also noisier than the Geos on-road. Yokohama also makes a X-AT (Extreme, All-Terrain) tyre which I'm very keen to review.

  13. Drive Plan Drive is being planned as a follow up to same theme FB+ drive organized couple of weeks back. It was a drive full of action and adventure. With Intermediate level, we plan to go much more higher and much more faster. Ambition to spend as much time as we can at an elevation of 200mtr above sea level, hence, the theme Checkpoint 200. See you all at Area 53, as we get set to explore some of the highest of dunes, sharpest of ridges and sweetest of bowls in Sharjah. General Overview This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. MUST READ AND TOTALLY AGREE: COVID19 Precautions Ban from Carnity Off-road Club Two Way Radio Guidelines Drive Details Level: Intermediate & above. 15. Dear Sand Sailors Thanks for RSVPing for the drive. Believe @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler has already summed up how fast the slots went through - really appreciate the response and i am hoping we will be as swift during the drive as well Area 53 is one of my fav GOTO place when in need for that additional adrenaline shot. Dunes in Sweihan are surely higher. However, its the shape and irregular contours of the dunes that brings out that mixed/confused sense of accomplishment and humility at same time, after every drive in this area. With 5 days to go for this drive, lets get to the business.. This terrain is going to demand some clear ground rules and preparation. So, lets be sure about the same before we land up at meeting point on sunday. To put things in perspective, Faya's highest point is 223mtr above sea level and plan here is to spend most of our time 200mtr above sea level - so it will be like climbing Big Red & Faya over and over again, at a fast pace. a.) This area demands exceptional Radio communication skills. One miss communication and the whole convoy can be stuck for a long haul. So, please make sure you are very comfortable managing radio. 1. No Radio = No Drive. 2. No sufficient battery in radio = No drive 3. Missed communication and we might have to exit the driver. I am sure you all appreciate that safety is paramount. b.) Unless fully convinced about yours and your vehicle's climbing ability, avoid passengers for this drive. Keep the vehicle light and your mind free of any distractions. I can assure you, this is not a drive which passengers will cherish. c.) Please make sure your vehicle is in perfect shape. You will need all the power that it possess through this drive. d.) Ensure you have all your off-roading gears in perfect condition. e.) Coming back after a long break from sand - in general my advice is always to go for FB+ or FB drive, before going ahead for Int. drive. Ofcourse, this is just a recommendation based on experience. f.) Above all you need to ensure that you are fully rested for the drive. So, plan all parties for friday (not saturday night) 😀 Another, key element - based on my experience in this area, i am not going to extend the convoy size on this drive. We have 8 drivers on WL, so please ensure that if your plan changes or you are not sure about your plans, please update the RSVP well in time - lets ensure we don't lose a slot while we have a long WL.. Thanks for your understanding. @Vaibhav @ASAD. @Ahmad Shaker @Charbel @Waqas Parvez @Fabien Monleau @James Thorn @Imteeaz @Morshedi @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler @Looper WL (not in any order) : @Mohamad Anwer @Gok Krish @Simon Dawood @MMansoor @Zixuan Huang - Charlie @Anoop Nair @Daniel Rodas @Daniel Yang Looking forward to see you all this sunday. Have a nice week ahead.

  22. During its first use, a new winch rope must be spooled onto its drum under a load of at least 450 kgs. If the winch has been used and the winding has not been done under load this process needs to be followed again. Do it after every use so that you have a chance to inspect the rope as well as there are no overlaps. Use the following instructions to properly stretch the winch rope onto the winch drum. 1. Choose a FLAT AND LEVEL location that is large enough to run out almost the entire length of winch rope. 2. Disengage clutch on the winch & grasp hook strap and spool out the winch rope to the last 5 wraps on the drum (10 wraps if synthetic rope). 3. Once the winch rope is spooled out, engage winch clutch. 4. Attach the hook end of the rope to a suitable anchor point. 5. Back the vehicle away from the anchor point until there is very little slack in the winch rope. 6. Set the parking brake, place the vehicle in park & exit the vehicle, power-in the winch until all of the slack is wound onto the winch drum. (Stand approximately 8 ft. away from the winch) 7. With gloves on, hold tension on the winch rope with one hand; carefully push the winch rope to the side of the drum the winch rope is attached to so there are no gaps between each coil on the drum. 8. Be sure to check that the winch rope is winding off of the bottom of the drum or the automatic load holding brake will not function properly. The following steps should be done using two people for proper safety. If you attempt to tension your winch rope alone, be sure to always set the parking brake, place the transmission in gear or park and turn the vehicle off every time you exit the vehicle to inspect the winch rope. The driver of the vehicle should operate the winch. Instruct your assistant to stand to the side of the vehicle and away from the winch rope. 9. Start the vehicle if switched off and place the transmission in neutral. Then release the parking brake while applying moderate brake pedal pressure. 10. Power-in the winch rope to start winching in. After winching in for approximately 6 ft. (2m), stop winching. Slowly let up off of the brake pedal and then apply the parking brake. This will ensure that there is no load on the winch rope. 11. Exit the vehicle and inspect the winch to make sure that the winch rope is being evenly wound onto the winch drum and not sinking into the lower layer. If the winch rope is sinking, power out the winch rope by pushing the power-out button on the remote control and repeat this step from the beginning with more brake pedal pressure. 12. When you are convinced the winch rope is winding onto the winch drum properly, repeat steps until the vehicle is within 6 ft. of the winch anchor. Once within 6 ft., slowly let up off of the brake pedal and then apply the parking brake. This will ensure that there is no load on the winch rope. Then place the transmission in park and turn the vehicle off. 13. Exit the vehicle. Disconnect the hook from the anchor. While holding onto the hook strap, hold tension on the winch rope and slowly power-in the winch by “pulsing” the power-in button on your remote control until the hook is within 3 ft. of the fairlead. 14. Stop winching in and attach the hook to a suitable anchor point on the vehicle. Once the hook is suitably attached to the vehicle, power-in the remaining slack in the winch rope by “pulsing” the power-in button on your remote control until there is minimal slack in the winch rope. Source: Warn Industries PS: A sabkha or the end point of a drive is an ideal place to do the spooling process. A suitable anchor point is another vehicle with the driver inside holding the brake, as we might not find any trees and such. When I did it for the first time the anchor car was in the desert, on a slightly inclined (up) position from my car. The slight incline and the desert sand gave it an effective anchor point strength and while I winched, I did not apply break, as the incline had the same effect.

  25. Congratulations @Hisham Masaad for reaching the Marshal level with Carnity Offroad Club. Hisham joined Carnity in late 2020 with his FJ Cruiser and loads of passion and excitement to conquer sand dunes. With a very humble beginning and a great helpful attitude towards all off-roaders and carnity management, he has quickly positioned himself as an integral part of the carnity family. With time, patience and skills he has taken on new challenges and tasted the maximum adrenaline offered at a higher level and pace of drives. His extreme passion for sand driving, leading and supporting off-road drives made him rise through the ranks to become a vital part of Carnity off-road club. His contribution and intelligent support behind the drives, planning and great teamwork were always been highly appreciated. MARSHAL is one of the most prestigious and sought-after titles that comes after a lot of hard work, patience, tolerance, and dedication. Just like all the levels in Carnity offroad club is "NOT" only based on driving skills but instead based on the combination of your personality + intelligence + team spirit + adventure. This Marshal title is an epitome for all levels in the offroad grading structure. So if anyone wants to grow, they can set any of Carnity Offroad Club Marshal as a PERFECT example for not only following the driving skills and style but also observing their behavior, teamwork, presence of mind, calculative approach, patience and tolerance to teach and support new offroaders.

  39. Thank you friends for joining the drive. Being my first lead of NB drive, was really good experience. Most were at the meeting point a head of time. Briefing done, and believe all was really keeping attention to points for a safe drive. Started moving, till we reached the pink rock, and was really amazing to see all made to the top in a short time. After that started moving again aiming to reach the big red. I can say we didn’t have any issue climbing the dunes, well done everybody. While moving to the big red, we started having some refusals, stucks and one crest. Good learning and experience for all. Thank you very much @Brette for your support, and guidance to have this drive successful. Thank you @munkybizness @Simon Dawood for your support. @brettaevans hope your bumper will be modified soon to hit the dunes again. @Sayed Bilal I think you need to practice and know your car more, to enjoy the desert more. Vtec for sure can do much more, it will come by time. @Nathan L glad to meet you for the first time, amazing job, well done @premindra rajaram glad to meet you for the first time, you have a very good car, only as mentioned to you, you need to push your heart to allow to push more on the gas to go over soft churned areas and side slopes. Well done @Benjamin didn’t hear your name through out the drive, means good job @Ajit John good to meet you. you are driving a very nice capable car, more drives and experience will help making more use of it, well done @Paul Zietsman nice to meet you, again well done. One crest with your monster is nothing @Rajat Verma nice to meet you, you made it perfectly. Hope to see you in higher levels soon Old friends and unofficial support team @Vaibhav and @Mohamad Anwer, thank you very much for your support. Thank you all again, and look forward to see you again in sand. Nice week ahead Take care
