  2. Dear Desert Drivers, Next weekend is a bit special as we have the annual migration for the Liwa Crossing, that is mobilizing a lot of Leads and Support. This is the reason why we have less drives..... and a huge waiting list. Still I will try to accommodate as many drivers as I can, counting on the Support and experienced drivers who will also join. I will confirm the final convoy list in the early afternoon tomorrow (Friday). If we have a longer convoy, I might tune down a bit the level of the drive, and will ask you to strictly adhere to the convoy discipline to be sure that we keep moving, and to preserve maximum enjoyment. In the meantime, kindly consider your schedule, and remove your name from the attendance in case you have changed your plans. I would really like to avoid last minute drop outs that would prevent another driver to attend. Stay tuned for the next update tomorrow !

  4. Wonderful advices from all and very informative and will act as a guide. I would add that join some drives and see what others are doing with their cars. You will eventually get all your answers. each of us have our own way of doing things that suit us best, and you can pick and choose what you want to do with yours.

  5. @Ahmad Quadri Welcome to the Family community:) Great decision to ask here as I ended up buying stuff which I never used/needed/required. And recently I installed an onboard conpressor, so I have my old compressor, please take mine, use it few times, and if you decide to continue ( which am pretty sure you will, then invest in a compressor) . I stay in JLT and ping me if you wannt to pick this from me, dint wanted to sell it, and instead pass it to fellow member. 0566838510

  6. Dear Friends @Imteeaz @Daniel Rodas @Gerrit Bus and @Beide Worku Thanks for your Interest and RSVPing the drive. Since I started leading all my drives had never ended without driving for a while in technical terrain as I always believe that mastering this path along what it brings with it will make us a better off roaders . However in this drive it will be devoted let’s say 80 % of it driving along the tightest routes what Alqudra desert has to offer leaving the remaining for the way back to exit . The radio channel and convoy order will be announced on site at meeting point . please be on time in order to finish on time at sunset expected . see you tomorrow inshallah Seidam

  8. Always keep a spare pressure gauge (keep an analog one if you have digital, and vice versa). If your car has a good in-built Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which monitors each individual tire, you just need one additional failsafe on hand. With convoys like ours, there's always going to be a second person who can lend you one, but it never hurts to be self-prepared. Of all the things that have failed the most with me, gauges are definitely up there. Another often forgotten item - especially if you manually remove the valve stem to deflate - is to keep some spares. They are very cheap and easily available. But lose one while deflating, and if you don't have one on hand, you will need to swap in a spare tire (or steal its stem). These things are tiny and when you deflate, they get ejected with such pressure that they'll fly out so far that you'll never find them. This is what one looks like.

  9. Sand does nothing to jeeps... i don't even have an air dam, which was there only for aerodynamics.

  10. The only issue you will ever face with stock suspension in my opinion is while ridge riding, car will rub the sand on the top of the ridge. In the initial days you will have a few refusals, but as you master it, you will not face any issues nor feel the requirement to upgrade.
    3 points
  11. @Looper I agree, when I get there, I will probably ponder over the subject again. But I have a long way to go before I find myself making that decision, thanks for the info. Maybe for the long wheelbase it's best to just stay stock for as long as possible, as for in the sand I'm not finding any issues yet with how the car handles and most days I'm surprised just what the Jeep is capable of I'm sure everyone in the jeep community agrees as well. πŸ™ƒ
    3 points
  12. My suggestion would be for you to reach till Intermediate Level before you ponder over the subject once again. Guys with long wheelbase Jeeps; when they reach intermediate level - they fall to "not to lift" side of the decision ridge and the short wheelbase guys tend to go for the "lift" side due to its departure angle. At Intermediate level I took the plunge and lifted my Jeep, and it is the most appropriate time for you to decide, as you are well versed in the capabilities of the car as well as suiting your aptitude & driving style.

  15. Thanyou Very much for this Exciting news. Let me introduce myself - My name is Naveed (Ahmad is my middle name) - Driving has always been a passion since early ages , have driven mostly on tarmac and snow but never really in sand so this is really exciting for me. My car is a Land Rover LR2 2012 model.

  17. * Frontal airbag can be left on. After all it will protect you in case of a nose-dive. * Curtain airbags (if your car has them) should be disabled, as these are usually connected to a yaw sensor and might react when the car is tilted too much * ABS should be disabled. Check in the vehicle manual which fuse you can pull. For your first drive this is not a big issue but later it will definitely be needed. * Traction control should be OFF. This is usually a button with the logo of a sliding car on your dashboard. Pushing it will disable it and it will light up as an orange icon on your dash to notify you that it has been disabled.

  18. @BenjaminI have a 2022 Jeep Rubicon and I got a 2.5 inch lift, BP51 suspension and 35 inch tyres. I also had it regeared and tuned. Before the mods, I had done a few drives in the stock setup and honestly speaking the car was superb. For me however, the fun of buying a Jeep is all the customization you can do to it. It looks so much better and obviously drives better on sand. Are the mods necessary? Definitely not. Is the car more fun after the mods? Hell yeah!

  19. @Vaibhav Thanks for the advice I will look into the axle reinforcement for sure, on revaluation I'm not going to go for the lift kit as all these added costs come out far more expensive to what I expected. However, your point on reinforcement is what I'm looking for, as getting refusals are all part of the fun personally, I learn from them. My only concern is damage to the car so reinforcement is definitely what I'm looking for
    2 points
  20. Hi @Benjamin this is a touchy subject especially for Jeepers. I personally feel that there is no need of a lift or not even a skid plate. But it is of benefit to have a firmer suspension which will allow you to negotiate bumpier terrains. For me I tried to change shocks from stock one without a lift but as i understand most of the shocks available for wrangler can only be installed with a lift kit. but if you are doing a lift then tires will have to be changed as well, so it's never ending. For the time being, I have decided not to do anything and keep it as stock.

  21. The numbers of drives you are waitlisted for. For example if you do not have a confirmed drive yet, it will show "1". If you are already RSVP'd on another drive, there will be a "2" showing. That numbering also provides priority to members who are on their first drive, so whenever spots become available, the system will automatically start adding members from the waitlist with "1" behind their name, and only when that list is exhausted, members with "2" will be added. Hope this is clear

  26. @Dorian Zissi @Ahmad Quadri@sohinikπŸ˜‰ this is your first club drive according to our data, so kindly introduce yourself and provide us the following info: 1. Which 4x4 are you bringing ? 2. Any prior offroading experience ? 3. Is the 4x4 equipped with front and rear towpoints ? We have a very nice Absolute Newbie briefing video that brings you up to speed immediately on what you can expect and prepare for: Please bring a pressure gauge, deflator, and air compressor as minimum. We can lend you a radio for your first drive. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  27. Hi Ale, I did an absolute Newbie drive with Gurav late last year, but other than that, I have very little experience. Following the absolute Newbie drive, I bought all of the required equipment. My wife, Franky, has much more experience and she will be a passenger in the car. I will watch all of the linked videos and the other link that you sent through. Thank you for your advice. George

  29. Dear @Misha Puskar, as I've noticed this would be your first drive with Carnity, I'd like to ask if you have any previous experience in desert driving in particular, or off-roading in general. Also, kindly make sure your car is equipped with sturdy tow point or eyelets, and that you are carrying a flag (a radio is also recommended). In preparation for Saturday's outing, please make sure to watch the 5 videos linked at the top of the drive's post. Let me know of any questions you may have regarding the drive and/or your car, etc. I'll be giving a technical briefing prior to our departure on Saturday, so that everyone in the convoy will be up to speed with the necessary skills and safety procedure that will ensure a successful drive. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  31. Yeah true. And I do get the rubbing now. But I do have a Skid plate on the front, so don't see much of an issue for the future of off-roading, my main concern was damage to the undercarriage, but taking care will help with that, I think all will be great everyone's advice is truly appreciated you guys have saved me a lot of money that I've been saving πŸ˜‚

  34. @Anoop Nair I totally agree with you, in the future any other modifications I want to implement are to just reinforce the Jeep without any difference in height, I believe I could look into just installing falcon shocks to enhance my ability to navigate such terrain. Thank you for the great insight. The Jeep support really helps guys cheers!

  35. @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler in that case I will stick with the safe option and keep the stock suspension until it runs into problems which hopefully it won't anytime soon πŸ˜„ I love how the jeep drives as it is, as I have mentioned before the only 'mods' I have done with my jeep is the front skid plate because the original one was plastic 😁 and I changed to a metal rear bumper because the original owner damaged the brackets on it somehow 😁 Thank you guys for the advice I appreciate it @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler @Frederic @Zixuan Huang - Charlie

  36. Fully agree with @Frederic - I did go through same thoughts what @Benjamin is going through now, but thanks to conversations with few experienced folks, I remained with Stock, and I dont think I missed out on anything so far....might think of lift up if i end up doing off-roading in mountains to cross boulders , Untill then, I continue to book holidays with family
    1 point
  37. @Frederic thanks for the insight and I totally agree! if I do make the decision I definitely want the benefit of keeping the same center of gravity so I understand that this kit would lead to other modifications to better increase the stance of the jeep. I mostly want to optimize the jeep for off-road but for the moment OEM parts have been holding out quite well this has definitely influenced my decision in the end. Cheers!

  40. @Ahmad Shaker @Bjoern @Morshedi @Stav @Pascal @Richard Franks @premindra rajaram @Mohamad Anwer @Benjamin @Tharun Kumar V @Hisham Masaad @Srikumar @Varun Mehndiratta Good Morning everyone I hope you are all as excited as I am for this weekends Liwa Crossing. Please remember to go over the rules and drive preparation again so your vehicle and you are fully prepared for the drive. I would be devastated to sent someone back home on the meeting point .... It is highly recommended to drive alone, as it's a very serious and demanding drive to stay focused at all times. Maximum of one passenger allowed - No exceptions and trip lead will send you back. Make sure that passenger has no fear of heights, motion sickness and have been to full-day off-road drives before. As once we enter the desert, the only way out is from the other side, without any early exits for 100-150 kms. Everything in your car should be strapped and secured - All vehicles will be checked by the trip lead. Drive Preparation: Your car should be in 100% pristine working condition, so double or triple check everything. Full-size spare tire with a lug wrench to match your wheel nut size and its depth. For aftermarket rims - Your lug wrench also needs to match the wheel nut depth. As it's a long full-day drive, so catch up with enough sleep in advance. 5-10 liter of water per person. Snacks for breakfast, lunch, dinner and next day breakfast. Keep your car as light as possible by packing what is truly essential. Fully charged radio with spare battery and all other required off-road gears. Gas tank and required number of jerry cans should be full upon arrival. Last petrol station is ADNOC Khanoor (832): https://goo.gl/maps/FSUzbzURjQRGvFVN9 I would also recommend to everyone to bring 1 bag of wood each for the Saturday night camping, that way the wood is divided over more than one car and we will be definitely have enough wood to make a big camp fire to keep us warm. For people camping on the Friday evening, make sure you are as close as possible to the meeting point and you have refueled your car because you might not have time anymore in the morning. I want everyone to be at the meeting point at 7 am sharp, if you are late, I might leave you behind ! SEE YOU ALL IN LIWA !!!

  41. This was an exceptionally nice drive and great introduction to the fewbie level for me. These are my key takeaways: β€’ It was disappointing to see the amount of rubbish and debris other visitors had left in the desert, not only is this bad for the natural environment but I suspect will eventually be negative for all users of this natural habitat. β€’ Super Bowl was good fun, wish I had another attempt, but I want to commend @GauravSoni for making the right decision at the right time, safety is always a number one priority and as that area was becoming congested and unmanaged getting out of there before an incident was a good decision. β€’ The post bowl technical dune section of the drive was beautiful, it felt like the convoy found a rhythm with the vehicle gap and momentum that we flowed across the dunes. The level of throttle required here was interesting to feel, small adjustments was all that was required to keep momentum, for most of this section I went to manual mode and 2nd gear, as in D the Gladiator tends to stay screaming in 1st. β€’ Ghost Village, glad I finally got to see this place, unfortunately didn’t get to meet any spirits Thanks to all for the fun drive.

  43. Hi @Ahmad Quadri Welcome to the club! To be honest, as your very first Newbie drive, people in the club will be very accomodating. That air compressor you posted won't really be up to the task of inflating all your tires from sand pressures. Just check with someone is okay sharing their air compressor, and if you have a lot of fun and want to do it again, look to get a 'real' compressor. The problem with the one you linked is, unfortunately, it will overheat quickly, and cut out, and the inflating will be slow. Painfully slow. Great for emergency tire changing, not so great for offroad useage. But you also don't want to spend several hundred AED on a decent one until you've even given the hobby a real try πŸ˜ƒ The flags... many of us have mounting brackets we can buy for our specific vehicle make and models, you can probably just google for your own vehicle. Or get a custum bracket made to fit from a local fabricator. Both are very popular. Another option is suction cups that will suction to your rear windows... this is quite non-intrusive, and maybe a direction you take for your first run. (amazon search: 'desert flag' for a flag and mount). For an absolute first time experience... I would say the non-negotiable items would be a radio, recovery points, and flag. The club can help support in other gear, just check first with the marshall and club members on the drive you sign up for. After that first dip in the pool, if you're excited and keen for more, build up the recommended club gear, but with gear that will do the job (ie, a decent air compressor). Hope this helps!

  44. Dear @Ali Abbas How have you been ? It has been been a very long time .almost more than a year and a half or more since you drove with carnity regardless of the level and as a matter or Intermediate level And as from your profile you did the only one IM drive in April 2021. for your own safety I highly recommend you not to join such level and instead join a lower in difficulty level like Newbie or maximum fewbie level couple of times till you become synchronised back with your vehicle to the sand driving . There is no place I am afraid to take any high risk please . Please I am afraid to ask you to remove your self from this drive . I hope you can understand. Thank you πŸ™

  45. During offroading, the aim of an offroad safety flag is to improve visibility in the dunes, so that other members, or even another convoy can spot you from far away. This is an essential safety item that every offroader should have. We like to define a "proper" offroad flag below: Minimum height: 7-10ft (2-3m) above your car height (roof). Should be mounted vertically, preferably on roof or on side window. Should be sturdy and fixed properly to be visible through out the drive. Allowed Flag Types: Any solid color flag Any country flag Sports team flag Social cause flag YOUR FLAG SHOULD NOT RIDICULE OR MISUSE OUR OFF-ROAD CLUB Not Allowed Flag Types Torn cloth, towel, safety jacket, plastic bags are strictly not allowed. Political or religious affiliations flag. Any other off-road club flag. Any brand promotion flag. Offensive text or logo.
